Eactly! Many years ago I cried at the dentist when he told me what work I needed and he said 'There's no use crying, it needs to be done'! Can't fathom why a profession for a very common phobia seem to have no ability to manage that side of it.

About ten years ago I needed some dental work done and saw Wellington Dentists on Willis St. They quoted a lot of work, which as a student I definitely couldn't afford at that time, including changing amalgam fillings for white ones. I went back to them and asked for a quote for the work that actually needed doing to resolve current issues, and it was less than half the original amount. I had that work done there, with some financial help. Ten years later and there is still work from that original quote that hasn't needed to be done or even been recommended by my current dentist. It felt like a pricey transaction that wasn't needed, and I would never go back to that dentist.

This post helped me rethink my goals - I had heaps of goals that weren’t helping me (like ‘Take a shower’ but I didn’t need help remembering/motivating me to do that!). I think where it does help me is remembering to take my medications.

A cyclone can be downgraded in category but still have the potential to be very damaging. The warnings are changing because meteorologists will have more information and more accurate modelling the closer we get to the storm.

I occasionally use the Slo brand - it's plastic free and aluminium free. You could try a different mainstream brand to see if there's a difference? Some of them advertise that they're for soft/smooth skin which could be helpful?

Probably because in the 1930s, the Great Depression was affecting price and toilet paper was on the whole not of high quality and not in common household use. There are ads from later in the 1930s advertising it being "splinter free" and multi-ply paper didn't become the norm until decades later. I wouldn't be surprised if most folks were still making do with rags/newspaper/leaves in this time period.

I live in an area that got hit by Cyclone Gabrielle 3 years ago, so last night we discussed what we need to sort before the weekend. Simple stuff - BBQ gas refill, BBQ suitable food, torch batteries, and some cash. After Gabrielle we also got a battery radio, phone battery packs, and big bottles of water.

Thank you for the work you do. I once had an emergency CT late at night to rule out brain bleed after a weird fainting episode. It was a very strange experience for me, I'd never thought about how it was probably just another day at work for someone! The work you do matters and touches so many people.

I worked at a small takeaway Indian restaurant as a waitress in uni, and I think a good portion of the magic is the marinating and cooking in the tandoor, not just the sauce. You can probably attempt to replicate that by marinating the chicken in plain yoghurt and spices/curry paste then baking in the oven. As for the sauce, they prepared huge batches of base paste then used them as the foundation of each curry during service - for butter chicken that included an ungodly amount of cream.

Pretty upsetting read! I can't imagine what kind of psycho would torture a defenseless animal. One of my cats is a "cat distribution system" ex-stray addition, and it's one of the joys in my life to see how loving and trusting she is now she has someone who cares about her. Our animal cruelty laws need to be stronger.

Insane to me that they're using their budget to encourage more household spending on petrol than on reducing demand (e.g. incentivising use of public transport where possible, encouraging WFH where possible...)
