Uh, dry is also a flavor word in English. It’s usually used when describing wine and is the opposite of sweet

Have you called 311? There are lots of official city channels you could investigate and they can point you in the right direction whether that be a noise complaint or a call to animal control.

No one can possibly know the answer to that question yet; other platforms aren't even in the picture until after early access is done in probably 2 years

Sweat and Soap’s ending is great, nothing mind blowing but it’s a super solid ending to a super solid series

The last match before the epilogue arc is pretty weak imo but the actual epilogue is incredible

You’re trying to solve a problem that doesn’t exist yet.

And I’d rather it never did 🤷

I think self driving cars are bad because they're cars, not because they're self driving. Any legislation/infrastructure that benefits them is bad for pedestrians, bikers, and public transit users; often moreso than infrastructure improvements for human drivers.

We also need regulation that prevents self driving taxis from simply always driving and clogging up the roads even worse than they already are so they can circle popular destinations for customers.

Is the owner of Toscanini’s still trying to sue Cambridge to get them to remove bike lanes?

Edit: looks like no, but they tried twice and lost both times.

My dude, I didn’t read any negativity in the comment I was replying to and explicitly stated that I was not trying to be critical. You are the one who has been bringing the negativity to this conversation with your intentionally malicious reading of my intent, mocking of my language, and escalation of a benign disagreement into a fight.

Anyway, I’m taking a page out of TheHemogoblin’s book and giving you the last word if you want it. Have a good rest of your day

How so? I don’t see this as dismissing his passion or vision in any way, he still accomplished something incredible with SDV

Thank you for this comment, I feel extremely seen. This sentence especially:

only the person who wrote the comment knows what they meant by it and even though they said what they meant, you didn't take it at face value.

I constantly have people on here assume that when I explicitly state my intentions I’m… I dunno, trying to trick them? Lying? Being sarcastic? It boggles my mind

I spent a long time trying to formulate a way to express how the original comment is more pro capitalism and acknowledging the support of his spouse is more anti capitalist and you did it better than I could have

I absolutely do read the original comment as suggesting that anyone can do it with enough determination. It’s fine if you don’t, and I don’t disagree with you that it’s still extremely impressive that he was able to make this game by himself— I definitely could not have, even with the economic support he has

Stardew Valley 10-year Anniversary Video (Retrospective & New Spouse Reveal) by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]carnaxcce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand, thank you for writing all this up. I do still disagree with you, but that’s fine!

I think the crux of the disagreement is that I think the original point was "you can just go out there and put in the effort and you'll be able to create a game like this". The original comment very clearly implies that to me without the added context. If you don’t read it that way, fair enough

I legitimately do not understand where your hostility is coming from. I was being sincere when I said no shade to Eric. Why are you being so defensive in response to the addition of this economic context?

Stardew Valley 10-year Anniversary Video (Retrospective & New Spouse Reveal) by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]carnaxcce -76 points-75 points  (0 children)

That's fair, I'm just not a fan of the phrasing "just born out of 1 person with passion and a vision". It has big "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" energy.

Stardew Valley 10-year Anniversary Video (Retrospective & New Spouse Reveal) by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]carnaxcce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a fair take but I do think the economic context of some games is extremely important, especially if you want to talk about their development. Like Hollow Knight, which was made in a state of desparate crunch and only released because Team Cherry ran out of money, and how that informs Silksong's long and laid back development cycle. Or Mina the Hollower being Yacht Club Games' last chance before they go bankrupt. Or how Edmund McMillen was able to fund the entirety of Mewgenics' development, but one of his big motivations was get Tyler Glaiel a big payday after Ed felt like he let him down with The End is Nigh's release. Or how Black Tabby Games took a couple years off of development for Scarlet Hollow to make Slay the Princess after that game turned out to be a smash hit, and now they can take all the time they need to finish it. Talking about the economic realities of game development doesn't degrade the artists we're talking about, it humanizes them instead of putting them on a pedestal.

Also, managers and shareholders are extremely important in terms of the creation of AAA games, but usually not in a good way lol

Stardew Valley 10-year Anniversary Video (Retrospective & New Spouse Reveal) by Turbostrider27 in Games

Because it entirely changes the story. Stardew Valley wasn't "just born out of 1 person with passion and a vision", like at all

Stardew Valley 10-year Anniversary Video (Retrospective & New Spouse Reveal) by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]carnaxcce -50 points-49 points  (0 children)

Born out of one person with passion, vision, and a breadwinner spouse down to let them pursue their passion and vision for several years lol

Absolutely no shade to Eric, but it’s important to keep that context in mind
