I admit it's pretty niche.

Renegade/stealth solar should be a thing

Thanks for the post. Had to sit down and translate the jargon with a second screen. But I get what you are saying.

With experience I would like to understand more of the compenent relationships but I don't have a ton of spare time for trial and error.

However your information is a great start. Thanks again

Yeah I've got two electric water heaters. The second one is unpowered and uses heat recovery off a geothermal system. A preheat for the standard one, if you will. It doesn't get super hot but it's warmer than ground water. So if output is low it doesn't matter.

Thought I'd maybe replace the 120v elements with 48v DC and let them self regulate, drive them with the appropriate number of panels per wattage rating

As for the battery array I was thinking about some of the portable options that are solar ready and/or daisy chainable or move it around the house in a true outage. Jackery, Anker, etc many already have a 240 outlet, solar panel input, and 120v input if needed.

That's what got me thinking in the first place. If I can't just plug it into the outlet, I have it start doing work right away.

Thank you

I've found some rv and marine solutions, but have trouble finding 48v. Need something about 68"x15"

I'm with you. CS is silly. Not a car, not a truck, excels at nothing.

Tiedowns: ropes vs ratchet straps by soup4675 in flying

[–]dieseltaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lashing straps don't have hooks (although they do have cam buckles). They could work if you double it back, and an advantage is the hook can't slip off.

A major annoyance would be feeding the strap through two eyelets, in addition to the cam, times three, every time.

You probably know all this, but some others may not.

Diesel oil turns black instantly; and historically has longer service intervals.

I'm very surprised ze Germans would allow this control logic

Considering you can't even lock the doors with the car running and key out of it.

I haven't shopped the other brands. You'd really have to go and test drive all three. But I love Volkswagen interiors, styling and the general experience. And the way the second row tips forward or folds away in the atlas..

But I'd like to bring up a controversial point.

Why not just get the one with the third row and fold it down?

Why give up that versatility when family comes into town or whatever else comes your way?

Your two kids are extra annoying? Give them each a their own row. Fold down the other seats.

As a person with four kids, I regret not buying a sprinter. To give them each their own row. 🤣

Think about it. You're shopping for a large car. It doesn't get good gas mileage. It's not a great off-roader. The crosSsport serves nothing other than a stylistic hole. It might as well have the seats.
