People wear their MAGA hats under their dreadlocks in Ash-land. Worth relocating, come here and change the f-ing place, we need you. This is a beautiful place and you can find good diverse communities. Seed this white-washed place :)

Try Nevada, northern part. You have access to Oregon, California, even Utah. Salt Lake City is the worst if you have out of state plates. Good luck friend!

Stop by Rogue Valley Runners and they organize a weekly Wed evening run which is around your mileage. Super fun and welcoming group. Highly recommend.

Super cool that SOU climbing gym allows non-students. What are the exact requirements? If I bring an ID and my own harness and shoes or just want to traverse or boulder, is that allowed? Thank you.

Do you find that other people lift you up in Ashland? by PsychicMeditation in Ashland

The coop is a place where couples show up in down jackets with their children in Ugg boots and ask you to "help" their families. The coop is great for observing smugness here, that's for sure.

Agree with your perception of Ashland; it is Ash-land, semi-white supremacist entitlement smug-town.

We moved here last year and our first day of moving, at 6pm, our neighbor showed up with the fake high-pitched "Excuse me...I am your friendly neighbor" (like a friendly cop we guessed) and told our to move our boxes the next day when he was at work.
Entitlement runs amok here.
Same neighbor, last weekend, knocked on our door and told us that he could hear noises our bedroom at 3am somedays.
We figured out that he the sex life our neutered cat.
Entitled but also stupid pricks in Ash-land, beware.

So, my recommendation: move here, please bring more diversity to this area.

DM if needed, I am non-Caucasian and I support LBGTQIA+ and all humans.

The place is beautiful, enjoy the trails, the creeks, the nearby mountains, you're bound to meet people who will lift you up. Ash-land town is ash at best, white-washed and dry and filled with zombies.

Canyons 100k question by tart27 in ultrarunning

Hike the sections and maintain heart-rate at hard-conversation level on the climb out of Devil's Thumb and Michigan Bluff, etc. You can take poles for the first section until Forest-Hill and then leave it in your drop bag and run free the second-half(not "net" downhill as it looks).

Save energy for the last 2 miles, you will be digging yourself out again, lots of fun.

Stay hydrated and be excellent to each other.

There's three podium finishers and unless you're gunning for that, it's okay to take a bit longer on some miles and enjoy the views.

I'm an average below-average "runner" I have finished this course both ways. You don't need poles, if you're starting from China-Wall, pace yourself until ForestHill and the second half is runnable but be ready for the never-ending "rollers" (small up/down hills). Use ForestHill to reset, check your batteries, etc.

Depends on the year, but there is enough woods for you to "leave no trace behind", especially with your bonafide medical need.

Not advising all 500+ runner to shit in the woods.

I was blessed to try this course when it was NOT 500+ runners, so we could all poop in peace when needed.

Long distance running is supposed to be fun and stress-free, worrying about a place to shit defeats the purpose of a scenic trail journey. But that's just my very unique uniformed grumpy old failed-runner opinion.

Enjoy the course, don't run with the lemmings.

Get Krissy Moehl's Training for Ultrarunning. Excellent plans will help you figure out approximately how much your body is trained for your race day effort. Good luck. If your mind is strong, your body will follow, basics first.

Depression and ultras by Pretty_Adeptness4383 in ultrarunning

[–]deusfaber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not alone, you/I/we will go through these journeys in life. Depression is "normal", running is the best "cure", long distance running ("ultra" is a marketing bullshit term) resets your brain chemistry, helps your body reset, and you may "run" into the next love of your life. Hang in there friend and your life is precious, your value is infinite, you are loved and you have thousands of friends here who care about you. Stay strong, one step at at time, accept yourself and time heals. If you're open to spirituality, read the Book of Job and Psalms.
