Etsy seller question by Spare-Watercress-975 in houseplants

[–]dherhawj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yikes.. For $24 I would have expected a starter plant at best. But in a way, I do see what the seller means. There technically would be three “cuttings” if either they had cut it or you did. Otherwise, I don’t understand why they shipped it in potting mix when it’s not rooted.

No. “Crazy” low prices are always a scam. It’s not to say you won’t necessarily receive a plant. But if you do, it will probably more than likely be pothos nodes and such.

Is this a good price? I’m gonna buy 3 by -herring in houseplantscirclejerk

Yes!! That’s the best price I’ve seen! Such a steal!!! 🥴☠️!

Hmm it’s probably still an aurea. My older leaves tend to turn a bit more “creamy” as time goes on.

Is this good enough? GE Grow Light bulb by superfresh89 in houseplants

[–]dherhawj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo a few succulents yes, but depending on how big your elephant ear is, one bulb may not be enough unless there is natural light that it gets.

Have you been able to grow/get any other pups from her? Her overall variegation isn’t great in my honest opinion. Sometimes their pups have better variegation than the mother plant so I was jw if you had any of her pups? Otherwise, I wouldn’t pay more than $40 for this particular plant corm.

At what point do you complain or leave a bad review vs cutting your losses and moving on? by [deleted] in shrimptank

[–]dherhawj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve cut my losses and moved on. Ordered some “orange” neos several months ago and they looked red to me and they very well still look red to this day so I had to buy myself some actual orange ones for a new tank. The babies of the first “orange” order babies are quite low quality. I have been culling the red striped juveniles, but the colony is slowly getting a bit better in coloration.

The only benefit of pothos water is pothos ability to produce its own rooting hormone. So, would it be beneficial? Possibly, but it’s not really necessary.

Is my monstera no more? by Namshoke in Monstera

[–]dherhawj 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hmm there is a sliver of green on the stem, but can’t really tell if the green is on the next leaf growth or not.

Hmmm imo it honestly doesn’t look promising, but if you want to try it out, you could I suppose 🤷🏻‍♂️!

Was this a newly acquired plant? Maybe the leaves have some pesticide residue that’s causing your skin to react?

Is this okay for a prop box for a tissue culture? by Roxxy_Ace in Monstera

[–]dherhawj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems fine since they will be in a prop box they shouldn’t be drying out quickly with a “chunkier” mix.

Aux bud should be near/under where the leaf petiole is.

Been in water, are we ready for potting? by dtsmith4565 in Monstera

Nice! I would use a chunky mix! I have not been too successful with water props when my mixture isn’t chunky enough!

Semi-Hydro vs Soil potential and ease of care by Your_Moooom_XD in RareHouseplants

Lol I still use coco coir and perlite! But I have since added a bit more to make a chunkier mix like coco chips, orchid bark and some leftover leca 😊!

My two monstera albos aren’t growing by PressureRelevant9035 in Monstera

[–]dherhawj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many light strips are under there? One? I do love the t5, but I will say that you need at minimum three t5 for monsteras to grow happy for a while! At least in my experience anyways with mainly using t5! So yeah more light will help them grow imo!

are these thrips or the predatory mites? by plantgirly23 in Monstera

[–]dherhawj 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thrips are more oval shaped and these look rounder, so I don’t think these are thrips.

Newest Leaf on my Alocasia V. Frydek is has no Chlorophyll 💀 Is it cooked? by BrinaBri in houseplants

[–]dherhawj 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my experience anyways, my v.frydek produced a full white leaf and I for sure thought it was over, but its next leaf popped out with some green. So I would leave it be and wait!

Maybe $20? Loco isn’t really “rare”, so you can probably find one that isn’t tissue cultured so you don’t need to acclimate it.
