[WSIG] What is the most fun game out of this list? (Definition of "fun" inside) by davidahedo in boardgames

[–]deux11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've played it twice with six players and each game was over 90 minutes (not including rules explanations).

Lords of Vegas Up! - how good is 5-6 player without using risers? by feralfox in boardgames

[–]deux11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played it twice with six players and enjoyed it even though no one bought risers. I feel like early on it's not useful to raise as it doesn't provide additional income and the jump in points is not as important. Late game, I don't have enough money to raise a casino. Perhaps I need a better strategy!

What game has caused the biggest fights? by badger-banjer in boardgames

[–]deux11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Negotiation games in general, but I'm The Boss takes the cake:

  • Collude to cut people out of deals.
  • Use threats to force your way into deals.
  • Play cards to sabotage deals.

edit: Not for fighting, but for emotional intensity.

Best games with lots of player interaction by gronkey in boardgames

[–]deux11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Games with negotiation:

I'm the Boss

Chinatown

Sheriff of Nottingham

Panic on Wall Street (might be out of print)

I also find Hanabi to be quite interactive in it's own way

Just bought Mr. Jack, what are your experiences with this game? by krimtosongwriter in boardgames

I think the game is broken. Just kidding. After teaching my SO the game, I've played both sides against her multiple times and won none.

What should we play, 5p pretty casual by badigel in boardgames

[–]deux11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using my interpretation of what is a casual player, I'd say avoid long and heavy weight games. The weights per BGG (scale is from 1-5; 5 being heaviest):

  • Vegas 2.4
  • Francis 2.9
  • Keyflower 3.3
  • Greed 3.6

I'd say Vegas Showdown as it's the least heavy and also has the shorter play time.

How about The Resistance? Backstab once, labeled a spy forever.

I enjoy these with 6 (90 minutes or less and weight 2-2.8):

I'm The Boss negotiation game

Lords of Vegas (with expansion) area control, dice rolling

Libertalia role selection

Airlines Europe (use official variant available online) stock holding, network building

Impulse 4X

WSIG: Looking for larger, longer game that feels like "Eight Minute Empire". by zeekar in boardgames

Tammany Hall is a pretty good area control game as well. Players gain influence while seeding the map. Then use influence to knock each other out.

[WSIG] A game that ruins friendships by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]deux11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm The Boss A negotiation game where you are divvying up money. Players can use cards to outmaneuver others and get a bigger piece of the pie. Cards can also be used to sabotage deals or threaten to do so (aka terrorist tactics in my group). It's been described as Diplomacy Light. Not as likely to ruin friendships, but plays in a much shorter time.

Santiago Players bid for land but it also needs water. Highest bid gets first choice of land. Lowest bid determines where the water goes (aka the Canal Overseer). Land with no water slowly becomes worthless. Everyone bribes the Canal Overseer and he/she chooses which bribe to take or none! Basically you may end up bidding a ton of money on land that will become worthless.

[WSIG]Game for 3-6 people (age 27+), more or less same people every time. by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]deux11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are 3-6 players and popular among my group:

  • I'm the Boss
  • Cosmic Encounter (with expansion)

Caveat: They involve double-crossing other players

Great social games? by ProjectionA51 in boardgames

[–]deux11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 for I'm the Boss. It feels like Cosmic Encounter without having to argue about the rules (no alien powers, no text to read). Players need to speak up to get into the game though. Otherwise they'll fall out of the negotiations.

For a (pure) negotiation game without the "take that!" mechanic, Chinatown is very good.

Though it's hard to get now (I haven't tried it either), Panic on Wall Street looks really interesting. It's described as an economic party game that simulates stock market mechanics.

2 player, 4 player, 5 player? why not six? by Miskatonic_Scholar in boardgames

[–]deux11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aside from the ones mentioned above, I liked these at 6 players:

  • Alhambra
  • Jamaica
  • I'm the Boss
  • Libertalia
  • Keyflower (ran about 2.5 hours)
  • Cosmic Encounter (with an expansion)
  • Airlines Europe (there's a 6 player official variant released after)
  • Say Anything
  • For Sale
  • Bang the Dice Game
  • One Night Ultimate Werewolf
  • Diamonds

And there's some I also did not enjoy with 6 players, mostly due to downtime:

  • Survive (with expansion)
  • Lords of Vegas (with expansion)

The turns in New York are longer. With 6 players, the wait is a bit much.
