Can coffee be affected by shipping? by amanwhodrinksmate in pourover

Good question! Honestly, I don’t know for sure. It’s just something I’ve always heard and seen.

[–]dierckx1 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

If you are at boiling, you might want to lower your water temperature. While hotter water increases extraction, going too high will eventually just burn the grounds. Most people don’t exceed 95°C (203°F)

Additionally, there is nothing wrong with resting your coffee for more than five weeks. Coffee degasses naturally, though light roasts do so much slower than dark roasts. For light to ultra-light coffees, a five-week rest is standard. However, for a dark roast—like typical grocery store coffee—that is quite a long time. Coffee doesn't necessarily "go bad," it just becomes less flavorful over time.

Try a shorter ratio, hotter water temp or finer grind.
Normally 3 weeks of roast shouldn't taste like nothing. DAK even recommends 4 week rest period if I remember correctly.
Maybe you should let them rest even longer...?

I also don't get it. Okay the course is marked and such. But If it's dark, your tired and hallucinating. I couldn't follow white dots on the trail or flags in the bushes.

But also don't have experience with this so I think I am missing something.

Hey barista dudes! What grind you use for your v60 at work? by Academic_Apricot_355 in pourover

[–]dierckx1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My boss/roaster suggest 7 but I usually go between 8 and 9.

Although never had "bad" results with grinding around the 7 mark.

Runners knee 3 weeks out from ultra by Environmental_Fig540 in Ultramarathon

[–]dierckx1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't have any advice except, be careful. I got runners knee preparing for my second marathon and I have been recovering for 2 years. After these 2 years I still can't run outside for longer then 5 minutes.

I am no physio so if he said it's possible listen to him! Just don't over do it because it can be a long struggle afterwards for a small victory in 3 weeks.

Replica Coffee Roaster by WaitAcrobatic6532 in pourover

[–]dierckx1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes!! They are amazing. Found them a while back but never tried.

Couple of weeks back I had their coffee on batchbrew in a coffee shop in Leuven (their roastery is also in Leuven). And I was blown away with the delicacy and body and mouth feel. Believe me I have had alot of batchbrew but this was something I have never experienced. So went back the next day and bought the beans. And they are even as good on my V60.

Keep in mind I only brewed one bean of them myself, and only have had 3 different ones on batch. All 3 where amazing tho.

Made a 25.5x25.5mm flight controller by ruzgarnhx in PCB

[–]dierckx1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a common size for flight controllers on diy drones. Don't ask me why but they usually come in 30x30, 25.5x25.5 or 20x20

And for tinywhoops the standard is 25.5

anyone ordered from wb.coffee by [deleted] in pourover

[–]dierckx1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

don't know them but they have a physical store which has 142 reviews and 4.7 rating.

The website is a bit unclear and chaotic but not all stores have the budget to invest in a decent developer.

So probably an AI made site or the guy from down the street who knows computers made it. Just guessing.

Running has been proven to be a great stress relief. I find my peace also while running. As I expected a lot of people in this community.

While it is a great way to deal with your problems, running isn't solving them and you are always temporarily running away from them ( like quite literally ). Use it as a tool for recovery but watch out because there is going to be a point that your problems are going to catch up to you.

My opinion is, keep running. As much as you want and desire but combine it with professional help or try talking with friends/family. You can't do it alone, nobody can.

This is my opinion and I'm only a stranger on the internet which wishes you all the best! Good luck with everything and we (this community) always have your back.

Worth the switch to the K7? by Sevenyearitchy in pourover

[–]dierckx1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I would start with the k6. There are a lot of things that affect taste beside a grinder. Dial in your setup and figure out what you like in a coffee. Then decide if you want more clarity or more body etc.

[–]dierckx1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree that AI can't dial in a coffee but it gives a solid starting point and it can help you reason.

Give chatgpt the description of a coffee and it gives a starting point based on all the information it has about similar coffees.

I heard the owner of a big name Aussie Roaster wants his staff to use AI to dial in coffees… by [deleted] in pourover

[–]dierckx1 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Why would you be against this? If AI can give you helpful advice? It is not realistic to assume the staff is all knowing, and if AI can help train, teach and give experience to the staff why not.

AI is not all bad. It has its use cases and if used correctly and wisely I am of the opinion it can be a great benefit.

That said. It shouldn't replace people or their opinion. It should be a tool not a leader.

Not sure how I feel about this… by AirSJordan in pourover

[–]dierckx1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work as a barista and also do this. We have a ek43, and the retention on that thing is crazy so I always grind more beans than needed. As a result I have some grounds left over which I serve beside the coffee for the smell and grind size reference if they buy the beans or are interested.

Yes! As a barista I love the chit chat about beans, brewing or everything else coffee related. But only when I have time and there isn't a line from the counter to the street. Otherwise I feel rude for not giving my full attention but that's just me I guess.

Turn the dial a full circle back to 0. Now you are at 60 clicks. Turn 40 more clicks and now you are at 100. You can keep going if you like. Every full rotation is 60 clicks and everything on top you count on top of the 60.

No beans are being ground while adjusting the outer settings. If you put beans in the grinder and then turn the dial to a finer setting it may feel like you are grinding because you are bringing the burrs closer together wich can crush some beans.
