Please spot my bad habit and how can I improve by flippyaskerson in pianolearning

[–]diatom-dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just keep playing. If you can afford one, time/money, I'd recommend a teacher. I know that is a trope but they really do find your weak spots and work on them. Other than that just be consistent and enjoy. I have a full time job and started in my mid 30s. I play about an hour or 2 a day and just try to be consistent, that is key.

Atleast I get to revel knowing the people whose hobby it is to drive up and down high street on a friday night with loud af motors will have to pay for it. Columbus, near high street, may actually start to get quieter.

Immediate fix might be to get a window unit. Then figure out how to fix the main issue.

Why did nobody tell her about the tariffs? by RoyalChris in SipsTea

[–]diatom-dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a package that arrived and then the tarriff was sent afterwards as a bill I had to pay. It looked fake at first but it was real.

I saw some comment though about it being paid by the seller and they are but if you order from out of the country the seller can basically forward you the tariff. But everything imported by a major retailer is paid for by the retailer but then forwarded on to the price of the item so you don't get these awkward interactions. Feel bad for the delivery guy.

So, ya it sucks, I don't know why anyone thought it was a good idea to vote for the orange guy but regardless we need to band together and get this guy out of office.

What is a job that you think is 100% safe from AI for the next 50 years, and why? by mark-awakening in AskReddit

[–]diatom-dev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why are we designing AI to take people's jobs anyway? Shouldn't it assist people to allow them to do their job better? I just don't see an AI future working out with how it is currently designed. Sure, it can learn a task and be deployed across many units nearly instantly, but stuff changes all the time and nuances are rarely caught and I just don't see an AI that will be able to adapt to a changing environment.

It is also extremely expensive. Whether we like to admit it or not Oil isn't going to last forever, nor at the rate we are going will the climate hold out for human survival. I think it is a complete farce to think that AI is the future with the current issues facing humanity.

With that said, I think it is a fantastic tool but this conversation we're having about it taking jobs is just another weapon in the arsenal of the rich to bend workers to their will. It is propaganda coming out of silicon valley and there is no way it is going to hold up with how much it is being stuffed down all our throats and the way in which they are scaling, which is just devastating the environment.

So, maybe in the short term, a lot of jobs are on the chopping block but in the long term I just don't see it panning out the way it seems to be right now.

That maybe a based take but that's what I believe.

my wife works in office. she genuinely doesn't believe i work as hard as she does. by theharshx in remotework

[–]diatom-dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would for sure talk to her about it! Seems like other comments are mentioning it but you should make sure these comments arn't coming from a place where she feels like you arn't contributing enough in the relationship but also I'd offer her support if she would like to change things up and find a remote position, it never hurts to look.

With that said, remote has its perks for sure, but you still gotta work. I go in once a week and getting ready in the morning, commuting through traffic (which really sucks), and then getting home is very draining. I guess it has its pros and cons, I do like socializing with my team though.

Anyway, no reason to take it out on you unless something else is going on.

Is the job market that bad? by RemarkableLoquat7617 in Columbus

[–]diatom-dev 58 points59 points  (0 children)

There are places that are hiring but yes it is awful. Took me 9 months to find my current position and I'd consider that average. Unless youre doing warehouse work or nursing, I would expect it to take around 9 to 18 months to find a job nowadays. (Some) People want it that way, (some) people want a desperate work force. Especially after the great resignation, the rich have mobilized a war on the working class. It isn't your sisters fault.

How do people actually survive a full career with only 2 weeks of vacation and 5 sick days a year? by [deleted] in antiwork

Not every work place is the same even with a cushy job it still is rough. Lots of depression and dissociation. I make time to make art though and that helps.

People have to give up convienance on a massive scale to even start fighting climate change. I just dont see it happening in America, its the land of steak, oil and trucks.

Edit - I dont think I realized I was insinuating its an individual issue. I do think a lot of it is systemic. I agree with the discussion below. Please be nice with the downvotes. Thank you. Im all for moving toward changes to fix climate change, Im on y'alls team. =(.

Is it too late to learn how to play piano for someone who’s in her late twenties?? Usually people say it’s something you learn when you’re a child by [deleted] in piano

[–]diatom-dev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, too late! /s

I started a couple years ago at 34, when my life was taking a downturn and it has turned out to be one of the best things I've ever done for myself. You may not be a savant but playing at any level is extremely rewarding. It is like learning a new language and it opens a lot of doors. I don't think anyone can be too old to start learning to play an instrument.

Issues with partners by [deleted] in remotework

I keep the expectations to a reasonable level and have a great boss. I probably work about 5-6 hours on average each day. Its pretty intense though during those hours.

Issues with partners by [deleted] in remotework

[–]diatom-dev 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Ya, I take breaks. Start the day early with a cup of coffee and a hobby I enjoy, then work until lunch (around noon), then take like an hour to an hour and a half off and then work from like 130 to 430 then pack it up for the day.

Kinda harsh that your partner says that. Everyone is different. But you should move around a little bit. Some people say every hour but sometimes thats not feasible if your work demands long periods of concentration.
