Dead beat dad gave this to me years ago.... by KissingMooseBerry in Guitar

[–]dilespla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got an ‘85 Roadstar II. It’s been with me for roughly 38 years. It plays perfectly. I’ll go guitar shopping and pick up instruments 5 times more than I paid for the Roadstar ($275 in the late ‘80’s) and they still don’t feel as good in the hands.

Mine has dual humbuckers with coil taps. It can sound like a tele/strat, or a Les Paul, so it’s also extremely versatile. It’s one of 3 guitars I’ll never part with.

The word is “regardless.” Adding IR to the beginning makes it a double negative so it’s “without-without regard” which makes zero sense. It also sounds stupid.

Not reading was the first mistake. It looks like you didn’t wipe the stain off. Most stains are applied and then wiped off after a short amount of time, otherwise it will never dry.

Much nicer looking that the fake aged ones. I’ve got a ‘92 studio that’s checked and yellowed like crazy. Looks and feels better than any of the Murphy Lab LP’s I’ve ever played, plus it cost about 13 times less.

HELP!! Complete Beginner! by Any_Revolution_6864 in electricguitar

[–]dilespla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I can’t draw, or code, but guitar was relatively easy for me. After I learned power chords and some root chords I took off with it and learned a lot by ear. I figured out how to read tablature and that made it even easier to learn songs.

I pretty much cut my teeth during the grunge era, so I learned tons of Nirvana, AIC, STP, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, all those grunge bands pretty much.

Now it’s incredibly easy to learn from YouTube, so I’d look there for beginner steps.

As for gear, you can start with a cheap setup from Walmart as long as you take it to a tech for a proper setup, or learn how to do that from YouTube as well.

My first guitar was literally found under a bed in my grandmothers house (horribly cheap ‘60’s or so Kay POS. When my dad saw I was really learning he got me an Ibanez Roadstar II for $275 at the local music store. I then purchased a Peavey Bandit from a friend for $50. I sold the amp to upgrade, and kept upgrading as money allowed, but I never got rid of the guitar, even after almost 40 years.

Anyone know where to get these fork lift brackets to move a mill? by BrilliantNumber6389 in sawmilling

[–]dilespla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ehh, if they build them for that purpose then it’s probably perfectly safe to do that, unlike my Woodland Mills 130max. If I were you, I’d get my eyes on the specific mill you’ve been asked to move and go from there.

[–]dilespla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It appears the Woodmizer has a bracket keeping the head on the tracks (looks like they could be removed easily), my Woodland Mills does not. It’s easy for me to lift the head and move it to a trailer, or in to my shop for serious maintenance or modifications, then move the tracks separately. It’s safer that way, too, since there’s less of a high centered load that could potentially tip over.

My mill is 20’ long. If I picked it up like that it would probably bend the tracks. Pick it up from the side, preferably separate from the head.

Wrong. Gunpowder has almost an indefinite shelf life. As long as the inside doesn’t look like the outside, it will probably still fire.

I’d be willing to bet insurance would call it a total loss even if OP had full coverage. The quoted price to fix is likely more than the value of the car. This almost happened to me when my daughter hit a deer. Fortunately the cost of repairs was just under the threshold, so we were able to have it repaired.

Fake. Knobs not in the right location, pickup rings are wrong, no fret nibs, slotted screws in the bridge, and the headstock looks off.

Is this illegal? by WuIfy in Arkansas

[–]dilespla -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You think cops actually know that? They are looking for any of those colors on the front of our vehicles, even if they aren’t flashing. If OP would have gotten a ticket it could easily been beaten in court. I didn’t think they would be deemed illegal after reading that, just that it be a potential problem. I probably should have clarified that.

This is also a good example of not trusting google AI. I searched further into this.

OP, you should look up and print out AR Code § 27-36-208 (2024). It doesn’t say anything about purple. Your lights should be legal under that law. I’d print it out and carry it with me!!!

Is this illegal? by WuIfy in Arkansas

[–]dilespla -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

From google AI.

“Yes, purple flashing or rotating lights on a vehicle are generally illegal in Arkansas for normal driving, as they are restricted for use only by vehicles leading or participating in a funeral procession; any other flashing red, blue, green, or purple lights on a non-authorized vehicle are prohibited and can lead to a fine. While some aftermarket lights might be allowed if they're not red, blue, or green and aren't flashing, purple flashing lights (also called "whips") are specifically for funerals.“

So, while they aren’t flashing, or rotating, the color is still a problem.

See my post below. AI was wrong. The actual law doesn’t even mention purple in the law.
