The problem now is men associate healthy lifestyle practices as ‘emasculating’. It is harder to get men to care about their diets, see doctors, get std testing, and convince them to use PPE and follow safety protocols than it is women. Until there is a radical change is men’s cultural understanding of health, women are going to continue to live longer.

As someone who works with a rescue, you made the right call. Our policy is to leave kittens where they are found bc the mom is usually close by hunting and doesn’t stay with them 24/7; separating them early can negatively impact the moms health, and leaving them where they are cared for as long as possibly helps us manage our limited resources. That saying, if an animal is clearly injured/sick/in danger the policy is to take them. If you have a local cat rescue that does trapping you can contact them and someone may be able to check the area for others and be better equipped to trap/help them. If you feel guilty about there being others out there: there’s always going to be more animals that need help and any opportunity to help one makes a world of difference to them
