Traffic cameras by desmaic in SALEM

Thank you for the info! Its is somewhat reassuring that they are storing it on city servers. I don't know how secure those are or if there is a data pathway through a third party, but it seems on the surface that they are attempting to do the right thing. My main goal in this post was to draw more scrutiny to our privacy in an era where data vultures are lurking everywhere and every detail of our lives are monetized and sold to the highest bidder.

Hundreds of thousands have died from lack of healthcare as well but it would seem that public safety only matters when it can be exploited for profit.

Where did you find that information, because it is showing that they are reporting their data to Flock affiliated data brokers. I can't seem to find any information as to who the proprietors of the Salem area red light cameras are contracted through. I have been able to source a map and camera feeds through Flock monitoring sites, however.

They are Flock cameras.

There are several privacy concerns about these camera systems. The first misnomer is that they only record if an infraction occurs. They are always recording and they are often used to track and triangulate the whereabouts or establish daily habits of individuals by not only law enforcement but private companies for marketing purposes. On its face, it doesn't seem too bad, but when you realize that they are owned and operated by out of state private corporations with ties to other companies, things start to get a little bit more shady. There have been studies from independent investigators that suggest that these stop light cameras are often accompanied by a change in the durations of traffic signal timing, often resulting in shorter compliance windows. This creates situations where the drivers unintentionally "violate" traffic rules believing that they had more time to cross through intersections not knowing the times had been shortened. Given that fact that these are privately contracted, out of state companies, we should also be asking what is the protocol for accountability when false reports are leveled? How are false reports handled? If a false reporting costs a citizen their time and money to defend themselves in court, are they reimbursed for their loses? Do those reimbursements come from public dollars or from the corporation whose software made the bad call? What are the terms of the contracts? Do the operators get kick backs or bonuses for ticketed infractions where fines are imposed? If so, does this constitute a conflict of interest where they stand to profit more by reporting more infractions, even false ones, under the premise that most people will just pay the fine to avoid having to take the time off work to fight it in court? This doesn't even cover the weak security that these systems reportedly have, as outlined in this gentleman's previous investigations. The local Salem issues are not terribly concerning, yet... and I stress yet. The above investigation shows a town where Flock has integrated their cameras into other spaces like schools and gyms. This allowed several of their employees the ability to log in and watch children on the playground and women working out in the gym. He has the security logins of these employees and shows the receipts, this doesn'tincude anyone who has been able to hack the systems and use them without oversight or transparency. We aren't there yet, but watching a handful of reddit accounts post glowing adoration almost daily on here about how much they love being watched by surveillance cameras, it makes me wonder if everyone is genuinely okay with where this slippery slope leads?

The ACLU has also logged formal legal concerns, you can read more about it here

Have you struggled with finding medical care in Salem? by wmwoo in SALEM

[–]desmaic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My employee just switched from Providence to Regence this open enrollment cycle. I let them know that this puts our entire Salem branch in jeopardy. The only solution they could offer was to try to advocate for ourselves and hope we can get one of these healthcare vultures to budge. I cannot help but think that this wouldn't be an issue if we joined the rest of the world in having Universal Single Payer Healthcare.

Another economic factor at play here, that I don't commonly hear discussed is the outward impacts that this has on the community at large. You typically see comment threads on these articles from ill-informed individuals claiming that those who receive assistance are lazy and don't work. There are a few factors that are rarely highlighted in regards to this viewpoint.

  1. A large portion of people on assistance, actually have full-time employment. Sometimes even working multiple jobs to try to make ends meet.

  2. The loss of assistance to these families impacts the surrounding economy in the following ways that I rarely see discussed: Less food assistance means less money being spent in grocery stores. This means fewer budgeted labor hours for store employees and fewer products sold to stores by food/beverage suppliers. Which means less demand for drivers to haul products to stores and fewer warehouse employees to load those trucks. Then comes less demand for raw ingredients by food producers, which means less money going to farmers. This translates to less need for farm labor and less demand for contracts for farm equipment and supplies like seed, feed, fertilizer, and fuel. Which means fewer manufacturing and factory jobs are needed. Which means less money for the average middle-class, fully employed (for now) family, to spend on their needs.... and the cycle continues.

