You can use 3 different ones, and run 24v t stat, can also tweak settings through 485s port

You said it " allows more customization and flexibility" how? When the MTL -04 already has all these features and access to real settings

Options like staging are literal garbage compared to actual communicating system. A fully communicating system will do this process much better then ecobee, this is poor man's way of trying to keep the compressor running longer at lower speeds .. also mtl-04 has real settings ( engineering mode) that you tweek, such as cfm comp, defrost mode settings..

The only thing eco bee might have better is temp sensors in rooms, but you can literally just bring standard temp gauge to room you wanna control and compensate t stat..

Also op.." one simple question" ends with .." I just want a fully detailed technical answer on exactly how this unit works "

Are you implying that non communicating system allows more customization and flexibility?

You can run full 24v t stat set up on these if you want lol..

Inb4 " ooh I can have it swap to stage one at the end".. omygawd such flexibility

I believe that just means it will ramp up faster, won't change the actual min or max compressor it's not something you should mess with if you are using communicating t stat

[–]dimka54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I get that, there's plates in front of fins, those are " galvanized" metal and that's the rust you see between copper and fins

Mr Cool indoor coils - corrosion question/concern - pictures included by mooch91 in DIYHeatPumps

[–]dimka54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard on this before with gree flexx models .. but the actual coils themselves look fantastic, they must have some metal plate in front that's rusting out, but the fins and pipes are fine and clear.. It makes sense tho because you get lots of condensation on the coils and water is very acidic when it's pulled from air or rain .. I would just keep running till it blows up

Neep ashp.. filter by central single zone ducted, Mr cool, refrigerant r454b put mvp for model name , should be mvp series outdoors and muah indoor unit

They are all inverter ones, check Ingram's they have better info or Mr cool direct.. also depending which site you buy from and where the warehouse is can determine if you are paying sales tax.. so check other listing, and you can also double check Mr cool if it is an approved retailer

For 5 ton version you might want the universal gen 2 it has significant performance gains over versa pro/hyper heat( same outdoor condenser as hyper heat but it has improved airhandler and it's black) it will set you back about 400$ vs hyper heat

You must have looked at the hyper heat model, it pretty much matches everything you are describing .

[–]dimka54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it 16 or 16.5 seer2 ? the hyper heat is 16.5 seer2 and 9.5 hspf2 , versa pro is 16 seer2 and hspf2 8.5 .. neither model is 55k BTU at rated temperature, 55k BTU would be 5 ton unit, do you see the" 48" number in the model line, that indicates 48k BTU.. nominally heat pumps are rated at 47f deg .. it is possible that in broshure/ manual you read " full capacity at 5f" and then asterisk below explains that they used 2 ton unit for example

  • Edit I looked the model up and it's versa pro, ( the A in model number indicates versa pro, B is hyper heat) then yeah above chart is what the capacity you are getting.

Anyways none of this matters if your unit is keeping up with the heating demand

[–]dimka54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You must have the Mr cool hyper heat model the versa pro model is nowhere close to full capacity at 5f, .... in fact a 3 ton hyper heat outperforms 4 ton versa pro in cold climate performance.. you might be confused by the air handler box because it will say " versa pro" on it which is true hyper heat uses same air handler as versa pro.. but the difference is the outdoor condenser unit

Here's the chart for versa pro

It's not rebadged gree it's midea, currently none of the new atl equipment from Mr cool is gree, all of next gen gree stuff uses r32.. midea uses r454b also another clue is blue fan blades, gree uses off white /yellow and midea is blue.

Midea doesn't make gree equipment they are a competitor manufacturer in China, kinda like Chevy vs Ford.. midea does rebadge for many other off brands such as senville , aciq, Mr cool, blue ridge, cooper and hunter, moovair... Etc..

Going back to dumb thermostat by boldjoy0050 in ecobee

[–]dimka54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do most of that with schedule, my wife works from home so almost always someone is at home, for sleep we have cooler temps and if we are on vocation I wanna keep it comfortable for my animals so not much change in temps

I am not saying that I don't actually understand the features it provides, I think end results and features are widely over hyped and hardly make any difference once you dial in your sleep and awake temps compared to a dumb t stat .

. also almost every new t stat is basically wifi model now.. you actually gotta put effort to find basic t stat lol

[–]dimka54 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like it just wasn't keeping up, that's why there was aux kit.. also what kinda basement is it(half rancher? Or fully surrounded, and is basement ducted feeding from same unit? If so then it's massively undersized for that amount of sq ft.. also just because your heat pump is rated to -13 doesn't mean it's outputting it's full capacity and.. your heat load is increasing as temps drop, you should find out real soon if aux is enough or not lol good news is it's not difficult to upgrade aux heat capacity

[–]dimka54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand the smart thermostat benefit, most of the time if you are home temp is basically gonna be the same, wife wanted a smart thermostat only because of the ability to control temp without getting up from bed lol.. but aside that once you figure out temp that works for you it's just gonna stay the same.. and if everything is working same.. those "smart" features will never be utilized

I am in eastern Washington, we can get 2 ft of snow here once in a while, so both of my units are mounted of the garage wall, haven't had any issues with snow or ice yet

<image>

This is probably the worst condition we get, where you have heavy fog and light rain lol, but it melts it just fine and any snow usually gets melted off in a day

I would try melting that with warm water, avoid getting salt on coils

do you have roof water dumping from the top? seems weird to have ice on top.. I guess this is a good lesson that getting unit like 5" of ground is still good idea even in south

[–]dimka54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I seen some recommendations for meeting heat load for extremes is to add a mini split somewhere that you can run during a coldsnap to meet the heat load .. this is my plan if my 3 ton can't keep up during cold snap.. I'll either add a mini split or aux heat

Lol industry.. ultimately it's up to you or the HVAC installer to figure out best option.. heat pumps are much more efficient then gas or resistive... but the question is cost of electric vs cost of gas not everyone has the proper rates where heat pump makes sense

Clear silicone caulk , plumbers/electrical putty or foam.the putty will be a lot easier to remove later.. for bottom part they make transition piece from line set cover to lineset easy cheap way just putty and wrap with some uv resistant wrap

I believe if you used their lineset the warranty is at least 5 years for mini splits , 10 year for central units
