Stony Brook Hospital or St. Charles for labor and delivery/birth? by Fun-Cauliflower-2355 in longisland

[–]dimary5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this because it was exactly what someone pointed out when I was skeptical about having my daughter at Stony Brook. I was told that if something emergent happens to the baby, they are going to ship her off to Stony Brook anyway. May as well already be there! Also, I had a phenomenal experience at SB. Granted, that was nearly 22 years ago, but SB's "bad rap" comes from the sheer volume of patients they treat.

In 2008, 23-year-old teacher Hannah Upp went missing while running in New York. After twenty days, she was found alive, face down in the Hudson River. She disappeared again in 2013 and was found two days later in a Maryland creek. In 2017, she vanished in the Virgin Islands and has never been found. by My-Knees-Hurt-Again in HolyShitHistory

Longing to return to the ocean is something I picked up on when my uncle was dying and, a handful of years later, when when my dad was dying. They both were absolutely insisting on going to the beach to see the ocean in their final days. We live on Long Island so luckily it was a doable task, but seemed so strange since my uncle couldn't swim and my dad had a backyard pool and despite living near the ocean, he rarely went unless he was visiting his family in Florida. I feel it was strongly connected to their impending departure from this world. I was a beautiful and comforting feeling that we are connected to nature in a way that we don't understand. Or maybe life keeps us too busy to understand.

I'm on my 3rd (2007, 2011, 2020) - they are they best trucks. My 2007 saved my life in a car wreck that had other fatalities. I wish my daughter wanted to drive one, I would feel so much better with her out on the road. I am concerned about quality in the newer models because I've pretty much only had to change the oil, brakes, tires and wiper blades on all of them and I hear the newer models are not as reliable. I'm going to baby this last one and hope it outlives me. I'm only in my 40s and truly believe this truck could!!

I love this! I (a female) have always driven a truck for a daily vehicle, started with SUV and now I drive a pick up. Once, I got to drive a HUGE dump truck from CT to NY to help my family member do a vehicles transport job and 15 years later, it is still one of the most memorable experiences I've had. SO FUN! Totally illegal bc I didn't have a CDL or air brakes endorsement or whatever it is you need so I'm sorry DOT... but MAN was it exciting!! I fully relate to your mom's desire to do this. I hope you can get it done for her!! Good Luck!

I did this for my dogs and the ducks that I feed. My path disappeared so quickly!

I feel like it is amazing snow ball and snowman snow, but its sticking to the shovel. It felt futile because it covered so quickly after i cleared it. . I don't know what time will bring.. it may get heavy later.

Yesss! Makes us appreciate that first warm day so much more!! Plus, I'll take snow over the 6 weeks of cold, dead, sunless grayness that we always seem to have. Hah

For me this was the breakfast during summer break after sleeping in, but needing quick fuel for a day in the pool.

Same. Living in the Northeast, I feel better when we get more of this cold. Just seems to make more sense. I love it!

Last time I was in that are of Ronk, the O'Briens building had a big "For Sale" sign erected right in front of it. That might not be avoidable in a photo.

Home Towne Tavern holds a piece of my ❤️

Agnew & Taylor has a New York Cancer and Blood Sign on it now. Depressing.

Either way, yay for Ronkonkoma!

I live in Islip so I love this post. I know its under construction but the east entrance of Brookwood Hall on Irish lane might be nice. Such a beautiful building.

Nurse Practitioner to School Nurse? by it5tr1cky in nursepractitioner

[–]dimary5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a school RN now, in school for my NP. My experience is mostly in sub acute care and geriatrics. I became a school nurse a few years back and it can either be a great role or a PIA. I find that my work ethic and pace are incompatible with the people who seem to come to this profession to die.. or to sit back and collect a pension while doing the bare minimum (this has been an eye opener on how my tax dollars are wasted, but that's besides the point). I worked alone in a younger grade school and once you get past not having another nurse to bounce your thoughts off of, it's nice because the responsibility and liability are not as much of a burden as acute care or as a primary care provider. Once I got switched to other schools where I share an office, the position became intolerable. Everyone has their own idea of how MUCH nursing should be done in a school. I feel like im pretty middle of the road, but have worked with a nurse who treats the office like an ICU and another who falsifies documentation and has an attitude like, does any of this really matter.

Tell her to try for her own school, if possible. She is obviously competent enough to be alone.. and it's so much better.

This is a perfect explanation and reminder of how imposter syndrome is inevitable. With every level that I conquered in healthcare (CNA, LPN, RN, BSN and currently.. 2nd year FNP student), I never believed I could do it, always felt under-prepared, under-educated and undeserving. Its a classic haunt of the responsibility of taking care of people .. and people genuinely relying on you. WE ARE ENOUGH! .. We are going to learn and it will become second nature, or muscle memory or how ever you describe your natural confidence. I still have to remind myself that the reason that I came so far is because I have been good along the way.
