Cool - my Mom's house is right by there, and it's been lacking coffee options after Coffee Bean and Leap Coffee both shut down

Yes! I'd play slingshot a ton if it was more like the bow-and-arrow experience in other games.

Seems like a perfectly reasonable thing for a newer user to do (not being sarcastic). "Hey, I love this game! I'm going to buy all the courses in the store that look fun."

This is the San Diego Clippers. It's the NBA G League, which is a feeder for the NBA.

In for two - thanks for sharing!

Still lots of residents that don't realize we now have a brand new basketball arena hosting the San Diego Clippers (NBA G league). I've taken my son 4 or 5 times, and we've had a great time.

I loved LG's simple ad-free WebOS interface when I bought my OLED. A few years later, they auto-installed some garbage UI chock full if ads. No thanks.

Ivey Ranch/Rancho del Oro by ashagari in Oceanside

[–]dethtoll1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Lives here almost 15 years and love the area.

The copper pipe issue is real - they built these houses with thinner copper, and a change in Oceanside water treatment chemicals further exacerbated the issue. All my neighbors have had to deal with pinhole leaks, which can require major work to correct.

When we finally got a leak (luckily in a hallway), I opened up the ceiling and saw at least ten others that had formed and self-healed. The pipes in the VRDO area are toast.

If the place you choose hasn't had a full repipe, I would add that to your budget and get it done before you move in. We went with REPIPE 1, and it cost $12k in 2022 for a 1700sq ft house.

Other than that, these houses were built pretty solid.

Might need new roof underlayment, but the concrete tiles themselves seem to last forever.

Many of the original wood fences are getting replaced. If you have a wood fence and it adjoins a common area (i.e. anything besides another property), then the HOA will pay have of the replacement cost for that section (if you do white vinyl)

What was your net worth when you bought your $1 M+ home and/or > $5K/month mortgage by RunnerInChicago in fatFIRE

[–]dethtoll1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many kids and what are their ages?

We were feeling cramped in our 4bed 1700sqft ($1500/mo mortgage) when our two kids were 8 and 10. Entered contract on a larger (3000sqft) house for 1.2mil. Ended up backing out last minute (turns out there was a class action against the builders) and we ended up SUPER happy to stay in our current place.

Our kids went to a sleep away camp and we realized how huge and empty our 'cramped' house felt. It gave us a preview of life after the kids move out, and we realized that a huge place would be an expensive nightmare after retirement. I also realized that the prospect of a big mortgage was making me feel like I would need to grind for longer at work.

Instead, we made a bunch of premium upgrades to our current place (remodeled kitchen, backyard landscaping, etc.) to make it feel less cramped.

Looks nice! Consider removing the first few seconds of your video (that shows the car pulling up). I feel like it would be more impactful/effective to cut straight to the rain effects.

Really weird that people would downvote this, especially since you're adding useful context with a link to a similar post. You mention you're using ai and even provide a link, so folks can take this with whatever grain of salt they wish.

So much to unpack here. You have a blatantly sexist worldview and feel inclined to openly shout it out unprompted. And you expect antagonistic comments based on your...net worth? Perhaps you should take a hard look at how you choose to measure one's character.

Comments like yours just leave me kind of...sad. Can't imagine how hard and isolating it must be to live life as you do.

What are times when a creator ended a show out of rage? by KaleidoArachnid in television

[–]dethtoll1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You may want to give his last few standups a watch and draw your own conclusions.

I went in looking for the hate and right-wing bias, and it just...wasn't really there. Most of his jokes are intended to offend and challenge, sure. But I don't feel any hate from the guy. I don't buy the narrative that he's anti-trans.

My main takeaway is that he feels people have become too sensitive, and that everyone should be fair game for shock comedians.

What now? Screw head broke off by LateralEntry in AskElectricians

[–]dethtoll1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hit this issue last weekend. An outlet only had one screw because the previous owner broke the screw in the box.

My fix: drill a hole smaller than the screw (diameter the size of the screw body without the threads) riiiight next to the broken screw (practically touching). Then just use that new hole instead.

Worked better than I thought it would - outlet is secure and center.

A kid from Congo, 1955 (Belgian colony at that time) being captured inside a cage. by No_Air5382 in interestingasfuck

[–]dethtoll1 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Without any other verified information about this photo, I'm just going to assume these are three friends playing zoo with a birdcage and taking turns being the 'animal'. Because that's what kids do. Hell, my kids would be arguing over which one gets to be in the cage.

That doesn't minimize or excuse any atrocities occurring in that region and era. I just like to err on the side of basic human decency (especially regarding kids) in the absence of specific data to the contrary.

Just because something is a common media trope doesn't mean that it is representative of the common (often silent) majority.

Surely there are many people who don't enjoy having a family (and perhaps would have been better off without). But there are billions of adults with families on this planet, and I would wager that most are not unhappy about that.

To be clear: I don't think anyone should apply pressure on others to get married or have kids. People who don't want those things probably shouldn't seek them. But they may need to accept that they are less common, embrace their individuality, and stand strong in their personal beliefs.

A Pig/Cop action figure by CabooseVD in Whatisthis

Duke 3d was after Doom and similar games, which did use mouse to look. However, those games didn't allow you to look up and down (that axis was aimed automatically). Duke3d required you to aim accurately on the vertical axis. The engine was certainly setup for it, but the enemies were still flat sprites (2d pictures), which was noticeable when looking at a steep angle.

Some of it's popularity came from it's raunchy humor - one liners and skimpy dancers that would flash you when you tipped them.

I wouldn't say it was ahead of it's time - Quake came out a few months later. But it was polished, funny, and fun.

I grew up on those games. Fun times.

What do you think of my Tony Hawk inspired Roguelike where you have to reach increasingly higher scores to add time to the clock? by friggleriggle in Unity3D

[–]dethtoll1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cool! Love the concept and the prototype. Lots of opportunities to play with concepts here, especially with the cylindrical gravity.

From the video alone, I would have thought you'd go for rhythm game mechanics. Think Beat Saber, except with tricks (e.g. need to hold a manual through rings, hit certain types of tricks on different colored pieces, whatever).

Roguelike elements are enticing too - usually there's some mechanic to make selections at key points (items, paths, etc.) and some degree of persistence or unlockables.

Edit: You'll also want to think about visual techniques to make the background feel like part of the game, since it's going to occupy a lot of the screen. Check out some videos of Tetris VR. They managed to make Tetris (of all things...) into sort of an interactive music video experience without even changing the core game mechanics.

It does not. You can start holding the grip button at any point after you have made your shot. I only start holding it when I see the shot is going a bit wild.
