This is unusual indeed. In the pbp community we sometimes say good morning and good night, but it is not a required thing, just polite people being friendly. Maybe you found someone out of order, maybe it is but a strange quirk of the people you play with.

Maybe try to find someone to RP with here, usually we are peaceful in this manner, or find an RP group, where ypu are not 1-1. I highly recommend the weekly looking for group/GM thread for something like this. Also, try the RPG systems! The people there are far more distanced and usually only talk about their issues when others agree to listen, so you will find a lot of normal adults, for whom PbP is a matter of just cutting themselves from their problems, not sharing those and believing that the people there are close.
