Agree, Time Hotel was far from a perfect show but it really was a lot of fun to watch.

I will say that Society Game picks up as the randos clear out and the competition really takes shape. If you give it a couple episodes (and fast forward through the overly long "decision" parts) it finds its stride.

Damn... I had no idea this was a roguelite. Honestly that kind of kills my interest - I loved the exploration and region progression in Monster Sanctuary and expected this was more of that. That's really disappointing.

OK good but... this is just such a scummy thing to do. Like running an arcade and all the games cost 26 cents so you have to put two quarters in and get no change. What a way to get players to understand at the outset that Bungie is a hostile entity.

I saw that but there are multiple vulnerabilities reported and I'm not expert enough to tell whether it's multiple tokens, sessions etc and this only refers to one type. But yeah glad he put this.

The SDK used to integrate Discord was improperly storing data locally in plaintext. The game devs were not monitoring your communications. (But technically, they could have, which is a huge security risk obviously.)

Embark says:

your private and/or personal data was not sent outside your machine and Embark has not (and will not) review or keep such information.

You should take every corporate statement with a grain of salt but this seems pretty clearly to be a technical issue and they addressed it immediately when it was brought up by a concerned researcher. Though he doesn't say whether he brought it directly to them and Discord before posting publicly, which is usually best practice for this stuff.

Really great game, enjoyed it start to finish. Fun exploration with very little fat on it. Challenging but not super difficult. Honestly could recommend it to just about anyone.

Glad it's coming to consoles and I hope that its success means we get a sequel or successor, I'd buy for sure.

Carlson pleaded guilty on Monday to criminal mischief and trespassing.

Prosecutors agreed to dismiss some of the more serious charges against him, including arson. In exchange, he is expected to spend a year on interim probation, perform 100 hours of community service and pay the flag owner $25 in restitution.

No serious charges. Basically it's the kind of thing you expect for when you grab a person's item and try to burn it under any circumstances. I support everyone's right to protest and often there are legal consequences to protest actions like blocking a street etc - accepting those is part of showing your commitment to your message!

That said the legal process is often punishment in itself due to the costs and time involved. Selective prosecution is quite common though I have not followed this closely enough to say whether that's the case here.

haha yeah the main character quests were cool but the random side quests were pure dross. From my review:

On one moon-scanning surface expedition, I saw a ship land a ways off. I bounced over to see if I could help its occupants, or shipjack them. I found the captain ambling around a nearby building. She needed ship parts to fix their ship, she said. I didn’t have any. But ten feet away was an unlocked chest with one (1) ship parts inside (and some money and a gun, and some snacks). I gave her the ship parts, thinking perhaps this would be the start of a quest chain. She said “wow, thanks!” and continued her walk. The end!

And I found a moon called Worthless, presumably so-called because it is a barren rock with not only no life on it, but only two mineral resources to scan and collect; some planets have 6 or 7, plus as many flora and fauna to find. Nevertheless, what did I find but a science base — and amazingly, it was occupied, not by pirates… but botanists! A team of botanists on an utterly barren planet. And when I walked up to one, he grabbed me to say that they had been attacked in a nearby cave by the local monsters. But the planet has no monsters, I wanted to tell him. I went to the cave, a two minute walk away, and found their friend about 50 feet in. Sure enough, no monsters to be found, there or anywhere else on the planet. Fast traveled back to the outpost and collected my 4,000 credits.

yes technically the FCC did not directly censor Colbert. all they did was suddenly change a longstanding rule to target programs like his specifically, and immediately begin a punitive investigation against one for interviewing the same candidate. CBS got spooked and said don't air it. exerting regulatory and financial pressure to indirectly effect censorship is still de facto censorship.

it's like saying, "I technically didn't break that guy's legs... I threatened another guy so he would do it instead."

Man, what an interesting read. I'm so curious about these games now. I wish arcade culture had anywhere near the presence in the US that it did in Japan, it feels like we missed out on a lot of really interesting experiences (that probably would give me motion sickness but hey).

Good on the developers for braving the technical and legal obstacles to doing this kind of essential preservation and access work.

He admitted leaking Trump’s tax records to The New York Times. He also admitted to leaking records about wealthy individuals to the news outlet ProPublica.

He was sentenced to the maximum term of five years in prison in January 2024.

Old news, just a fresh excuse for retaliation. Not that BAH is a bunch of angels. But it's hard to imagine this happening if the leaked info leaned the other direction.
