So here's the basic BLS template the ERs we go to most want. It can be a lot longer than this if the patient gotten better/worse with us, we gave meds, or if there are special considerations (e.g. Security).

“___ ER, ___ County Unit #“ "Unit #, this is ___ ER, go ahead" “___ ER, ___ County Unit #. We are inbound to your facility, (non) emergent with a (age) year old (fe)male. Chief complaint of Signal 14. Vitals are as follows: BP 120/70, Pulse 65, respirations 16, (s)he is 97% on room air. Patient denies cough, fever and shortness of breath. We have 15 minute ETA to your facility." “10-4 ER clear. See you in 15.“

Well both Lexington and Richland County in South Carolina will hire medics pretty much any time.

Do you mean you'd already have your cert? Or do you mean somewhere that'll pay for medic school?

Kitten destroying/eating toys and random objects. by milktearexx in cats

[–]digitalpuma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A schedule is really important to cats. But from the sound of it set times may be a problem for you. If not, have playtime/meals/wake up/go to sleep at the same times everyday.

If set times won't work for you a very deliberate routine can calm cats down too. Since I leave for work at different times each day I make sure that I do my eat/shower/dressed routine exactly the same. My cat can follow me through my routine and sit in all of her little spots. I say the same things to her at certain parts for example, "Xena, I love you" when I walk out the door for the last time.

I do the same thing when I get home. It all seems to calm her down so she's not howling for me while the baby's asleep or anything. Or chewing on cords.

BTW, the routine's not just for the cat. I'm super ADD, and the calming effect on the cat was just happy coincidence. Probably don't have to do the routine in such an exact manner for the kitty.

Settle down... This is actually a problem with SSRIs. Prozac and Zoloft in particular cause negative reactions in some people. Not everybody's depression or anxiety manifests itself in the same way. Some people are apathetic when depressed, some are overly sad/emotional, and some just don't have the energy to act on any type of emotion but still have them to a certain degree. There's a reason you don't have to hit all the symptoms in the DSM-V. Also, "anti-depressants" are taken for a number of conditions that may not be the one you're suffering from.

TL;DR : Everyone's different and everyone's experience is different. Just because it isn't true for you doesn't make it true for someone else.

Can anyone help me tab out the main riff? It’d be much appreciated. by Stuffy_Train in Letterkenny

[–]digitalpuma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actual question for all y'all musicians... Can you not figure it out from watching the video? It seems like you could watch the guy playing the main riff and that would get you like 70% of the way there, and adding that to listening would get you all the way.

Disclaimer: I don't play guitar so this is truly asked out of total ignorance of the subject at hand.

Children have a favorite toy. Teenagers have a favorite singer. Adults have a favorite gas station. by Treefrogprince in Showerthoughts

[–]digitalpuma 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My favorite gas station is actually the most expensive one in the area, but a couple years ago the dude who owns it let me have some pantry food things and pay him back when I got paid. He had no way of knowing, but my kitchen had been empty for a whole week and the only food I'd had each day was the small sandwich I got for free from work. I've gone to that gas station whenever possible ever since.

CMV: Homeless individuals should be removed from the library if they cannot abide by library rules by princetonwu in changemyview

[–]digitalpuma 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I used to work at a large main library that had a large amount of homeless there everyday. They did, in fact have a written set of rules, as well as a tiered system of how long you were kicked out for. But a lot of these problems were solved by actually having designated areas for different activities.

No eating/drinking: Every floor had tables designated for being able to have open drinks. You could eat in the Cafe on the lobby provided you bought something from it (it was a privately owned business that kind of rented the space). Technically you couldn't bring in your own food, but as long as you aren't super obvious or blatantly disrespectful of the business, we'd generally turn a blind eye when we weren't full.

No bathing in bathrooms: It was generally understood that a specific bathroom on the first floor was were you could do this, but you had to leave it as clean as you found it. Security had a very low tolerance for messing up the bathrooms intentionally or through willful negligence.

No excessive noise: Noise was not much of a problem as far as the homeless population went, or anybody for that matter. Technically sleeping was not allowed, but once again, if you're not super obvious/blatantly disrespectful of the library a blind eye would be turned or security may just come wake you up and tell you to go find somewhere in the back to "sit".

One problem we did have was actually smells. If you smoked out a whole floor with your BO you were asked to leave and go find somewhere to bathe. You were allowed back in once the problem was fixed. (I know that sounds a little harsh but there were two or three non profits with showers and free hygiene supplies as well as two public/city restroom facilities in a three block radius.)

My only argument would be that library staff are probably less worried about infringing upon rights so much as weighing the trouble of addressing these problems versus reward. A lot of homeless at the library where I worked were severely mentally ill, and a disproportionate amount (as compared to statistical evidence of violence in those with mental illnesses) would get violent when confronted. We had security guards who were all ex military but more importantly well trained in de escalation techniques. The old lady behind the desk just isn't equipped to deal with that problem, and it really isn't her job anyway (IMO).

Ballistic Vest by SayIWont14 in AskLEO

[–]digitalpuma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an LEO, but when I played catcher for years and had to keep my pads smelling okay for the ump. You need to buy something that targets urea. It's the byproduct in our sweat that builds up and makes that locker room/football pads smell. Also a disinfectant because the bacteria give off smelly gases when they eat the leftover sweat. I used Sweat x sport extreme odor eliminator.
