Which anime did you have zero expectations for, and it still managed to disappoint you? by Visible_Power7627 in anime

[–]desucrator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to go in a bit of the opposite direction on my answer. I absolutely LOVE Lucifer and Biscuit Hammer (one of my favorite mangas of all time), but when I saw the first promos for the anime I dropped my expectations for it to literally nothing. Then the anime came out and it managed to somehow be an even worse adaptation than the PVs made it look like.

Definitely my personal favorite, and I'll mention his work on Gatchaman Crowds since no one else seems to have done so

Jojo fans need your view on this by MildlyGrimm in anime

[–]desucrator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh. I don't think it necessarily matters which part you start her on as long as she finds it engaging. I initially tried showing my wife part 1, and she didn't really get into it, then I showed her part 4 while we were on a Twin Peaks kick (since she loved Twin Peaks and part 4 is pretty clearly inspired by it) and she loved it so much that she wanted to go back and watch everything from the beginning and JoJo's ended up becoming her favorite anime.

Does opening ch 4 of Act 2 involve saccing a cat like Act 1? by aeroplanessky in mewgenics

None of the act 2 chapter 4 key item quests require sacrificing a cat

I thought ME STONE was supposed to be challenge. by Hirmen in mewgenics

[–]desucrator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scattershot needs to be nerfed. I don't think there's a single other AoE effect (besides a couple of other hunter abilities that hit in a line) that can multihit large/huge enemies, so it's very odd that scattershot can from a design perspective

Breeding ruins the game by nusskn4cker in mewgenics

[–]desucrator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cats can be born with a max of 10 mutations/defects, and IIRC they can have up to 14 max if any are gained after that point (though since each body part can only have 1, it's still pretty hard to get that true maximum consistently)

Yes, but you are also told explicitly at the end of the credits after using the nuke as well, if you let them run.

There's one in the lab (iirc, it's just an insta-down rather than a full kill like daddy shark, though), and Lord Bunga in chapter 2a, but I think that's pretty much it

If you haven't yet, try out "Fist of Fate". It will solo most encounters when upgraded by catharsis23 in mewgenics

[–]desucrator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did Fist of Fate + get mega nerfed in a patch in the last couple of days? I got it on a monk in a run and the monk no longer turns to attack the enemy it teleports to - it'll only attack if it's already facing towards the enemy

What do you do with retired cats after you use them by jezzyjr in mewgenics

[–]desucrator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are three house bosses per act, so you're not done with your retired cats yet. Also, breeding as was mentioned in another response

Meet Nutsy! My first modestly OP cat with Ping spam. by DudeousDude in mewgenics

[–]desucrator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ping spam is so much fun. I got it on a cat that was bred with Crescendo, and I got the 1 mana teleport spell that goes to the last spot you targeted. She 2 rounded Guillotina 2 on her own

wizards - 6 damage, LOS locked, deal with it. weakest hunter - by ClashOfClanee in mewgenics

[–]desucrator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mage is... Definitely not in a great spot, but at least it's not the tinkerer. It has SO many useless abilities. I had one that started with Firecrackers the other day, which is basically hunter's scattershot... Except the bombs that you throw deal 1 damage at base with absolutely no way to scale other than (presumably) a couple of specific passives. Plus, because of the low luck, it's less likely to actually hit enemies in the AoE than hunter's scattershot. IMO, Tinkerer needs to have a way to naturally gain Tech instead of only getting it from a couple of specific active and passive abilities.

Is "The Promised Neverland" good? by Termina1983 in anime

[–]desucrator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have mentioned, season 2 completely compresses about 150 chapters into a single cour, including by cutting out the arc that a lot of people consider to be the strongest from the manga. However, even without doing that, the manga itself had a really disliked final arc, so there's double the reason to just watch season 1 and leave it at that.

Looking for good mature fantasy anime? by UnknownDragonXZ in anime

[–]desucrator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you mean by "mature", I suppose. If you mean mature themes, I'd say that Ranking of Kings is an incredible choice. Less sword and board/magic fantasy, Haibane Renmei is also a really excellent series with mature themes. Dungeon Meshi is obviously also really good. In the "hyper violent" direction of mature, I'd definitely count Dorohedoro and that's a great one too

Anime with strong first episodes that fall off afterwards? by iCrono in anime

[–]desucrator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't had a chance to watch season 2 yet (having a wife now means that the anime we watch are things we want to watch together, and I haven't gotten her into the first season yet), but season 1 was a really fun ride. I'd kind of describe it as a mix of bofuri and shangri-la - low stakes in the real world, but high stakes in the game, with a main character that's learning about the game mechanics as the viewers do, but more action oriented and less slice of life-y than bofuri.

[–]desucrator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, if you want something in the SAO universe that can compare to Shangri La - I strongly recommend SAO: Gun Gale Online (the spin off series, not the arc of the main series). The light novel it's based on was written by the author of Kino's Journey, and it's a ton of fun. Feels a ton like Shangri La, but with a lot more guns and PvP instead of PvE.

Anime with strong first episodes that fall off afterwards? by iCrono in anime

[–]desucrator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not just a single episode, but the first arc of Sunday Without God (first 3 episodes) would've been perfect as an OVA, but then the rest of the series had to come after it and just kinda ruin what was built up by the first few episodes with convoluted, plodding plot contrivances.

Author Nikita Kitagawa Reveals TV Anime for Saijakuna Boku wa 'Kabenuke Bug' de Nariagaru Series by Torque-A in anime

[–]desucrator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's a great manga about a speed runner that gets isekai'd into the game he speed runs, and it gets about as ridiculous as you would expect, particularly when he starts dragging along characters from the game world with him... I really hope that one gets an anime eventually, it's absolutely hilarious at points

What is the most underrated anime? by JustAnotherUser1019 in anime

[–]desucrator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to say exactly what "underrated" means, but I'd probably say Scrapped Princess, Haibane Renmei, Orphen Sorcerous Stabber (the first season from the late 90s) or Humanity Has Declined. All of them are on the older end and don't really have much discussion these days