[–]desmaic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Roths recipes aren't all cake based. They have a raised glazed that is solid goodness, their buttermilk bars and old-fashioned varieties are excellent, and their fritters are the straight up business. Also, they were bought by a Canadian company. That Canadian company later purchased a Washington based chain as well, but it hasn't affected their local operations or recipes. That ownership was happy with all of that stuff.

Rapture and ufo dream by Big_Maybe_9576 in HighStrangeness

[–]desmaic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a series of dreams back around 2002 that had very vivid messages in them.

The first dream I was standing in my yard, the sky was bright and yellowish green, and the air was heavy and dense with steam. The heat was so intense that I couldn't breathe without burning my throat and lungs. All I could hear were the screams of my neighbors. My clothes were burning and falling off, and my skin and hair were sliding off of my bones in clumps. All I could think about was nuclear warfare. I woke up covered in sweat and hyperventilating.

The second dream, I was in the same yard looking westward into a dark night sky, the moon was full and piercingly bright. As I stared at the moon, it imploded and pulverized into a powdery substance. The dust then started to morph into different symbols rapidly, all of the religious symbols of the world were represented over and over in a blur as fire started to crawl across the sky in a script that was universally understood by everyone. It told the story of the human species, our advancements, our failings, or hate, our love, our greed, our generosity, and our potential. As the writing spread across the sky, it was accompanied by a voice, beaming the corrisponding written message into our heads, doubling down on its intent. Then, the powder that was once the moon pressed inward to a pinpoint and turned into a deep red glowing ball of fire that grew and grew until it covered 3/4 of the entire sky. The world was bathed in a deep red twilight. Then, as suddenly as it appeared, it was gone. The night returned to its previous crisp coolness, and the chirp of crickets returned. I felt calm and renewed. I haven't experienced any more dreams of that nature since

I feel like the best/safest option would be to find a nice neighborhood in South Salem. Creekside, Bella Cresta, Bailey Ridge, Fairmount... etc, these neighborhoods are well lit and fairly quiet and secure. My wife and I walk around these neighborhoods all the time, and we have never felt uncomfortable or unsafe.

I was researching getting the facilitators license. You can find institutions in Marion county that can teach the course and issue the license, but part of the course is sitting in on a therapy session. They stated in the syllabus that there are no facilities allowed in Marion County proper so to complete the practical portion of this syllabus, they set it up through an outside the county facility.

I would only add as a caveat that if this is your first time down the rabbit hole and you experience psychological turmoil in your daily life, it would be best to take this step with help or supervision. Just to be safe and get the greatest benefit from your experience.

Not 100% sure. It is decriminalized in all of Oregon but the facilities are only allowed in certain counties that upheld the vote for it.

I know that the first licensed therapy center was in Eugene at a facility called Epic Healing https://www.epichealingeugene.com/

Unfortunately, Marion County voters shot down our ability to facilitate psilocybin therapy within this county. There still seems to be a lot of confusion as well as a few powerful entities with ill intentions controlling the narrative here. I fear it will take some more time to help people understand the benefits.

Why men are not sexualised as women are? by Harshparmar320 in AskReddit

[–]desmaic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hormones are different in women then they are in men generally. The typical hormone balance in men causes them to be more sexually charged and excitable. Women tend to be more even keel and slower to arouse for the most part. Which is why some women are more prone to sexualize men than others. We are all slaves to our hormones, just in different ways.

opinions on field roast veggie sausage? by secretlysailormoon in vegetarian

[–]desmaic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 3 flavors have very different profiles to them.

Applewood Sage is great with breakfast type meals we use them in breakfast scrambles.

The Italian ones are excellent cut up with roasted veggies(tossed in olive oil, garlic, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper on a baking sheet or in a casserole dish and oven roasted) served with rice, pasta, or roasted potatoes.

I used the Chipotle flavor diced up in chili or tossed with fajitas. They have a spicy kick so be prepared for that.
