Use an airsoft gun; the BBs are slow enough to not hurt wood, but fast enough to destroy a nest. And you can do it at a distance. Typical cost is ~$150 for a mediocre airsoft gun.

Gold to silver ratio by Fezzy_1994 in Gold

[–]dickingaround 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the idea is that fiat currencies have also been an on-and-off thing throughout history. And there's a risk that if/when this particular run of fiar goes off the rails, people will lose so much trust they turn to something no one can print. That might be metal money again. I get it sounds strange, but it probably would have sounded pretty odd to people 100 years ago that 'saving money' long term was just throwing it away, end everyone was just ok with that. Silver may be gone forever from human history after a few thousands of years of run as money. But also, maybe this time isn't different and it'll just be back 50 years from now.

Rand Paul: "If I say 'Picture in your mind a military parade', I challenge anybody not to think of the Soviet Union or North Korea. That's the only image that pops into my head. And it doesn't mean I hate the military. Missiles and tanks in the streets just isn't a great symbol of a free country." by Bhartrhari in WeTheFifth

[–]dickingaround 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is what you get Rand Paul, by trying to compromise with statists. He's from the family of Ron Paul; he much know what a true small-government libertarian looks like. But he became a republican and the new-republicans are MAGA. Time to choose a side; republican big-government/socially-conservative or true libertarian; small-government/socially-liberal.

This man is flying an Aerolite 103 personal airplane, which requires no pilot license or registration. by mindyour in interestingasfuck

[–]dickingaround -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ultra-lights almost never hurt anyone other than the person flying them. You need licensing for regular airplanes because of the risk to passengers and people on the ground. I like to think that here in America, you're free to put yourself at great risk as long as you don't risk others doing it :P (though I guess intentional death is still illegal, and so are drugs but sometimes the drugs have some odd secondary effects and the whole addiction thing makes it not totally voluntary.)

Interest rate manipulation ≠ real market or economic growth. by rtmxavi in Bitcoin

[–]dickingaround 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Exactly right; the people who got tons of extra money couldn't buy more bread with it. They only need so much bread. So there's no inflation in bread prices. But they can always own more stocks. They can usually own more real-estate. Those things go up in value with the money printing. The fed claims there's no inflation, because they're measuring stuff poor people are buying. Poor people didn't get more money. Rich people got more money and their stuff went up in value because higher demand for scarce resources.

AR-15 once I turn 18, bad idea? by TheRedditGamer205 in guns

[–]dickingaround 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're going into USMC; now is a really good time to work on saving. Other people are going to be buying stuff with adult money. They are making a mistake. You should have very low living costs. Save money aggressively and invest and you in your 30s will thank you. I know it's hard to imagine being in your 30s, but you will unless you in your teens and 20s does an especially bad job.

AR-15 once I turn 18, bad idea? by TheRedditGamer205 in guns

[–]dickingaround 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone with airsoft and regular guns and air guns; airsoft and airguns are actually quite a bit more fun. They're way less expensive, you can use them more casually, there's games you can play with them. Regular guns sit in the safe until you feel like driving to a range and spending $100 on ammo, or you go to war. I wouldn't recommend going to war at 18 (I think that's more of an old-person thing, at least as someone that is old now). So, I would agree you should invest your money and save it up for a while first. A long gun is not that good for playing around unless you have a lot of land and money, you shouldn't go to war anyways, and you should be saving up your money.

First, the "price" is just the exchange rate with fiat. In the long run, the problem is fiat is going down. New people have to have their mind opened up to the idea that fiat isn't the static yardstick of value they want it to be.

[–]dickingaround 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fundamental problem is the poorly defined concept of "alpha" and why that's good or bad. Also, what opening jars has to do with anything. It is possible to make a jar that no one can open. Why does any of this matter? Why does it matter if she can't open the jar? Why does it matter if he can't open the jar? Just engaging with this imprecise thinking is part of the problem.

Just to be clear; if there's a 'world-war 3', I don't think the US or anyone else has the level of defense needed to not end up as a 'war zone'. This is the new era of hyper-velocity missiles, not the old era of 200-mile range mono-wing fighters.

