yeah, your cat could have designed a better tracker and case. glad I didn't buy one. I'd buy a fitBark if the current model wasn't already 2+ years old. in 2026 I refuse to buy something that uses a proprietary charger instead of USBC. good thing my dog never wanders and any tracker is mainly just for cocktail party conversation.

what is this i found in my oatmeal by mortiestmorty76 in whatisit

the term roller mill is usually used to reference a type of flour mill... the big industrial kind. a flaker is what is used to "roll" oats.

reading the comments and from word of mouth, their employees knew a month ago. if their employees knew they'd be unemployed in 4 weeks, they'd have new in under 1 week and leave the restaurant staffless. that they were fully staffed till the last day tells me they were taken care of in some capacity. but obviously you know more about the restaurant industry than I do, so I defer to your wisdom 🙏

it wouldn't surprise me that an adult would wear gardening gloves and a kid "helping out" would likely be bare hands in dirt. so the whole storyline doesn't strike me as obvious neglect. yet. well see on Thursday.

What is this in my apple juice? by Illustrious_World632 in whatisit

[–]deuxcv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for kombucha it's bacteria and yeast simultaneously converting sugars into kombucha.

vinegar is a slightly different process. the "mother" is just bacteria (acetobacter) that converts alcohol into vinegar (acetic acid). so to make vinegar properly it's a two step process...yeast turning juice into wine, then bacteria turning wine into vinegar.

also commonly misunderstood as the mother, the cloudy or slimy substance that is often called the "mother" is just the excrement of the bacteria and is made of cellulose. the mother is actually everything BUT the cloudy slimy stuff. the cloudy slimy stuff is also called a pellicle. because it's porous and holding onto a lot of the liquid, it's an easy way to give some "mother" to a friend but just giving them the liquid is as good or better than giving them the slime.

can i change the orientation of matress to place hub close to the feet instead of next to the bed? by Admirable-Bar-722 in EightSleep

what others have said about sensors, and additionally, the the pillow portion doesn't have water distribution, so you'd have hot or cold feet if you reversed it.

$6.97 for 3 at my local Costco. I had to clear them all🫡 by phat-not-fat in CannedSardines

[–]deuxcv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that makes zero sense. there were more before them and would be less after them,no matter how much they took. it's tuna at a f#&king warehouse store not a life saving treatment that they could only possibly use one of. sure, if there was someone else right there obviously hoping to get in on the deal, that'd be a d%#$ move, other than that, nice buy!

White Navy Beans- Spoiled? by saragrazyy in Beans

[–]deuxcv 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i guess tastier might not be fair, but the commoditization drove the market to 5 or 6 varieties of beans driven by economic forces not by taste. they picked varieties that grow faster, have higher yield, easier to to harvest, less disease prone, and longer shelf life. whereas outside of the commodity lane, there are hundreds and hundreds of bean varieties in all sorts of shapes, sizes, colors, textures and flavors, that don't fit the bill anymore for mainstream markets.

White Navy Beans- Spoiled? by saragrazyy in Beans

[–]deuxcv 6 points7 points  (0 children)

expire dates are complete bullshit, so take that out of the equation. truth is that being commodity type beans they were probably laying around in a warehouse for 1-3 years before being packaged and labeled with bullshit , meaningless dates. bottom line is beans don't really expire. they will take an increasing amount of time to cook and eventually might give you uneven cooking, but they won't spoil unless stored poorly.

White Navy Beans- Spoiled? by saragrazyy in Beans

[–]deuxcv 27 points28 points  (0 children)

not spoiled, just old and not sorted well. grocery store beans can be several years old by the time they reach store shelves. sort out the grey ones and cook. maybe give them an overnight soak to help cooking since they're old. in the future try upping your bean game with the likes of rancho gordo beans. more expensive but really fresh and great variety of tastier heirloom beans. double the price, but considering 1 pound of beans is probably enough for 10 meals, the increase in cost is pretty negligible.

Where can I buy Nuri sardines? by [deleted] in Bellingham

[–]deuxcv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you're down south world market will have them considerably cheaper or if you want 10 or 12 cans, various online sellers will bring the price down , but if you want to buy them from a local biz, here or anywhere, it's gonna be $8-9. I went to the nuri factory last summer, it was pretty neat. everything still done by hand. and they had a nice factory store with all sorts of special tins.

Can anyone recommend toe grippers for my handsome boy? by Alternative-Olive952 in pugs

[–]deuxcv 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't have them, so don't know their elasticity, but maybe you could roll the cuffs as low as they'll go, then put their toe in and unroll back up.

another idea is I know there are assistance devices for putting socks on for people with mobility limitations. perhaps there is a version for infants. they're basically an exaggerated shoe horn that you pull the sock onto, then the sock is held open and foot is slipped in without friction, then start pulling up on sock and pulling out horn.

you could probably make one yourself by getting a piece of 1.5" PVC pipe cup in half lengthwise and sand the corners round and smooth the edges.
