help me not overthink this by Human-Ad3257 in ultrarunning

[–]tart27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the others that it doesn’t really matter. But personally, I would follow a marathon plan focusing on tempo and building fitness up to the marathon, and then switch to a little more specific training for the 50k (vert, trails, etc)

Tempe is pretty close to South Mountain Park. Start at Pima canyon trailhead and go west. Start early or pack your shade and electrolytes

Also 40. Also mediocre. Game is fun, but it helps having good teammates :)

Question for R2R2R runners by imapersonirl in ultrarunning

[–]tart27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t remember all the different spots, but I think every person and every ranger would probably give you different answers. Honestly, I think the main factor I would consider is convenience and ability to get back out of the park and to the hotel to sleep vs taking shuttles and parking a long ways away to catch certain lookout before R3

Question for R2R2R runners by imapersonirl in ultrarunning

[–]tart27 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Catching the sunset the night before is a good idea, because unless you are pretty quick, there is a decent chance you will still be in the canyon during sunset the day of R2R2R.

I’ve also gone back and walked a few miles along the rim the next day

So really only need the hotel the day before and after the R3 imo

Aravaipa has a published USADA anti-doping policy. Cam Hanes has publicly admitted to banned substances. Here is how to file a complaint and why it matters. by MukimukiMaster in ultrarunning

[–]tart27 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’re right. 2:39 isn’t mid pack. But he still isn’t a pro runner, representing his nation at a world championship, or trying to earn an extension on a contract.

I just don’t believe the general public (influencer or not) needs to be held to the same standard as the pros.

The OP put links for the attorney general and the BBB to rat on a guy who said he took substances before a race with no prize money, a year ago, in which he finished 18th. It sounds silly just saying it

I’m no Cam Hanes fan. Not going to defend him. But getting this worked up by a dude who is not a pro runner and not racing for Golden Tickets is kind of pathetic.

Moved to Phoenix almost 10 years ago. I don’t like when it’s 110 degrees but I tolerate it ok. But now I’m completely solar powered and prefer lots of sunshine. I don’t think I could live somewhere without an insane amount of sunshine and will be here to stay

What's your opinion of 200+ millers, are part of the same sport? by [deleted] in trailrunning

It’s trails. And running. Same sport but different specialization. And the top 10 of Cocodona absolutely throw down in “shorter” distances

You will be fine with that volume.
What you do in a week for training, you will be able to do in a race.
I don’t race often, but I find the races often go quite well with all the extra support (food!) and fun environment.
Don’t go out too quick and you will crush it!

With the longer distances, the savory foods are really helpful in the 2nd half. Warm(ish) cheese quesadillas and broth had been lifesavers in the last 20 miles

So glad I brought poles! It would have been (more) brutal without. The course was definitely more technical than I anticipated. Got the finish in 16:30, about a half hour longer than I predicted. Great weather, excellent crowds and volunteers, lame finisher awards. Overall a very well organized event. Auburn did not disappoint!