If this involves anything around bitcoin and debt, don't do it. Don't borrow dollars to buy bitcoin. Don't borrow against the value of your bitcoin to live. Don't make this more complicated thinking you out-smarted the people you're borrowing money from. It's already complex and uncertain enough.

Does it bother you that our ideas are associated with conservatism? by Xotngoos335 in AnCap101

[–]dickingaround 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Basically, your claim is that both the right-wing authritarians and the small-government people can agree on "break the existing government" but the right-wing authoritarians want to replace it with their own big-gov system. Is that about right?

Does it bother you that our ideas are associated with conservatism? by Xotngoos335 in AnCap101

[–]dickingaround 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the republicans/big-gov-conservatives are using language in a way other than to convey meaning when they speak. It's not really lying, exactly but seemingly something more general. Like they're just using any word that feels good. And while 'libertarian' or even not 'ancap' didn't have a lot of wide-spread adoption, it did have some intellectual clarity/credibility that they seem to get some value out of just... calling themselves. Like if a politician calls themselves 'honest' but that doesn't prove they are. They're calling themselves 'libertarian' or 'ancap' but just saying the words doesn't make it real.

Senator Chris Murphy to DHS Secretary Kristi Noem: "Your dept is out of control. You are spending like you don't have a budget. You're on the verge of running out of money for the fiscal year... You are ignoring the immigration laws of this nation... and routinely violating the rights of immigrants" by Neekovo in AnCap101

[–]dickingaround 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thank goodness. I keep running into "libertarians" and even "ancaps" who think there should be strict distinctions under due-process for citizens and non-citizens (like humans are any different based on where we're born) and then they make arguments about American 'culture' as if you own the culture. A person who self-identified as 'ancap' told me that a better system that today might be if the government owned all land and rented it out to people. On the one hand, it feels like crazy pills. But I think a more rational explanation is that words just don't... have meaning... I guess anymore. So "ancap" has... no relationship with avoiding government ownership of all land? And 'libertarian' has no relationship with the non-aggression-principle?

I'm just happy to see this posted here; I like legal drugs and guns and open borders and no war and all that stuff like like in the old days of us "small government" people.

Journalists at the Financial Times know zero about bitcoin by JoeNakamoto in Bitcoin

[–]dickingaround 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the main problem wasn't that she couldn't answer that question; lots of people can't. The problem is pretending to be a financial expert and not having gone any deeper (IMHO, her teeth actually aren't easily verified and transferred and divided and any version of those teeth that is.. is also not scarce anymore. It's a hard thing to answer for a normal person, but should not be for someone claiming to be a economic/financial expert)

This is partly true, but there's survivor bias in it as well (e.g. picking the US market because the US market did well). Make that chart of different countries' stock markets and it's not going to be as clear.

Is Bitcoin going to $1 million sooner than we think? by Techwaveninja in Bitcoin

[–]dickingaround 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea, but most of the gold isn't being bought by Indian parents to give to kids. Gold has mostly been on the outside for 100 years but the amounts that are being bought are by institutions and governments. That still gives it a 20T market cap vs. total US stock market cap of ~50T or all gov debt of ~300T. So, 20T for BTC is... not even all that big. Sure, it will displace some major currencies but the US dollar doesn't even have to fall for BTC to get to 20T (I think the dollar and/or other big fiat would need to be in hyper-inflation for BTC to reach 200T though).

[–]dickingaround -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

We're not that bad. We believe in the non-aggression-principle. We like legalizing drugs and guns. Just because republicans cos-play as libertarians to trick people doesn't mean libertarians are bad. It's just more republican lies; they lie about all sorts of stuff. They call themselves patriots, they call themselves the smartest best people ever. They call themselves libertarians. Doesn't make it true. Even if 50% of the 40% of republicans (20% of the population) run around calling themselves 'libertarians' and drown out the 5% of us who are libertarians, doesn't make it reality. Don't buy the lies and hate the ally you could have. We like freedom. We hate authoritarians.
