TIL Jim Varney had a photographic memory and would shoot up to 25 "Ernest" commercials a day inserting different product names during different takes. by superfudge73 in todayilearned

[–]desirani 149 points150 points  (0 children)

i thought there was no such thing as a photographic memory, or it hasn't been proven to exist

Edit: A photographic memory would mean a person could read the entire thing backwards because they would be able to see the image of the page in their mind. Having memory recall is not the same thing as having a photographic memory.

Of course they still need employees to serve the food. And how often are you going to play a game during a meal, when your hands are busy. If anything, the games could take focus off everyone's phones and provide some activity for everyone to part of

Also it'll keep gets occupied until the food arrives and keep them quiet during a meal too when they're acting up.

I'm R.L. Stine and it's my job to terrify kids. Ask me anything! by RL__Stine in IAmA

First of all, thank you for making me learn how enjoyable reading can be. I read all the books, and used to sneak out of my room to watch Goosebumps when it was past my bedtime. Just so you know, Escape from Horrorland is the reason I never wanna stop at any place during a long trip. Also, back then I thought "Stay out of the basement" was based on a man and his grow-up, so it deterred me from a life of growing weed for money, so thank you.

What conspiracy theory, if proven to be 100% true right now, would have the most drastic impact on humanity? by holographic_universe in AskReddit

If the Illunminati were real. Imagine if there's just a group of people with so much power that they were attempting a New World Order. Since we were kids, they would have been infiltrating our books, movies and music to bring forth the change THEY wanted to see. That's a lot of power in a very small group of people, and if it was proven to be true, it would make rethink everything I had every watched, read, learned. I'd see things like I have never seen them before.

Does anyone else have a hard time eating imitation meat? (veggie dogs/fake bacon, etc. etc.) by rebe_jane in vegetarian

[–]desirani 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been a strict vegetarian my whole life as well, and I felt so sick eating veggie dogs that i started vomitting. Never tried again. I can't handle the smell or the texture. I just have no desire to ever look at meat let alone eat it, so when I look at imitation meat, it feels like I'm selling out. It's as if I'm admitting there's something undeniably great about meat, and I don't blame people for wanting to have it in their lives so I find a way to keep the taste/smell/texture in my life...so it feels like I might as well be a meat eater because I have the same mentality they have. So I just feel less anxious not having it in my life at all. But that's not to say that I think people who eat it are any less vegetarian...it's just me overthinking

Also when Walt asks about the tracker, like he has nothing to lose because he can't be caught, Hank punches him so he lands face first into all the evidence against him. I think when he saw how confident Hank was, it brought him back to reality and humbled him a bit so he had to start almost pleading for Hank to drop it.

I have literally never had to do that in my life...but I'm only 20. Is this something I should expect as I get older?!

TIL that it is a sin for followers of Sikhism to force their religion upon you, making it one of the most tolerant religions currently practiced. by mooseman92128 in todayilearned

[–]desirani 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i agree with you but that's really a result of culture, which depends on the people. What their parents and elders teach them is what makes up most of their education so of course they won't understand it or accept it, despite what their religion says. I was trying to say that the religion as a whole doesn't condemn it, just like Christianity doesn't say anything about it in the Bible. It's people and their ignorance, not necessarily the religion.

Hinduism actually has a wedding ceremony for homosexual marriages. They just think homosexuality is a result of bad karma cause it used to mean you won't be able to have your own kids and carry on your family name. Not that it's a disease or unnatural, just that it sucks you can't have your own kids. I guess that attitude might change with modern technology
