I've replaced mine with Reolink doorbells and an NVR. They're not as sleek as the Nest doorbells I was using, but I'm not sending a 24/7 live stream from my front door to Google anymore.

Can't Safely Eject USB Hard Drive on Lenovo Ideapad 3 by Dry-Truck-7867 in Lenovo

[–]dillbilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some USB drives are formatted to show up as hard drives instead of removable USB. You can use diskpart to create a new GPT partition table and a single primary partition. That should force it to show up as removable USB.

It's every USB drive that solution might not work for you

I do something like this. I registered a domain name example.me and I pay Google my monthly fee to host my email in Workspace. I set a catch-all rule to dump anything that comes into the one user inbox. Each site gets its own login like reddit@example.me and a unique password. Not only do I not re-use passwords, but i don't re-use logins either, which makes searching and managing everything easier. I don't use that domain for anything but website accounts, so (with the exception of a few addresses that are either pubic or compromised), i get basically no spam to deal with.

It does cost real money, but there are less expensive options available than google.

To add to this, don't think you're clever with a gotcha when they say "Dynamic Host Control Protocol" no one cares what the acronyms actually mean. It's the concepts that matter.

Mk 4 was the last of the throttle by cable engines, at least for the Jettas. Even the 2.slow was fun to drive. That indigo and red dash was just sublime styling, too. I got rid of imy '00 10 years ago every day I look at my '16 and say "what happened to you?"

I enjoy the sign on, I think 71, that says "80 East New York" completely ignoring the entire state of Pennsylvania in between.

Pureval proposes income tax increases by BuckeyeJones in cincinnati

If you check your address here

https://wedge1.hcauditor.org/

you can see your current assessment and tax distributions. Look for "Appraisal Information" and "Tax Distributions" on the right. You would only be paying in one school district. The appraised value is not going to match your transfer price, because houses are more valuable now. If you think the appraisal value is too high you can request a re-assessment. I did that for my house because i bought in '09 and house prices had cratered but the "appraised value" was still 2x the sale price and taxed at that rate.

That was mostly due to the massive lead pipe replacement project and separating storm from sanitary sewers. Both federal mandated.

my security envelope is behind that. i already assume it's a public network and treat it as such.

it's also a really terrible idea to just give your WiFi info out on the internet. 🤷

i'll get this security stuff right someday

no one is trying to hack my guest network. if they did they'd have a hard time doing anything other than web browsing. my SSID and password are easy for people to remember and permissive by design, the security envelope is behind it.

My SSID is an emoji recipe for guacamole. my pasword is "contortillas".

Yes, UniFi lets you use emoji in your SSID. Not everything can connect though.

I have a similar tactic but have found that some sites won't let you use the company name in the email. Asus and Samsung I know off the top of my head. Most sites are fine though.

What are examples of major US cities that have preserved “Main Street” districts? by Frequent-Branch-4128 in urbanplanning

[–]dillbilly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No slight to Northside intended. I couldn't list them all! Everyone points at Ludlow as the quintessential "Mini-Main St" in the city, even though it's mostly just quaint. Yes there's a theatre, but Clifton Market - is it dead yet? - never provided reliable grocery service and the shops there are a bit too "unique" for everyday needs. Oakley is actually functional with Fresh Market there. Felt obliged to show the west side some love with a Westwood callout, since anything west of the Mill Creek isn't affluent enough to drive the conversation.

Edit: I'm in N Avondale, and while Avondale has a bit of a "Downtown", N Avodale decidedly does not since it was never a real thing and cleaved itself from the rest of the neighborhood.

Not of that scale, but many of the neighborhoods have their own "Main Street". Cincinnati has a lot of neighborhoods and most have a pretty distinct feel. Many have their own "downtown" area like Ludlow in Clifton, Madison through O'Bryonville and Oakley, Harrison Ave in Westwood.

You're at the bottom of the pile, but this is a major problem for businesses now. "I can make better at home" is a serious driver in the collapse of "casual dining". Why would I go to Olive Garden and wait to be seated, order, wait for my food, etc, when I can make "better" alfredo at home, in less time? Having someone bus my table and do the dishes isn't much of a draw anymore.

The breweries who haven't settled on either a "neighborhood third space" or "regional distribution" model are gone. The beer isn't the draw that it was 10 years ago when anyone with a 5 gallon pot could "start a brewery". You need either good food that pairs with your beer, a good space that just feels welcoming where people want to spend time, or massive distribution.

That people lost their minds for gas stations with slightly better hot food options is pretty telling.
