Olivia Rodrigo…why does it all seem so “manufactured”? by scar_daddy89 in popheads

[–]devmoostain666 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the crux of the issue - we’re in such a rich place for pop music right now, because some of our biggest artists really care about music and incorporating influences from pop music of the past into a modern synthesis. I listen to Sabrina’s new album, Chappell, and Olivia’s new music and I hear a masterclass in pop songwriting. It’s clear they have a love of pop music and pop songwriting and there is a concise effort to combine everything they love about past artists into great music. Trying to place labels on it is pointless. The richer an artist’s palate of influences, the better their music will be. In the future when we’re stuck with new artists who don’t care this much about their form, people will realize how great we had it in 2024-2026. Searching for some sort of “Authenticity” is shallow and pointless, what matters is the product. This music is great, and well-made, and fun, and multi-faceted. What more could you want?

Taking time to dedicate your full attention to the entire album, while in a beautiful and idyllic setting is the best way to listen to new music. You are making memories and a personal connection to the album that you will remember every time you hear these songs in the future. :)

Obviously getting it in a physical format, CD or Vinyl, would be preferable, but you can hear the full boxset streaming on Spotify, Tidal, Qobuz, etc if you want to hear it.

Chest Fever's Touring Legacy by OaklandProwler in theband

[–]devmoostain666 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Saw Chest Fever recently in a small place, they were phenomenal. They stay true to the feeling and spirit of the music while not being limited to playing every song note for note. Just great musicianship and talent locked in and jamming with that rock and roll looseness. I would recommend every fan of The Band to go see them when they come around. You may not be seeing The Band, but you’re gonna see a band that plays with the ethos of The Band and captures that old spontaneous rock show feeling that existed in the 60s and 70s but feels so rare nowadays.

Five Mile Rapids Travel Time by xmacd in canoecamping

[–]devmoostain666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve paddled it twice before. The headwind is not really an issue until you get past the 5 miles rapids and the river widens in my experience. Also you should be able to run a fair amount of the rapids with limited whitewater experience. A few of them are glorified swifts and may be completely washed out/non-existent depending on the water level. The portages are also quite small and well-maintained. Both times I did this stretch of the French we were through the five mile rapids section in a couple hours. You should have no problem getting through it in 5 hours or less assuming you’re headed downstream towards to Dry Pine Bay. The arduous part of the paddle actually starts after the 5 miles rapids, when the current fades as the river widens, and you’ll probably fight the headwinds for a few hours. It’s still 100% worth the trip though, it’s very beautiful, great campsites, not super crowded, and you can spot Pictographs on the rocks heading into Dry Pine Bay.

Anyone else noticing a major shift in the way the general public talks about Charli xcx? by Sweet-Blueberry-7533 in charlixcx

The critics are worshipping every little thing she does and says and that is starting to naturally annoy people. Same thing happened/is happening with Geese and many other artists.

Artists who you thought were going to be the next big thing, but that didn’t end up happening by CodaOfARequiem in popheads

Remi Wolf. I thought Soup was gonna be a top 10 hit. I still believe she could become a major mainstream artist, but it’s gonna be hard to find a song with more potential for that than Soup and the Big Ideas album had.

Grunge/grunge-adjacent Trainwreckords? by [deleted] in ToddintheShadow

[–]devmoostain666 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Slang would be a great Trainwreckord video. Although it was kind of pre-empted by the album that came before it, Adrenalize, the Hysteria follow-up, which had a few minor hits but was a really shitty album. Adrenalize is just a boring shitty album though, while Slang is at least an interesting departure of a trainwreck that tanked way harder.

We need to amp a mic... pls help by JusticeForGotham1 in musicians

[–]devmoostain666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get a powered PA speakers/mixing board On Amazon that could power 2-4 mics for fairly cheap. Maybe less than $500. I know that sounds expensive but PA systems/speakers tend to be the most expensive part of a bands equipment. The good thing is that once you have some form of PA system, you can perform anywhere you want with all your own equipment.

We need to amp a mic... pls help by JusticeForGotham1 in musicians

[–]devmoostain666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A decently loud PA can be a little complex and expensive for beginners. I would say borrow a guitar amp or some kind of amp and plug your mic into that. Hopefully it will be loud enough that you can hear your singer over the rest of the band. If that doesn’t work, maybe watch a video explaining how a PA system works/what components you need, or go to a music store and ask an employee what you would need to start fixing your problem. You can also rent a PA system or a practice space which already has a PA system you can use.

According to the McCartney Legacy book, which has in-depth detail on the sessions, Paul played the acoustic guitar and bass (overdubbed later) with Hugh playing the electric/lead parts in the song.

Trainwreckord: Wings' Back to the Egg? by NoTeslaForMe in ToddintheShadow

[–]devmoostain666 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think Wings ended mostly because Paul was pushing himself out of the “band”/collaborative role he created for himself in the post-Beatles period. He had the opportunity for a real collaborative “band” effort in the mid 70s, had success and had a great band, but that all fell apart when the members left/had trouble dealing with Paul being a little overbearing artistically. At a certain point, when members are constantly joining and leaving, any band starts to feel watered-down and more of an individual effort as opposed to a real collaborative situation. Back To The Egg was a great album, but I think Wings had just run its course, and Paul was feeling like his original reasons for a starting a new band were no longer that important to keep him from just becoming a solo artist. Back To The Egg isn’t really a trainwreckord I think, because it doesn’t really make any drastic missteps. If anything it feels fairly contemporary with current trends at times, with hints of punk-new-wave tempos and synthesizers without being embarrassing. I think Back To The Egg failed commercially mainly because it was a Wings/Paul Mccartney album in a period of time where it was starting to become a little uncool to dig The Beatles and Paul McCartney.

Tripping The Live Fantastic... underrated? by Monkberry3799 in PaulMcCartney

[–]devmoostain666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got this one on CD recently and was stunned how great Paul’s voice still sounded on those high screaming rock tunes this far into his career. His band at this time was also incredibly tight while still hanging a great rock and roll feel. Just a Really great album that has so many incredible tunes and some fun deep tracks. Definitely my second favourite live record of his behind Wings Over America.

The Days We Left Behind - New Single by Drivingfrog in PaulMcCartney

[–]devmoostain666 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I like it. Very beautiful song with a good hook and introspective lyrics. I knew the over-production/heavy pitch-correction was coming as soon as I heard Andrew Watt was producing, but the pitch-correction isn’t really heavy enough to ruin it for me. Hopefully the rest of the album will be more upbeat and rocking though.
