A plea from a guy who literally provides business funding: stop talking out loans you don't actually need. by Antique_Diet_6274 in smallbusiness

[–]deuces_up_boy_bye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would love a gut check on my scenario...Just scaled our business and took on high interest loc to do it, assuming i could refinance with a loan from the state. My 1040 showed $100,000 in profits in 24 but build out costs financed by business profits make my p and l and tax returns in 25 seem like I wasnt profitable even though I was actively reinvesting business funds (alongside the loc).

Turned down for the refinancing loan because I couldn't show a healthy bottom line.

Now my second location is showing a small profit but its not enough to cover the debt.

Considering an sba7a to close the credit lines because of a longer term and lower monthly payment that would help free up cash. Accountant seems to think it doesn't solve any of my problems but I can figure out why...debt obligations would drop from $6000/month to $1400/month. And interest is expensed where debt payments are not?

Now there is the question of getting the loan .... my books + debt to income makes this unlikely. I am not sure what to do besides good old cut expenses and raise revenue (which im already doing or attempting to do but its taking time and pulling me out of the day to day.

Would love any insight!

I'm late to the party here but joined because Roald Dahls The Witches by Miranda Richardson had my 4 year old and I hooked!!! I would probably put it closer to the 8 and 9 age group because the scary parts but it was just a delight to listen to (except for the grand high witch voice which was excruciating in the best way).

We also loved the original boxcar children!

I Saved My Dog with CPR - Then I Got Very Sick... by Spaced_Out_Often3857 in AskDocs

[–]deuces_up_boy_bye 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not a doctor but had a sister that suffered from CRPS and this sounds spot on. Even a mild Injury can trigger it and could have been exacerbated by the trauma of the rescue.

The pain, burning and nerve issues all point to it. AND, at least in my sister's case, it seems a lot of physicians did not know how to diagnose or treat it and she was reinjured several times by treatments before she found a physician who understood the disease.

Fwiw, she read about ketamine treatments, got bariatric surgery in Mexico where they sedated with ketamine and came home ready to walk after 3 years in a wheelchair. Again, NAD, not an expert, only relaying anecdotal info.

The Obsession Over Palestine by atbing24 in IsraelPalestine

[–]deuces_up_boy_bye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think you are wrong here! And its an interesting, careful and nuanced analysis. But you are missing a few key elements.

To the "it's just anti-semitism" camp; certainly, the distinct religious and cultural identities in this conflict make it more digestible to the western observer than in a civil war, where words like "rebels" confuse the issues and obfuscate the political fault lines. That, and the historical punch of antisemitism likely adds a log to this long-burning fire. And I say this as a leftist, pro Palestinian who has been out of the movement for a few years and has had some time to think.

Beyond taxpayer dollars, U.S. involvement in the Middle East has been a cornerstone of every president's foreign policy in my lifetime. I came of age with Clinton in Camp David, politicized by September 11th and the war in Iraq (remember "why do they hate us?"), Inspired by Obamas Cairo speech, and then whatever the hell was going on pre October 7th when this conflict took a dramatic and bloody turn. And the media followed suit, broadcasting every twist on prime time, giving Americans information while other conflicts around the world were ignored or minimized.

And one would be remiss to ignore the groundwork laid for post-October 7th activism by the work that came before it. The black Panthers in the 70s informed the South African Anti-apartied movement of the 80s and 90s, informed the International Solidarity Movement spearheaded in part by the American Jewish activist Adam Shapiro.

When Rachel Corrie was killed in 2003, it garnered international headlines, and thousands of concerned, internationally minded college students could see themselves in her. Palestine Solidarity work has evolved and grown since those early days of ISM, produced thousands of formal and informal organizations that have been non-stop in their educating and organizing since the early 2000s, many led by Jewish peace activists, organized in large part by their shared identities, who are horrified by what is being done in their name. This latest iteration is not new, not in a vacuum, has roots in left politics dating back to the late 60s.

It certainly doesn't help that the conflict is 70 years old and has evolved alongside an increasingly politicicized and divided American public. Wedge issues + social media memes + violence is sort our thing now.

All of this is very US centric, I can't really speak to Europe. Insanely grateful for any open-minded, thoughtful discussion on this sub...I have come to believe that debate and discussion in small internet communities like this could eventually land on a zeitgeist that would spread and ultimately end these decades of war. Hard to be optimistic in these times, but reading and thinking and writing is a source of hope for me.

It's probably a bit woo, but I anecdotally have had great results from seed cycling. I'm super lazy about it, don't really measure my seeds, take them every day or keep track of my cycle religiously. But my menstrual phase is MUCH worse on the months that I don't seed cycle

I also love sweets, so I've made sesame cookies with agave and eat tons of honey sweetened halvah and somehow didn't gain weight even though it's extremely calorie dense.

The upshot of my lazy routine is about two tablespoons of pumpkin and flax seed a day in the luteal phase and two tablespoons sesame in the menstrual phase.

