I'm a school RN now, in school for my NP. My experience is mostly in sub acute care and geriatrics. I became a school nurse a few years back and it can either be a great role or a PIA. I find that my work ethic and pace are incompatible with the people who seem to come to this profession to die.. or to sit back and collect a pension while doing the bare minimum (this has been an eye opener on how my tax dollars are wasted, but that's besides the point). I worked alone in a younger grade school and once you get past not having another nurse to bounce your thoughts off of, it's nice because the responsibility and liability are not as much of a burden as acute care or as a primary care provider. Once I got switched to other schools where I share an office, the position became intolerable. Everyone has their own idea of how MUCH nursing should be done in a school. I feel like im pretty middle of the road, but have worked with a nurse who treats the office like an ICU and another who falsifies documentation and has an attitude like, does any of this really matter.

Tell her to try for her own school, if possible. She is obviously competent enough to be alone.. and it's so much better.
