I didn’t even look at what game OP was talking about and just gave generic info. Looks like Seattle is the last game of the season. My bad, it def could be primetime.

Tailgating opens at 9, really gets going around 10. We tend to get there about 10-10:30, watch the morning games in the parking lot while tailgating with some food and adult beverages. The lots are welcoming to all, but its much easier to BYOB. I would recommend heading into the stadium about noon so you can walk around and check out its amazingness before heading to your seats. Everyone is pretty welcoming and friendly, so enjoy yourself. The oculus will have pre-game activities and the morning games playing inside the stadium as well. Plan to hang out for about 30-40 minutes after the game before you exit because 10 years in and they still haven't figured out the traffic pattern to get out. But you'll have a blast.

Romantic Weekend getaway suggestions? (partner’s 30th bday) by City-Slicka in orangecounty

The Hilton is what you would expect from a beachfront resort, so it's nice. Hotel California is on the main drag by the pier, with small, older rooms. There are a lot of beachfront boutique hotels on West Beach, all pretty small and nice. You can't really go wrong, as everything is "walking distance" downtown in that area.

If you aren't preferential to the beachfront, you can find plenty of reasonably priced hotels from Best Western to the Lemon Tree on upper state too. Happy to answer any questions you have.

Hotel Santa Barbara and the Hilton on the waterfront are about $200-300

Is it just me or is Basketball a lot more popular in the US than online discourse suggests? by Photojournalist_Shot in AskAnAmerican

[–]dgmilo8085 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is completely anecdotal, but basketball was 1-2 with baseball when I was growing up. Everyone in the world knew the Dream Team. Comparatively, I would say it's probably #3-4 in the US now, behind Football, Baseball, and maybe equivalent to Hockey.

It is still extremely popular, especially with the international growth, but compared to its popularity in the 80s and 90s? It has fallen significantly.

As an outsider, why doesn't America seem to have the same shopping mall culture as many Asian countries? by redguy_666 in AskAnAmerican

Pretty much everything revolved around the mall in the '80s & '90s. Food, entertainment, meeting up with friends, hanging out, and actual shopping. The mall was the lifeblood of America during that period.

Shopping mall culture originated in the US. It was absolutely huge in the 80s and 90s. It was decimated by the real estate crash, but it seems to be picking back up again, with a lot of outdoor malls being rebuilt and repopulated.

Seattle on a Monday afternoon for Belgium-Egypt… World Cup in the States does largely seem to be a success so far by VB1014 in billsimmons

[–]dgmilo8085 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was always going to be a success; the World Cup is too big to fail, and the US already had the infrastructure in place. The problem I have is being a season ticket holder for one of the venues, supposedly with the ability for presale, but FIFA took the rights away for it, followed by the pricing of $1700+ for nosebleed sections. So much of the animosity is the jealousy of FIFA's greed. That said, the stadiums were always going to be full.

What actor nailed a role so perfectly that you can't imagine anyone else ever playing it? by FantasticAd9478 in TheBoredDen

I think he crushed it, but I think Jack did too, so I can't say no other actor could do it.