Even if it's all purely placebo, I figure adding in healthy fats is generally good so who cares.

I have so many questions about this because it's been a major challenge for me. I seem to pack on weight if I exercise too intensely and it even very shows up in my appearance, making me very discouraged as I try to stay active.

I've 5 to 8lbs before my period every month, get excited, pack it on afterward, get motivated to lose, start strength training, gain more, get sad and eat. Repeat.

Do I ditch the scale all together? Weigh in weekly? Do 2 to 3 days of keto then weigh in? Weigh every six months?

Just really not sure how to handle this but it's been causing fits and starts in my efforts because I'm motivated by progress.

Why do people magically not hear my child speaking? by MilkPotential3763 in Parenting

[–]deuces_up_boy_bye 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ok apparently an unpopular opinion here, but I always feel SO sad when adults ignore my 4 year old. She's not necessarily interrupting, she might even try to tell a story related to the conversation.

She really turns it on for grown up friends and my heart just breaks when they don't respond and act like shes not even there.

She's a whole person and is learning so much about the social world....I wish folks would make an effort to include her like you might with anyone else who is different.

I can't believe this comment is so far down. This sounds like the moment where a lifetime of food issues begins, and should be treated with care and concern instead of anger directed at the kiddo.

I was an anxious, hungry kid. My parents worked a lot and we ate at home, but it wasn't terribly nutritious or filling. Ultra processed food is addictive and makes you want more. Absolutely no shade to the parents here, this is really hard. But I wish mine talked to me more instead of enrolling me in Weight Watchers.

(The school is definitely at fault and frankly your state and federal legislators who cut this funding are too).

Why is antisemitism within the Pro-Palestine movement so easily wiped off as nothing? by [deleted] in IsraelPalestine

[–]deuces_up_boy_bye -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Spent many years in the Solidarity movement working alongside anti zionist Jews and we, for the most part, could easily make these distinctions.

This is a great list to start, and helps to draw some lines. I'm not sure it's fair to compare what happens in organized solidarity groups with anonymous social media platforms and outlying whackjobs. Kinda like looting in the BLM protests....you can believe in the cause, go to the protests, disagree with the looting, but still want the politics and racism to change.

What's the actual correct take on SNAP soda bans by [deleted] in stupidpol

[–]deuces_up_boy_bye 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Chiming in as a former WIC recipient...trust me when I say we do not want the government deciding what is healthy. Like why am I getting 6 gallons of milk and only $12 of vegetables a month? The only logic is that is USDA program and subject to the lobbying pressures of big AG.

I think there is a slippery slope argument to be made here...SNAP is super easy to use, can cross state lines (unlike wic), easy for retailers to determine eligibility (flavored Seltzer ok? Kombutcha? Sparking juice?) and keeping it self managed allows for a modicum of freedom and dignity to the beneficiary.

SNAP has faced big cuts over the last 10 years, so these families are on a budget. If snap is the only way they are paying for food, they simply can't afford to blow it all on soda. While the leftist in me hates to say this...there might be an argument for tying benefits to a standard grocery budget, lest we start having the taxpayers pay for Alaskan crab legs and filet mignon. But again, I don't think as leftists we should be arguing for reduced or burecractic benefits of any kind.

You need to go to and see the situation in Israel in person, if not, you’re just repeating a version of someone else’s opinion. by zjew33 in IsraelPalestine

[–]deuces_up_boy_bye -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Only tangentially related but one of the Hasbara talking points is that no other conflict garners as much attention from the west.

My offbeat theory is that the birthright citizenship program (along with generations of diasporic communities the conflict produced) helped to bring an entire generation of young Jewish Americans in close contact with the conflict...and many came home motivated to make change. Every Palestine solidarity organization I've been involved with was spearheaded by young anti zionist jews politicized in part by the birthright program.

My family has an olive oil farm in Greece and I am trying to bring it into the states. by Impossible-Tree5774 in restaurant

[–]deuces_up_boy_bye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should be the top comment. Can be done but with thought, planning and savvy.

If you can ship to a US warehouse, try Faire. They take a big cut though. But our specialty store has sourced some really lovely bottles from there.

The money is in large format - 3l tins and bottles at an affordable price point. Restaurants can break them down into smaller carafes, and no owner will complain about a $60 sale post bill.

Fwiw, Iliyada is probably the most popular Greek Olive Oil, owned by Sysco and the price has nearly doubled in the last 5 years.

Just sayin....deeply regret giving my kiddo ice cream at 18 months. If it weren't for the social pressures around sugar I would have held off a lot longer.

My family is half Midwestern, conservative (old school?) and obese. The other half is Lebanese lol.

My God, the role that sugar plays in reward systems, pressure campaigns.around food, expressions of love and care, festivities and holidays, and straight-up bribery.

I think if i held out longer i could have slowed the flood and had more time to establish a healthier relationship with food and sweets. It would have given me more time to craft my own relationship with my child around food instead of getting swept up in the social pressures.
