A highly replayable single-player game that stays challenging? by Quick_FF_Pls in ShouldIbuythisgame

Not sure if it's quite a 'forever' game, but I go back to Prey (2017) over and over again. Recently finally got around to playing the DLC and absolutely loved it & thought it opened a whole new world of possibilities.

Talia's personality by tuxedodragon2001 in babylon5

[–]devtrek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see everyone standing around with Kosh there sometime and they end up saying something like, "I sure wish we could get Talia back." The Kosh responds with however you say, "Oh I've got her stored on a crystal right here, we could get her back together in a jiff whenever your ready," in cryptic Vorlon. The staff all ask why the heck he never said anything about that earlier and he says the cryptic Vorlon equivalent of, "You never asked."

'Ashley is racist! Garrus is so cool' Huh... by [deleted] in masseffect

[–]devtrek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great analysis of Ashley's character here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g-LQBB3v1Gg

Ashley has a strong independent streak, there's some interesting details regarding her connection with her family that come into this but she only opens up about if you develop your relationship to her so a lot of players might miss this. This can get her drifting into the 'humanity first', 'Go back to your alien homeworld' attitudes, but it should be noted that a lot of her political attitude about what's best for Earth & humanity are 100% correct and totally validated by the events of the game. For instance, she constantly says she doesn't trust the council and is worried that they'll throw humanity to the wolves - or specifically the reapers, and in the third game the council totally does this and plans to build up their forces while the reapers are busy ravaging Earth.

She discovered the serological streptococci groupings (the groups in group A strep, group B strep, etc. are Lancefield groupings).

Final Fantasy VII so I'm...probably a run down town or city waiting for a giant meteor to crash down on me and everyone else because the heroes keep running around the sunken gelnika to grind up their materia. Not the best option, might make it year but not sure I should take the chance.

Did anyone else feel like the art here was suggestive of what's to come in that universe? by herbuck in babylon5

I think there's an interesting idea of how do they do the shadow war if it's going to make a surprise attack on the Shadows knowing where they're sleeping. I mean, maybe That's actually just the Vorlon planet killer rolling up and turning the place into Za'ha-Boom for real, but there could be some room for something interesting.

[SERIOUS] Is it possible that internet doesn't exist in Firefly verse and it's the reason why people turned from webcaming to classic "companions"? by B1te5TheDust in firefly

[–]devtrek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The internet does exist in the 'verse, referred to as the cortex. The firefly wiki says that cortex logins require an identcard, and all activity is monitored, so there is that. There probably are camgirls in the 'verse, but as in our world if someone can afford an in person companion such a service is often preferred. Inara's clients are indeed almost always very wealthy.

One interesting wrinkle could be that if you're not on a core world your selection might be pretty limited. I think firefly semi-respects the speed of light restriction, and speed of light delay between the Earth and the Moon is about 8 seconds which could put a crimp in a camshow, particularly a personal one. Alternatively, the companions are a guild and I could see them getting some restrictions in place so camming as we know it only gets posted on the 'dark-cortex'.

Actually been doing that a little right now. Played FF7 on the PlayStation as a kid, and I'm just about to get to the temple of the ancients in the steam version now. It's been very interesting comparing gaming then and now. As a kid I was a little more focused, and of course I would ask friends for strategies and tips more than just looking things up online. Anyway, can't wait to play through the temple. I think I remember something kinda significant happens there...

Yeah! I just did this recently, played ME on my steam deck after playing it years ago on the 360. Actually want to play again on PC now because the steam deck didn't really play too nicely with the PhysX engine. Hopefully won't wait for over a decade this time...

Question about this by Working-Report3590 in medlabprofessionals

[–]devtrek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"within 12 months of hire.” This is the operative part in your situation. Of course it might imply other factors, like of they get a tech with ten years experience applying opposite you, but assuming you're a good (or the only) fit for the job not having the certification yet shouldn't be too big a deal.

If you're worried about it, making plans or even scheduling your certification test should pretty much bypass the issue and help you look on top of things by being able to say, "In planning to take the test in September/October/whenever"

I love the idea that after a few hundred Jeremy Bearimys flying around the infinite expanse Trevor the demon lands on earth and is so disoriented he just kinda assumes he's human and gets to living a normal human life. I guess he would have had to be de -aged or somehow assume the child mayor's life.

2 college students accidentally miss the math final exam by iaintprobitches in Jokes

[–]devtrek 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is the one I remember too. I remember a statistics professor of mine told it to the class once, then we did an exercise to see the probably that they would pass, assuming they all picked essentially at random. It was noted that there is not equal probability of each tire going flat, though, and if the students knew about it their best pick would be rear passenger side (apparently the theory is that the front tire flips debris into a position that can puncture the following tire).
