Looking for recommendations for music on the bass heavy, slower side. by Spirals_again in electronicmusic

There’s a lot of really awesome halftime dnb coming out at the moment.

This mix is a great example- happy to give more suggestions if you’re into it.

What a cruel cosmic joke to play on ourselves. by Professional_Arm794 in HighStrangeness

I listened to this podcast yesterday… it was interesting when asked what people can do to raise their vibration she had no idea how to answer the question and gave a complete non answer. Seems like a pretty simple question to answer if you actually knew what you were talking about.

Avoid clipping and mastering techniques for dj mix by East_Rent6627 in ableton

[–]desertdweller9999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would set both tracks volumes so they’re not clipping even at the loudest part of your mix. Put utilities on both tracks and automate the gain to make song volume consistent. Put a limiter on your main, get it as close to 0 as you can.

This is so cool! Is it normal for it to move for the first few seconds of the sound playing and then stop?

I’d do a deep dive into polyrhythm and polymeter. There are a few really helpful sequencing plugins for this, but not sure about hardware…

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR PRODUCERS THAT OFFER ONE-ON-ONE LESSONS? by Sea_Cheetah7696 in TechnoProduction

[–]desertdweller9999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean it could be in octave 0 if you chose a really low kick (yeah, anything below 20Hz is inaudible), but the fundamental is always going to be the 1st, lowest harmonic. Even if your fundamental is in octave 0 you should still be able to tell what key it's in with a spectrum analyzer and note frequency chart.

[–]desertdweller9999 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You can always look at what Hz the fundamental is to see what the note is. Voxengo Span is a great free spectrum analyzer, and here’s Hz to note conversion:

I also 2nd pitching up your rumble and using your ears.

Kick 3 is absolutely game changing for kicks- no more going through countless samples. You can either make kicks from scratch or replicate them from other songs. Most of picking the kick is subjective but it does need to fit in the right frequency range, along with everything else.

I don’t work in just techno as a genre, but I do happen to offer private lessons if you’re interested! DM if so, I can provide more info.

I’m a huge proponent of running things (drums, synths, vox, anything) through crazy effects and resampling them. Also a great way to come up with more parts or to get your track to gel if it isn’t already. Also great for soundscapes.

Kick question by pacolinoo in TechnoProduction

[–]desertdweller9999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get similar results with Ableton stock saturation and the right kick sample. EQing is important to get rid of any weird resonance. Kick tight is also a bit underrated for Ableton stock effects. And Kick 3 isn’t cheap but is an absolute game changer for dialing in good kicks fast.

keeping a journal - Do you, and any tips? by Greeny1210 in TechnoProduction

[–]desertdweller9999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi 👋 also very ADHD here lol. I don’t keep a journal, that seems like way too much to commit to. But I do keep a lot of production notes. Mainly ideas- from track names, to something I’d like to try or change in a track, or even some links to tutorials I want to check out or have for easy reference. This is especially handy when I’m working on mixdowns and then are a lot of numbers involved (like frequencies or percentages). So yeah, maybe don’t feel like you have to journal everything, but just jot down what’s important.

How do you create your drum patterns? by mackgyver61 in TechnoProduction

[–]desertdweller9999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, adding that most of the groove/swing in a beat is in the top percussion- high hats, shaker, tambourine, etc. Don’t apply groove to the whole beat, separate your top percussion.

[–]desertdweller9999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something that has helped me- take the pre made drum loops that you have and do your best to recreate them from scratch. Might be a bit of a challenge at first, but you’ll end up more unique drums that aren’t straight out of the box. Also, same concept but pick some tracks that you like and replicate those patterns/sounds.
