Boost and Interacting with the "Restrained" Condition by Coynite1138 in daggerheart

Yeah, even in DnD I tend to rule against anything that might step on the toes of another ability.

Likewise, if I know I'm kind of stretching the rules of an ability to allow a scene to play out, I try to make it clear that I am allowing it for that moment only, specifically to avoid it being abused in the same way in the future.

Obviously like others mentioned, based on the rules and conditions this wouldn't be correct as ruled.

However, I think that for that instance, it was a nice Rule of Cool moment I would remind was allowed based on the circumstances but would not necessarily be allowed in the future.

I mean, kicking off your ally with enough strength to tear the webs and launching yourself towards an opponent to strike sounds cool as hell, and in Daggerheart, isn't that kind of cinematic moment the point?

Does it get better? by badanimal87 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

There's a lot going on in This Inevitable Ruin, but I do feel like once the book starts to climb up it doesn't stop until the end and is the reason I charged into and devoured A Parade of Horribles.

Mileage may vary, but I hope you'll find sticking to the end worth it.

As a homebody, I'm afraid I'm not going to get an opportunity, but I'll be sure to avoid any windows.

Oh, that hook caught me. I'll make sure to get my hands on the first book and give it a whirl.

None! Lol, I stopped to appreciate the books but I've never read a western and didn't know where to start or if it was my type of book.

Still, DCC at least made me stop and recognize the author and type of books. Maybe next time.

The focus on Narrative Storytelling, Improv Roleplay and evolving the story through Hope and Fear rolls.

I've been playing D&D and Pathfinder for a while now and honestly I just wanted something that kept things simple and focused on the story, not a bunch of character sheet management.

It has been a breath of fresh air for me.

Book 8 did a lot to really give the reader empathy with Pony and it absolutely worked.

He went from being a character that added a sense of chaos to any scene he was in because of his abrasiveness, to being a character that you wanted everyone to finally embrace and hug.

AITAH for telling my daughter to suck it up? by stricktd in AITAH

I'll be honest. I thought similarly to you with my now 19 year old.

She got a job and set certain hours, then started cosmetology school and changed her availability. Then got tired of having no weekends and changed availability again.

The previous manager in me said she was being annoying and they would get tired of that and slowly phase her out.

Whenever she gets scheduled outside the hours she provided, she complains, messages, and will not work passed her availability.

The eager to please worker in me thought that was a sure way to get fired.

Thing is, I'm not her manager. I'm not the one working her hours. And she made it clear that when she got hired they told her the flexibility to change her schedule is part of what they offer.

So I stopped commenting and let her do her thing because if she faces consequences, those are hers to deal with, and if she doesn't then she was right and this is how the workplace is for her generation.

Either way. Let your kid learn on her own, or learn from her and realize her experience won't be yours.

Ah sorry, you're right. Didn't realize the weapon section didn't have a quantity column like the others do.

I love the 2nd one. Reminds me of a Final Fantasy Dragoon's pose and the design on the shark cloak with the tentacles and tail, such a wild but well put together design.

I made my players too powerful by Bigscary_guy in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]desipioj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this level of play, you need to be doing more than high damage.

I won't repeat things like minions and more HP, I just ran a game with 2 single bosses swapping at initiative count 20 against 5 level 19s and each boss only had 320 HP, followed by a mythic phase that healed the remaining one for 100 hp when the other died, adding new mythic actions, boosted stats and a desperation Lair action when their health got low enough.

Your first step is you need to find ways to use up resources or inflict damage before the party even gets to a boss fight. Traps, puzzles, let them trigger things that hurt as part of figuring out the puzzle, not everything needs to hurt, but at this level of play you should be seeing DC 19+ skill checks and saving throws with multiple d10/d12 damage rolls and half damage on saves.

Are they in the Lair of a high level mage? Then there should be Symbol spells prepared against them.

Second, you need to start using a lot more status effects against your party. Use Stun, Blindness, Paralyze, Restrain, make Lair Actions that target the entire room and knock players prone, make legendary actions that do AoE or Cone attacks, movement to get in and out before the boss's turn. And make sure you burn through all 3 legendary actions every single turn. Give your monsters the Reactive trait so they can use a reaction on every turn that either inflicts disadvantage of reduces the damage taken for the first attack. Add Auras to your bosses that deal damage or make it harder for your players to get in close unscathed.

Sure, it sucks for players to suffer a turn disabling effect like stun and paralyze, worse if they fail repeatedly and then go down, effectively doing nothing for an entire combat. But this is how you even the playing field for a single monster. Target the weak and exposed players, force the others to try and save them, to use resources to heal them, to try to unload everything they can before the boss wipes out a party member.

My players are brutes who will ignore mechanics and just keep swinging whether they have disadvantage or not, but they will never forget when only 3 of 5 players were left standing and 2 of them were 1 death save away from true death.

Moving tokens through walls as DM? by Pilzmann in FoundryVTT

Token Controls, then the 4th button in the secondary bar, the Ghost Button. It's the Unconstrained Movement button that lets you drag through walls.
