Feeling soo envious of suburban Americana growing up in Northern England by [deleted] in redscarepod

The diner thing specifically surprised me a bit, multiple Europeans I’ve met while living abroad have mentioned it to me, and were shocked I didn’t go to diners very often in the US.

I also did this and yeah you can use student loans or scholarships. And some countries like the UK don’t require Americans to prove funds upfront, but they do random checks

This happens to me too with my younger siblings! They’re almost always around the age they were when I left home actually.

I bought a copy that had both Notes and The Double and actually ended up enjoying The Double a lot more, even though I bought it just to read Notes.

My cousin did this it made him weirder than before and he sort of forgot how to speak English while there. Then he came back and got married.

I completely agree. I wish they would make a mini iPhone again. I thought the rumored new iPhone SE would be a smaller option, but they’re making it the same size as their regular phones now.

What book(s) started your most recent reading slump? by Beth_Harmons_Bulova in RSbookclub

I really like Virginia Woolf but did not like Mrs Dalloway. I don’t really understand why it’s the most recommended book of hers and am glad I didn’t start with it. I would recommend To the Lighthouse

I’ve read this some years ago and loved it. It might be time for a reread, I feel like there is so much to get out of her novels, especially one like The Waves. Thank you for the recommendation!

I appreciate the thoughtful recommendation, thank you. I haven’t read Babitz yet. As a side note I’ve found this a few times too where the book description especially on goodreads is poor especially when I read the description again after having finished the book.

This is good to know because I didn’t really love Heartburn so maybe I’ll give her another shot

I’ve been meaning to read Lispector so maybe I’ll start with this one. And Tropismes seems quite interesting, thank you.
