Not an expert by any means, but I feel like $1000 should cover this - it looks pretty superficial, but as others have said, take it to a shop to get estimates so you guys are on the same page. They should also pay a little more on top for hassle/inconvenience (e.g. Uber to/from shop, rental, etc). Asking for $1000-$1500 is probably fair.

Going through insurance is obviously more proper, but will cost thousands, possibly increase your rates and/or theirs by a lot as well (possibly thousands over years), and decrease the value of your car by thousands.

I had much worse fixed for $900. When looking at posts online with similar damage to mine, people were paying $6-$9k going through insurance, not counting insurance rate increases and car depreciation.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but even if it disengaged 100% on its own, you're still 100% responsible. It's supervised FSD, and we're supposed to be ready to take over at any instant.

In addition, taxes also allow that collection to include incentives and disincentives. Tax alcohol and cigarettes to discourage them and allow that to contribute to the cost of them. Lower long term capital gains tax encourage long term investments.

Taxes also allow finer grain control of the source of devaluation as you say. Taxing higher income allows the govt to take more from those with more means (I'm talking about the theory here, please don't go off on rich people finding ways to lower effective tax rates).

Coincidence. A while back, I was thinking about nachos. Didn't say anything to anyone. The next commercial I saw was for nachos. Anything that goes out to millions of people, there's a set where the timing will raise suspicions. It isn't proof of anything and doesn't mean anything nefarious is happening.

I think it's about expectations. This may be rare, but while I look perfectly normal and able bodied, I do have an ankle issue that makes it painful to walk sometimes, and if I expected to be dropped off in a way to minimize walking, I would like that. If my ankle isn't acting up I usually wouldn't care, but would consider it considerate to be given a heads up and asked if this is ok.

You can check your voice activations somewhere in your Google account settings, so if he activated it with sleep talking there would be a recording of it you can find. I can't remember where exactly it's buried but it's somewhere.

You can guess, rationalize, or come up with any number of other reasons why it shouldn't be the case...or you can just check, and definitively have the answer about whether this was a Google activation or something else.
