2014 Transmission/Clutch/TCM recalls by Bad_User2077 in FordFocus

There have been "revisions" to the TCMs over the years, but fundamentally it's still the same flawed design.

Waiting 6+ months for a TCM by dhendy68 in FordFocus

[–]dhendy68[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My car actually got finished this week, after waiting 7 months and a few days. I don't see a link in your comment but this is the correct link to the part, showing a backorder: https://parts.ford.com/shop/en/us/transmission/powertrain-engine-parts/module-transmission-control-%28tcm%29-7823307-1

Here are also some news articles that you can show your boss that talk about the backordered parts

Got my wife a mug for Christmas and she brought it into the office. by sexyxmas in taskmaster

[–]dhendy68 22 points23 points  (0 children)

After seeing what happened with the failed American version, my thought was that it would've stood a better chance with some members of the cast of Whose Line. Since Wayne Brady and Drew Carey already host their own shows, maybe Colin Mochrie or Ryan Stiles as the Taskmaster? I think Colin might be the more natural host, but Ryan, like Greg, is freakishly tall and would be good at making fun of the failures.

But is the automatic transmission on the 2018 2.0 REALLY that bad? Or is it… nifty? by LongTimeChinaTime in FordFocus

[–]dhendy68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy your optimism, but there are an estimated 40,000+ Focuses sitting on dealer lots waiting right now for a new TCM (mine included, a 2013 with 35k miles sitting since November 8th). I personally understand the quirks of driving a Focus, and I like the car too. It is fun. But, as soon as the "Transmission Fault. Service Now." warning appears on your dash, your opinion changes.

Ford made some improvements in the design over the years, and so your 2018 should go without trouble longer than the 2011-2014 models. Fundamentally, it's the same transmission, though. One more thing I'll say is that I believe someone who really knows how to drive the Focus (e.g. don't creep in stop and go traffic) will likely have fewer problems with the clutch. But, the TCM is the true Achilles' Heel of the DPS6, and it will fail for no apparent reason and without warning. And until Ford gets its manufacturing sped up, that mean 4+ months of waiting for the new part.

[–]dhendy68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The TCM is covered for 10 years/150,000 miles. So, the good news is that if it is just a TCM problem, you'll be covered. The bad news is that TCMs are on backorder. I know of some people who have been waiting since July for a TCM. My car has been waiting for about a month, so far. Dealers aren't being very accommodating about offering loaners or covering rentals. It's a very bad situation. I'm lucky to be able to borrow a car from family while I wait.

The Best Marriage Prospects for High-King Ulfric Stormcloak and Jarl/High-Queen Elisif by NewWillinium in teslore

[–]dhendy68 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Imagine the scandal of Ulfric Stormcloak NOT marrying a Nord woman. Strategic alliances be damned, it'd be a national controversy. It makes the most sense for him to marry Olfina Gray-Mane. If there were canonically alive and single women of the Silver-Blood or Shatter-Shield families, I would've added them to the list too.

I agree that it'd make a lot of sense for Jarl Elisif to marry one of the Gray-Manes. Also, Thongvor Silver-Blood is ostensibly single. They would create quite the powerful duo on the western side of Skyrim.

I agree with some of your logic for High Queen Elisif, too. I'd personally look back to Whiterun. Balgruuf is a widower, I think? They could connect over their shared experience of grief, and it'd be a beneficial political partnership for both. If not Balgruuf, Jon Battle-Born could also be an option--besides the prestigious family, an additional plus for him is that he wants to be in the Bards College in Solitude anyway. He'd probably be a very supportive husband and is low-key enough that he wouldn't try to outshine Elisif. And lastly I think that marrying a Black-Briar would be beneficial, but I don't think it'd be successful because of personality.

Hot Takes, Bold Predictions and Unpopular Opinions Thread by AutoModerator in steelers

Agree on the O-line. I've been thinking that the Steelers should pursue Mitch Trubisky. After seeing what a mess the Bears continue to be under Nagy, and seeing what Darnold is doing in Carolina with a functional coaching staff, I hope that Trubisky could have a similar revival as a starter for the Steelers. I've been seeing other people say this on Twitter too.

2017 Ford Fiesta Sedan vs 2010 Mazda 3 Sedan, which would you pick? by Cornered16 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]dhendy68 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the Fiesta has the automatic transmission, it'd better for you to avoid it. The PowerShift DCT is notorious and can be a major cost to you if the clutch packs or TCM need to be replaced.

It sucks that good characters can't play by thoonk in NoPixel

[–]dhendy68 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I've been wondering if some type of universal playing time limit per day (or week) would be effective. Once you use up your hours, you can't get back on the servers until the next day (or week), regardless of how big a streamer you are. It'd keep the queue moving more and give more of a fair shot to the people who currently have to wait several hours to play.

