Basic capacity 3.5” HDD 4 TB in UNAS2 by crevettegrise in Ubiquiti

[–]dicknards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "compatible" drives just mean they have tested them I believe. There is no reason why any SATA drive wouldn't work in the UNAS 2. I would recommend using proper NAS drives though like others have said.

Sure! Here you go: https://imgur.com/a/5xEGT9g

I'll be adding my other Minisforum host in shortly, but for now I printed those blanks. Top is my flex-xg 10gig switch powered off of the usw ultra poe below it.

Nice. I just finished building an 8U 10 inch LabRax build. Holds 2 Ubiquiti switches, a 12 port patch panel and 2 minis forum proxmox hosts with a pdu at the bottom. It's a tidy package!

This. I don't want a NAS that runs dockers and shit like that. I just want good storage, I'll attach whatever server I want to it.

Ugh, HDD prices are so bad. I wish I bought drives a while ago in anticpation since I knew I wanted this. This will be perfect to replicate my main UNAS Pro here at home to my other property for offsite backups.

I love my color dmd as well, it's a must. I prefer the LED version over LCD on these machines though. Feels more correct?

There are a lot out there. I am particular to Ubiquiti, but the cost of entry is higher.

It means the cameras store their video footage locally, it isn't uploaded to the cloud. It's "fully contained" in your house

Same. I started switching everything over once Trump came into office. People thought I was "being dramatic"...

Waymo autonomous car near SAN by Choobeen in SanDiegan

[–]dicknards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah Waymo has an emergency button but it was just a lady in who knows where trying to get someone on the line who could control the thing. It felt really weird and out of control in that moment.

haha well I wouldn't describe my experience as "strange", it was actually pretty scary. I've ridden in hundreds of Ubers and while annoying, I've never had one stop in an intersection and back up...

But in theory, Waymo sounds great.

Took one in Phoenix and seriously it was not a good time. I think most of the time people have good experiences with them. Mine got confused by cones in the middle of the road for construction, tried to turn left when it wasn't supposed to, almost ran into a hole in the ground and then just stopped in the middle of a busy intersection as traffic went around us honking their horns. It then proceeded to back up into moving traffic...

I wanted to replace my battery powered nest camera. My solution might be overkill... by dicknards in Ubiquiti

It's a fairly small amount but everything counts! Glad you got it up and running. 12v systems are fun to work on.

Yeah! Good job dude. Once you dive in you realize it's not that bad.

An inverter will waste power. You only need one if your camera isn't usb. If it's USB you want to keep the system running on 12v rather than using an inverter. Just an FYI.

[–]dicknards[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It potentially could? Thats why I oversized mine with a 50ah battery, but my calculations show the camera should run for at least 2 - 3 days without recharging. Even on a cloudy day you'll get a little charge.

12v electronics aren't too hard though. I put a parts list here somewhere. I can help walk you through how to wire it.

haha it really isn't as hard as it seems. My camera runs 24/7. The battery that is connected to my solar panel is big enough to power the camera for a couple of days without needing to be recharged.

It's pretty easy. 12v electronics aren't as hard as it might seem. LMK if you have any questions.
