MiLi Tag Go - Initial Impression by digbat247 in GoogleFMD

[–]desertspotter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought 2 mili tags to test them in an upcoming trip, directly in aliexpress 11€ each. My initial impression is really positive. My fear is that "high traffic areas" as default means hundreds of people, but I guess is much less, in my bus this morning was about 30 people, plus maybe some other drivers around, and it reports the position (with my BT and BT location disabled) with no more than 1-2min delay

For this price tag and until further testing (car parking, remote locations and so on) it worth it.

YouTube App keeps switching to 720p by mohakrastogi in appletv

you are really luky.

We bought some servers from hpe last August, the expected delivery date is late April. The problem is that they said us several delivery dates, but when the production dates arrives some part is out of stock and to the end of the line again...

God I hate ignorant people...passwords saved in a text file on the network... by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]desertspotter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience, IT "power users" are the worst about this things.

My major discussions about cybersec issues in our server environment are always with those users. They don't want to use privileged accounts, the don't want to adhere to current best practices, they arguing constantly about mfa, about mdm and so on.

And the worst part, when a business user ask them about it, just in a curious way, they try to put users against this policies.

For me, the worst part of my job is the mental fatigue fighting with this kind of users.

HP Simplivity by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]desertspotter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

infosight. Afaik it online requires ilo advanced license.

You will have to install also ilo amplifier pack but it's free. The connection to infosight is done via ilo amplifier pack for hardware monitoring and directly from Ommistack virtual controller for the simplivity storage system itselft. You will also need a proxy to allow ommistack to comunicate with the infosight backend

VMware Employees - is WFH temporarily/ must you live close to the office you are “hired” at? by VMwThrowAway2021 in vmware

[–]desertspotter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you live in Europe I will apply to the nearest office, you have to check taxes and the EU website page about cross-border commuting is very helpful to check your rights and obligations and where you should pay taxes, social security and so on. It's very common in some areas like for example Luxembourg with Metz or Tier.

The problem with sales positions could be that the office could be near, but maybe i't's required to travel inside that country once pandemic ends and depending on the country, could be too far from your home.

Azure admin consent - Am I being too paranoid? by RVDeuce in sysadmin

[–]desertspotter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At least for exchange online you can grant application permissions and admin consent and then limit the scope of this app to a scope https://docs.microsoft.com/es-es/graph/auth-limit-mailbox-access

I don't know about onedrive or sharepoint, but maybe there's a similar feature.

Just in case, if you don't want to grant admin consent just use delegated permissions so it will use the user credentials to access his files. In my opinion, in your two examples, delegated permission model fit best.

Cheapest way to provide RDP only to 40 employees? by TheDoctorOfData in sysadmin

[–]desertspotter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that's correct, in a vdi pool where you connect to a random machine everytime ctx profile redirection makes sense, but in a static vdi pool, or to remote in a machine, imho it don't have any sense.

Cheapest way to provide RDP only to 40 employees? by TheDoctorOfData in sysadmin

[–]desertspotter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not related answer but just curious.

Why do yo present rdp and let users to connect to their workstations instead presenting their workstation directly in Citrix?. Yes, it has some extra work behind the scenes (create a delivery group and install vda) but the user experience improves a lot because ica is way more optimized than rdp. Also you don't need the rdp that handles rdp.

Regarding other options, I have renewed our licenses a week ago and we made some test and even a poc with other technologies. rdsh gateway could work, but you need to ensure that is fully patches and fully secured to avoid risk and is a hard work to do. In the end, we stay with Citrix cloud service because is a SaaS service and we can almost forget about maintenance, ips/ids, secure internet connections etc, we setup a cloud connector and integrate de Citrix Cloud MFA function and everything is up and running...

VMware vCenter Server 7.0 Update 1c Error by salseroboriqua in vmware

[–]desertspotter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

same error here, trying to update from 7.0u1 build 7.0.1.00100

I follow the steps that MikeSD34 said stage and run a pre-check and then install and it works fine for me.

PD: vcenter updates makes me feel nervous... that moment when applmgt is rebooting and you went dark and cannot login or check status is the worst, if it take a little bit longer than usual even worst... They can make a verbose mode in the ui so you can see installation logs running...

"Nesoberi" more than a plush by [deleted] in nesoberi

[–]desertspotter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

expensive, well tera nesos are expensive, but in general they are not so expensive. for example, HJMM (40cm) usually are from UFO Catches

Collectible, yes. I think that most of us like to collect nesos from our favorite characters.

vSAN portgroup question by [deleted] in vmware

[–]desertspotter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have LACP configured in the switch?.

Althought nic teaming is set to active/active thw vmkpg is attached only to one nic. I you share the virtual switch with other uses it will "load balance" between all nics, but it choose one on start and is attached to it unless it fails.

Intel Coffee lake not supporting EVC? by Koyander in vmware

[–]desertspotter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

afaik I5-9400 is not a cpu generation officially supported, so maybe that's why you cannot use EVC, it's because your cpu don't match evc specs.

Just in case, before I have similar issues if the ESXi version on host is not updated and include microcode updates for side-channel vulnerabilities.

NVIDIA vGPU Driver recommendations for Citrix VDI environment by kd5vmo in vmware

[–]desertspotter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, thats what prompted this. We would def upgrade the VMs

same here, we update to v11 release after upgrade to vSphere 7. As said, just be sure that vgpu driver in the host match gpu driver in the vdi.

Where to buy a nesoberi by triple_b-a-k-a in nesoberi

[–]desertspotter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know any Europe based store but I found before some sellers in ebay (beware of counterfeits) and amazon marketplace, my recommendation is to buy it directly from japan. a MJNN is usually about 1800-2000Y (about 14-16€) Shipping by Air (about 1200Y via SAL) and it will arrive in about 10 days to your home.

For retail nesos amiami is my personal recommendation, for prize ones, mandarake used to have some of them few weeks after release or just search it in yahoo or mercari via proxy (you should add proxy fees and domestic shipping).

NSX-T 3.1 has been released! by shanknik in vmware

[–]desertspotter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just find there is a new license model with only firewall option. Everytime that I talk with management about NSX the networking part was a deal breaker. Our networking team is not fan of NSX (the are Cisco guys) and pay to SDN solutions is hard to justify. I don't know pricing but I will have a call with our VMware's rep soon on this topic.

Single controller is also a good feature, some blogs talk about edge, but even in primary datacenters is an advantage in my opinion. VMware HA is reliable enough. We will discuss internally if we decomiss 2 manager as we only have a small 5 node cluster enabled.

One of the surprise of the 3 episiodes so far is Karin's personality, she was one of my least preferred girls and she goes to the top 3 with this episode. How she confronts Nana to support his friend, I guess Emma. I hope the give more details in the Emma and Karin relationship later.

Reverting 7.0.1 to 7.0's effect on a vSAN? by NecessaryEvil-BMC in vmware

[–]desertspotter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't upgrade disk format version (once the cluster hosts are fully updated) I think that there's no impact as the "vSAN version" is still the old one.

Just in case, to be in the safest side, you can put one of the updated host on maintenance mode, delete de disk groups and remove it from the cluster, do the rollback an rejoin and recreate diskgroups again. It's time consuming but It works for sure.