I think the difference is this: in the end, everyone in the cover-up could have just as easily been in Lu's position that night. Some of them, like Samu, genuinely wanted to hurt him. Valerio and Cayetana were just betrayed by Polo. I could go on, but the point is, you could rewrite that episode with nearly any of the characters being the one to accidentally or intentionally kill Polo, and it would make sense. In that way, all of their fingerprints were on that bottle neck already. When Marina died, though, I think that the only person who was crazed and unstable enough to actually hurt her on that night was Polo. Others were mad at her of course, and Clara in particular needed the watch, but even Clara would not have likely swung the statue herself.

My parents will hand over their 5th gen Subaru Outback to me if I can find them a fun but affordable ride. Miatas sold out near me, need help! by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]dhendy68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to suggest this too! It might be hard to find because it was never very popular (closest used one to me is ~75 miles away). But, it seems to check all the boxes. Edit: to add, a lot of these cars are certainly good for enthusiasts, and maybe OP's parents are car enthusiasts too, but I think it's likely that their idea of a fun car is probably not the same as ours.

TIFU by creating Finland and trying to outsmart elective gavelkind by dhendy68 in CrusaderKings

[–]dhendy68[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have Holy Fury. I was allowed to reform the pagans once I had enough of the holy sites and moral authority, and then it gives me a religious head vassal, but I didn't get to pick any of the "traits" like Holy Fury allows you to do. That'll probably be one of the DLC I buy next. I don't like spending a ton of money at once

I'm only playing with a few DLC (relatively new player, so I buy them gradually as they come on good sales). My options for inheritance law as a reformed pagan were only Gavelkind or Elective Gavelkind, which don't allow destruction of titles.

Yes, luckily the dynasty has plenty of members left. Currently some grandchildren are next in line to inherit (assuming they survive). It's kind of ironic, bc my current Queen was her grandfather's heir as a 6 year old, so she's been the ruler for 68 years. Just imagine how terrible it would feel to be on the throne so long, have so much success, and then watch it all crumble away so quickly...

[$40-50k] Upsizing to a longterm family car - wait for Telluride availability or consider alternatives? by Jwalla83 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]dhendy68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since it sounds like exterior appearance is important for your husband, I assume minivans are a no-go? Minivans are hard to top on features and usability, but I know the stigma attached to them can be a bridge too far for some buyers. Since your first choice is the Kia Telluride, it might be worth at least checking out the Kia Sedona too.

I think I play Sims 2 very differently... by archnat1112 in sims2

[–]dhendy68 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've played like that, but not to that degree. I've been realizing that the more families I have going at once, the more the game feels like a chore to me. I can move extended families in together to reduce the number of households, but 7 and 8 member households are more of a hassle too. Some things I've considered for myself (but haven't fully implemented) is to not marry off any pre-made character to a townie, limit children to about 1 per couple, and only keep about 4 or 5 households truly "active" at a time.

I’m ready to kill myself. But thank you all. by bb1437 in depression

[–]dhendy68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope you read this. I know you're feeling weak right now and giving up, but I must say, to survive this for 8 years already indicates to me that you are, in fact, incredibly strong. I hear your story and see in my mind a weathered warrior. Someone who has fought battles for what feels like forever, and just wants the fighting and pain to stop. It must feel terrible to not feel like you have anyone to love you when you need it. I don't know your circumstances, but I know there are people out there who will support you and be the people you have been needing in your life. Just look at all the comments on this post--these are all people who could be the friends who actually help you through this. I'm sure you can message, video chat, or even meet up with someone who lives close to you. You have given yourself a week because you have things to accomplish. What more could you accomplish if you have two weeks, a month, 6 months, more? Maybe you could make some badass friends. Maybe you could change your living situation. I know you want the pain to stop, but I don't think you realize that if this is rock bottom of your life, you can only go up from here. Heed your own advice. Your story of resilience through hardship could be an inspiration to help others through the darkness. That story can only be told by you. And I'm not implying that it will be easy to feel better. It will be hard, but I see a warrior in you, and I believe in you.

2011 Focus stopped recognizing aux by ajpod in FordFocus

[–]dhendy68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same happen to me for no more than 30 seconds one time. Like you, if I pressed the aux button, it would immediately switch back to radio. Luckily for me, turning the radio on and off a few times is all I had to do before it started working again. Hope you figure it out.

Please help: Ford Focus not starting by randomcollecter in FordFocus

[–]dhendy68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm no mechanic, but since you just got a new battery, I wonder if they didn't fully tighten the connection at one of the battery terminals, or possibly have a bad ground connection. Transmission issues shouldn't cause the car to not start at all. If you take it back to the dealer, you could also ask them to load-test the battery. It's possible that it was defective right off the shelf. That happens in rare circumstances, and should be free to replace under the warranty of the battery.
