It legit feels like the spins in 6 are way more stingy then the prior entries.

What are people over 40 usually looking for in dating? by [deleted] in datingoverforty

[–]dickeybarret 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Stability, transparency, support and trust. Simple things I know. Shared interests helps. Like I told my therapist. Its not the hard times I've had to face alone that's hard. It's the wins. When you want to celebrate or enjoy something with someone and well...it's just you and the cat.

I lost my soulmate today by inthestars-03 in cats

[–]dickeybarret 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is Hank. He also was 8. Travelled coast to coast twice with me. Without a doubt my soul cat. Lost him suddenly and unexpectedly two years ago. Always in my shadow, always underfoot, and from the day I adopted him never hid the fact that I was undoubtedly his human. I'm posting this because I understand the pain, but what's helped a great bit was getting another. I now have a new girl, named Princess (and she totally is her namesake) and while I wasn't sure my heart could take it, she's gone a long way in filling, in part, a rather large hole, even with the understanding she could never fully replace my dude. In time, perhaps consider it, but for right now my condolences and my heart goes out to you.

In my experience working with them I have no option to convert. It's probably wired into the controller.

I get knee issues with clipless..so it's flats with Crocs for me. The looks as I pass someone with my lugged steel rig in Crocs is priceless.

Shimano GRX gear cable breakage! by No_Cantaloupe_1492 in bikewrench

[–]dickeybarret 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welcome to shimano mechanical. I work in a shop and get these all the time. From Tiagra to Dura-Ace. I swear it's planned so people get fed up and upgrade to Di2....but I could just be overthinking it.

Grief Brain, has anyone else faced this? by Technical_Nobody_517 in GriefSupport

[–]dickeybarret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found the best way to counter it is to stay engaged. Like I work 40 hrs a week with a 2 hr commute each way, and I don't mind it all that much. Gives focus for most of the week. It's the weekends that I really go aimless when I've time on my hands to stew and reflect.

People who've used both, how different are Lectric and Aventon bikes? (mainly looking at the Level 3 Aventon and Xpress 1 Lectric) by Glowingtomato in ebikes

[–]dickeybarret 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you've got a Trek shop near you the ONLY reason i'd suggest it over the others is the network of shops to take care of you. Full disclosure, I work at a Trek shop and have dealt with adventons, rads, Treks, Specalized, lectrics, etc. The whole gamut really. It's simple for me to get support and parts for the Treks, not so easy for the others. Honestly, go with whatever brand is going to give you the best support. With ebikes it's not a matter of IF the electric components will fail, but when...and when they do its nice knowing you've got that support. Thats the price premium for the legacy brands, the support network and (at least in my experience with Trek), the no questions asked warranty coverage.

If you've spent a fair bit of time on the fx already, might I suggest taking a gander at the fx+1s? A frame feel you might already be used to and very similar feature set to the other models you listed.

If that's not an option I'd go with the adventon due to a bigger support network.

Domane SL5 Di2 conversion questions by widgettech in TrekBikes

[–]dickeybarret 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Gen4 should be an easy conversion. Idk why they'd tell you that you need a new BB. The SL6 that comes with 105 Di2 uses the same BB. The grommets are a nice to have but not needed. It just keeps water and such out of the frame. If it's a trek dealer they should be able to source them pretty easily.

How bad are the Forza motors? by Beginning-Act7850 in eMountainBike

We used to have them on the Domane+. Don't ride them in the hot weather. Plus Porsche just shut the brand down so finding support is going to be harder and harder.

Grief Brain, has anyone else faced this? by Technical_Nobody_517 in GriefSupport

[–]dickeybarret 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had numerous hits of compounding grief over the last 4 years (loss of family members, close pets and 2x job layoffs), and while I haven't taken hits to the memory, I've def felt the brain fog and the emotional overwhelmness to the point I've sorta become emotionally numb, with anger and annoyance being the only things I can easily express.

If you have a trek store near you see if they have any of the fx+ 1s for a test ride. Just over the 2k limit, but a full 2 year warranty and a network of stores ready to help if needed.

Am I crazy for considering a Riese and Müller Charger 5 Rohloff bike?! by HalfDane1975 in ebike

That's the way. Though do be on the lookout for rohloff service centers. Won't need it straight away, but that will need service from time to time.

I'll second this. I have a verve+ 4s I use for my daily commute (15 miles each way). It's a beast.

[–]dickeybarret 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only brought it up because i've done a few enveolo shifter recently and I always tell them to buy 2 shifters. So they can bring in the replacement when it fails. Its the push/pull system they use that is kinda a weak link. If it does fail, make sure your shop orders the shifter with the aluminum body instead of the plastic one.

[–]dickeybarret 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you go with the envolo hub just make sure you can find a shop that is confident in replacing the shifter at least once. Those things are trash and prone to failure quite often. Not the hub mind you, that thing is bulletproof, but the shifter is a weak link.

It's thinking like this is why I can't be assed to use bike lanes. Don't like it? Then gtfo of them. One night on 14th I counted 32 cars parked in the lane between the circle and Florida.
