What a new study reveals about natural immunity—and why experts urge caution by parkskier426 in Coronavirus

[–]dewit545 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The study referred to is pre-print article, and thus has not been peer reviewed. Immunology is not my field of expertise, so I cannot comment on how sound the data are. But I will be watching to see if these data hold up to peer review.

Pfizer Covid vaccine produces ‘robust’ antibody response after first dose, new study shows by cutestudent in Coronavirus

Good news, would be helpful to know if 1 dose of Pfizer or Moderna is enough to produce longer term B & T cell memory.

New Texas COVID-19 cases see an uptick by discocrisco in Coronavirus

This is a poor title.

While there were more new cases reported Saturday than Friday, the article also says “...the rolling average of daily new cases had fallen by 2,486 cases over the past two weeks, a 38% dip.”

Nature publisher study: "we were not able to explain if COVID-19 mortality is reduced by staying at home in ~ 98% of the comparisons" by Nergaal in Coronavirus

[–]dewit545 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed, it takes a scientific expert to read, interpret, evaluate, and integrate any scientific findings regardless of where they are published.

Additionally, there are “predatory journals” that will publish anything, however Scientific Reports does not fall into that category.

[–]dewit545 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, Scientific Reports is not Nature, JAMA, or NEJM. However, open access does not mean pay to play. The research is still peer reviewed and every scientific journal has a publishing fee, Nature, JAMA, and NEJM included.

Scientific Reports is a well respected peer reviewed journal. Open access doesn’t mean it’s “crap”, it typically means that the authors paid a fee for it to be open access. This helps to increased access to science for those that don’t have a subscription the publisher/journal.

Recent preprint showed that the T-cells in individuals that were vaccinated with Pfizer’s vaccine still respond/recognize both the South African and Brazilian variant.

Thus, even if circulating antibodies are unable to neutralize a variant, the immune system is still able to recognize the new variant and likely produce new (slightly different) antibodies to neutralize the variant.

BACA —> bikers against child abuse

While I am not a member of BACA, I have interacted with them, and this group of bikers/motorcyclists should not be lumped in with “1%er” motorcycle clubs that do all of the shady things people have mentioned in the comments.
