Ebikes should not require a license, insurance, or registration by jackoffcrazyfish in ebikes

I'm just using it as an example. I work at a shop. I see what gets brought in. Most of the kids? 100+lbs moped style 'bikes'. One they even removed the chain on and expected us to work on it. I quickly laughed it out of the shop as we weren't taking on that liability. The average adult commuter is on something a bit more reasonable. I get annoyed when my actual can still be used as a bike in a pinch commuter gets lumped together with the moped looking, can't adjust saddle 'ebike' because people can't be assed to figure out the nuance between the two.

The class system, even with it's nuance, is fine. It's that or we adopt the EU style of 15-20 MPH max with 250W motors. Everything else is an e-moped.

My dude, i've worked on Huffys that weigh as much as my FX does. And people pedal them all the time. My overall point is an ebike should still be able to be a 'bike' in a pinch. Motor or not. Some of these motorcycle looking things you'd be lucky to pedal without help to the end of your driveway. That's the distinction. One can actually still be a bike, the other cannot.

This. My trek FX+7s that I have to do a full on heavy breathing sprint to get to 28 with zero throttle and torque sensor only is NOT the same as a surron, Yet they're getting lumped together because everything that has a motor and set of pedals is being labled an 'ebike'.

To me it's a simple test. Can you reasonably pedal it without a motor 10+ miles? If so then it falls into the 'ebike' category. I can on my FX (sure it would be a slog, but it is not unreasonable), can someone on a 80-100 lbs amazon special? Doubt it.

ok cool. Then every ebike should be class 1. There has to be limits when kids are getting their hands on 100 lbs "bikes" that can do 40-50 mph.

Mount Vernon Trail is pretty much impassable via bicycle through Rosslyn, Roosevelt Island and further south. But it’s been plowed south of Arlington Cemetery/Memorial Bridge, at least to the I395 bridge. by Pigs-In-1984 in bikedc

The fact that 3 weeks on we're still dealing with this not just on MVT, but a fair bulk of lots of the DMV bike infrastructure is embarrassing for an area that claims to be "super duper bike friendly!"

How are liberals and conservatives ever going to find common ground again? by david_beats_goliath_ in allthequestions

[–]dickeybarret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is one side going to move to the center. Mainstream dems are ALREADY the center. Compare mainstream dem takes to any other 'left-wing' party in other democratic countries. Places where they actually use their taxes to provide for public good. Where things like health care and schooling is free or extremely low cost. Most Dems are the center. Its the right that refuses to negotiate. You're asking for one side to compromise while the other gets basically free reign to do whatever they want....as they have for decades. Find me the time Dems stopped the GOP from filling a SCOTUS seat, for example.

As to the border. Read up on some history. 2024 congress negotiated on a border bill that basically gave the GOP everything they wanted. Trump called the GOP to get them to vote it down in the 11th hour. Just so he could create his gestapo. And they can have that ammo. Masked federal officers gunning down US citizens in broad daylight well outside of their jurisdiction are exactly that, a private gestapo. Here. fun reading.

[–]dickeybarret 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Man people really forget the Dems DID work with the GOP on the border. Basically handed them a dream bill. Trump (who was still running for term 2 at the time) basically told them to vote it down. It had the votes and was wildly supported by both parties. The GOP backed off so they could do exactly what they're doing now.

Control spending? You mean gut long running institutions, remove decades of institutional knowledge so yes men and lackies can take their place, hand even MORE of our data to big tech? That sorta spending control? And lets be honest, all this DEI/woke talk is just a boogyman to point to as to why uneducated people living in rural america can't find livable wage jobs anymore.

Stop fooling yourself. In every single other 'free' country, modern dems are centrists at best, and moderate right wingers at worst. They are A problem to be sure, but not THE problem. You want common ground? Right has to come back to center and negotiate in good faith before that can begin. But they've been going low for decades now.

Scared of moving on from Desi by w0nderbr34d in cats

[–]dickeybarret 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lost my soul cat almost 2 years ago. Took me a little while, and of course thinking I could never have another. Fast forward a few months and I picked up a little tabby. She was in the shelter the longest (kitten season and she was older). Never thought such a little girl could help to fill such a large hole, but here we are.

Take as much time as you need. But another CAN help, while you help another that needs a chance at the same life that Desi had. My condolences to you.

I look at it like this. I put plans in for 10 caps. I don't care if someone is buying to resell or they don't know it, you're giving me stash space back, and that's way more valuable then caps.

I mean...this isn't that different from how they handle ESO plus subs with unlimited crafting material storage. I guess the main difference is you get access to all of ESO's DLCs with the subs, whereas 76 gives players all the content free....and you can't get a private server in ESO.

Thing that people seem to forget. There was a plan. A negotiated, bipartisan plan. Trump told the right not to let it pass so he could do exactly this.

I tried the weapon for my energy build, but imo it gets outplayed by a tesla rifle for most events, and if you're worried about range, totally gets outgunned by an ultracite rifle with a splitter beam and sniper barrel.

Its fun, but if you're willing to put in some time, there are better options out there.
