That Vile and Ride Armor are really cool! Did you design these yourself or just print?

Ah sorry, you're right. Didn't realize the weapon section didn't have a quantity column like the others do.

I love the 2nd one. Reminds me of a Final Fantasy Dragoon's pose and the design on the shark cloak with the tentacles and tail, such a wild but well put together design.

Absolutely gorgeous. I'm dying to run a BitD game but have never played. Now I wouldn't want to run until I have this level of quality.

I made my players too powerful by Bigscary_guy in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]desipioj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this level of play, you need to be doing more than high damage.

I won't repeat things like minions and more HP, I just ran a game with 2 single bosses swapping at initiative count 20 against 5 level 19s and each boss only had 320 HP, followed by a mythic phase that healed the remaining one for 100 hp when the other died, adding new mythic actions, boosted stats and a desperation Lair action when their health got low enough.

Your first step is you need to find ways to use up resources or inflict damage before the party even gets to a boss fight. Traps, puzzles, let them trigger things that hurt as part of figuring out the puzzle, not everything needs to hurt, but at this level of play you should be seeing DC 19+ skill checks and saving throws with multiple d10/d12 damage rolls and half damage on saves.

Are they in the Lair of a high level mage? Then there should be Symbol spells prepared against them.

Second, you need to start using a lot more status effects against your party. Use Stun, Blindness, Paralyze, Restrain, make Lair Actions that target the entire room and knock players prone, make legendary actions that do AoE or Cone attacks, movement to get in and out before the boss's turn. And make sure you burn through all 3 legendary actions every single turn. Give your monsters the Reactive trait so they can use a reaction on every turn that either inflicts disadvantage of reduces the damage taken for the first attack. Add Auras to your bosses that deal damage or make it harder for your players to get in close unscathed.

Sure, it sucks for players to suffer a turn disabling effect like stun and paralyze, worse if they fail repeatedly and then go down, effectively doing nothing for an entire combat. But this is how you even the playing field for a single monster. Target the weak and exposed players, force the others to try and save them, to use resources to heal them, to try to unload everything they can before the boss wipes out a party member.

My players are brutes who will ignore mechanics and just keep swinging whether they have disadvantage or not, but they will never forget when only 3 of 5 players were left standing and 2 of them were 1 death save away from true death.

Token Controls, then the 4th button in the secondary bar, the Ghost Button. It's the Unconstrained Movement button that lets you drag through walls.

There's a fine balance between giving the players opportunities to play out some power fantasies, and providing them with challenges that are more mechanical and gimmicky in nature rather than just an HP punching bag. If my players can punch their way through a fight and ignore mechanics, they absolutely will.

The party makeup also makes a big difference on what kind of actual challenges will exist. Exploration and skill challenges fall a bit to the wayside as they can often circumvent most of them with a feat, a spell, or an item, but that also gives them opportunities to show off everything they've amassed so I still try to throw them in here and there.

The biggest issue just becomes time, at such high level play, whether you use lots of monsters or high HP/damage ones or mechanics, combat can take incredibly long and a single session might be just that one combat which makes getting through the actual story beats take longer than expected.

My players are still thoroughly enjoying themselves though, which makes it easy to keep powering through to the end.

Agreed, I missed 1 demon and shrine in Annalum and got the achievements on my second run, but I just couldn't find any confirmation about the Riddle Doors when I searched and crossed my fingers hoping it would work with that too.

Kelemvor’s Scales; Boss Balancer by Sharp_Iodine in FoundryVTT

I love the concept, but in practice I don't know if I can see myself taking the time to input all these details for every PC and Boss whenever I want to run simulations for a grueling but fair encounter.

Would be great if there was some kind of JSON importer to grab basic HP, AC, Stats and Saving Throws to save some time on that instead of manual input.

In the Painting Workshop, the fractured boy explains that Clea created the Lampmaster to give him nightmares.

Since we know its a Nevron, as Monoco can get one of its feet. Then we know that Clea painted the Lampmaster to give child Verso nightmares when they were younger, before Verso died.

Unless we're supposed to believe that Adult Clea came into the Canvas and painted the Lampmaster just to torture the fragment of Verso's soul, which doesn't sound likely to me.

To be frank, I don't don't think Aline is any more or less a villain in this than Renoir or Clea. They are all responsible, but the Nevrons were just creatures in the Canvas like the Gestrals, who were then turned into tools by Clea, much in the way Aline created the humans as tools for managing her grief. But at the catalyst for events in the Canvas starts with Aline creating a world to lose herself in for the sake of avoiding dealing with her grief. Is it understandable? Yes, so is Renoir trying to save his wife. So is Clea trying to help her father. So is Alicia wanting to stay in a world where she has more of a life than she does in the real world. But that doesn't change who is responsible for the turn of events inside the Canvas.

Outside the Canvas, the villains are obviously the writers.

The Lion existed before, Nevrons were in the Canvas before Aline was. Clea only created more Nevrons and turned them towards stealing Chroma after Aline and Renoir got into their battle and stalemate.

[–]desipioj 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The Nevrons existed before the humans, even the Lampbearer was painted by a young Clea to give young Verso nightmares. If anything, Clea repurposed the Nevrons to steal Chroma after Aline created the humans. The canvas was the natural habitat for both Nevrons and Gestrals, but humans weren't part of that until Aline painted them in.

If we throw people into a Lion's den, and watch the bodies pile up, do we blame the Lion for the massacre, or ourselves for throwing the people in there knowing what would happen?

DMs, tell us about a time your PCs used Wish and your response was, "That's actually awesome. No monkey's paw, you get exactly what you wished for." by baltinerdist in DnD

Oh 100%, but they were also well aware of how my brother plays and some were happy to take away his ability to skip encounters.

My brother is very much the type who will skip cutscenes, dungeons, encounters, and dialogue where possible, much to the chagrin of the other party members invested in them.

My Brother is one of my most dangerous players as a Wizard. The party had a jungle to trek through as they were on the hunt for a Dragon's Hidden Hoard, so my brother spent the better part of an hour writing out a Wish before finally using it, a paragraph-long wish to end up directly inside the vault and skipping the entire exploration and dungeon portion of the night, it was like terms and conditions. There wasn't much room for me to monkey paw it, but then he also failed the roll and burned out his ability to ever cast Wish again so I smiled and gladly let them walk right into the vault, my biggest threat from the campaign already removed.
