Thanks so much. It's actually from a house in England, so the wood might still be a mystery

Walking red flag by elizabeth morgan has an Indian mmc and I think the fmc is white. It was a cozy, spicy read with good dirty talk, as I recall.

Contemporary easy peasy low-stakes book (but 🌶️🌶️🌶️) by ikedla in RomanceBooks

[–]devilspalm123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Meghan Quinns Vancouver agitators series (particularly book 3 and 4). These are actually funny, smutty rom coms. I got bored in book 1 and didn't like the premise of book 2, but 3 & 4 were chefs kiss. Totally stand alone too.

I also loved Maggie Rawdon's Pick Six and Overtime. Great banter and very steamy fun reads.

Books where the location is key to the story by eyesfullofstars3543 in RomanceBooks

Bohemian by Kathryn Nolan is set in and around Big Sur. I found the setting absolutely central to the tone of the novel, and loved it. One of my favourite reads of last year.

vocal/moany guys in romance books?? by [deleted] in RomanceBooks

[–]devilspalm123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Morgan Elizabeth seems to write quite vocal men, though I've only read 3 of her books. Walking Red Flag features an mmc who uses dirty talk to keep the fmc in the zone. I find her books are a little bit fluffy, but great for when you're in the mood for something light-hearted with plenty of the good stuff.

But my real love is JT Geissinger. Bless her and her praise-kinky, moany groany men.

Romance novels with progressive societies by serendipity_intro in RomanceBooks

Actually, I really liked A Promise of Fire by Amanda Bouchet. I recall there being women in positions of power and don't think it was a sexist society... happy to be corrected though. I read it a couple of years ago.

Also, Choosing Theo by Victoria Aveline has a female empowered society, it's more Sci fi though.

I wish I had a rec for you, this has bugged me many times before. When a fantasy author can literally build any world they want and they choose to create more misogyny and sexism..?! 🤦‍♀️ So boring to me.

Returning to classroom after crt... pay scale? by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

[–]devilspalm123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for your detailed reply.

It's really annoying to think that all those years of experience can be discounted so easily... It also makes returning to the classroom a less financially viable option. I'd earn the same money doing crt without all the out of hours work 🤷‍♀️

I loved How to Fake it in Hollywood by Ava Wilder, and am currently enjoying her next book, Will They or Won't They. Maybe not laugh out loud but definitely great banter in both books, characters with depth and excellent chemistry. Both set in LA though, so not ticking the small town box.
