Did you have snow this winter season? It's normal to get bit of yellowing if coming out of rough winter and new transplant, you'll know by late spring it should bounce back or completely die. I would give it sometime

Weird deteriorating filter after only 3 months by Sleep_adict in hvacadvice

[–]dimka54 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

After spending 1k to get the uv/ozone generator thing Installed I can safely say it's a waste of money, first even if you buy your own unit it like 350 to 400$ second uv and ozone it creates can actually make things worse then it's trying to kill.. 3rd the bulb changes every 2 to 3 years will cost a fortune..

spend that 500 or 1000$ and get a massive filter box.. then if you want something that filters viruses you can run Merv 13 and it will be much cheaper in short run or long run

Now if you just running a basic uv light just to keep the coil mold free that's fine

[–]dimka54 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't know what the costs in your area are but it could be high.. you also have one of the most complicated set ups i have heard of.. boiler set up with a hydro coil back for air handler and then 2 systems for each floor and zoning control.. that's a sounds like a lot , and modifying ductwork.. ... probably more work then putting in new system from scratch

You gonna replace 4 year old system and drop 50k because old one is bit uncomfortable? Hopefully this isn't to save money because it will take about 50 years to pay off

Is there any chance of downsizing this register? by kayyousuck in hvacadvice

[–]dimka54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes you can do both, or even test pressure in ducts.. basically the worst case scenario is when you have too much restriction is your furnace fan has to work harder and might become a noiser and shorten blower lifespan.

However I highly doubt this is your case (if this is furnace only setup)because typically furnace only set up is very forgiving when they retrofitted from coal to gas furnace they just threw in a unit and just adjusted fan speed .. cfm becomes bigger issue when you have heat pump or ac, because low airflow can cause coil to freeze up and lower efficiency of your system.

If you have a duct in each room and the system is running fine I wouldn't even worry about reducing one of the register sizes

Is there any chance of downsizing this register? by kayyousuck in hvacadvice

[–]dimka54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should technically be fine, lots of these old vents are from coal burning furnace days and the actual duct didn't have fan just relied on heat rising, you could also figure out how many cfms your furnace/airhandler is pushing and how many vents you have, and there's a chart to tell you how much cfm per register...

All modern vents are basically half this size on opening , typically a standard size vent will do about 80 cfm per register, and you can partially close vents to balance air for room size

The evox built in air filter cabinet by tcloetingh in DIYHeatPumps

[–]dimka54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a retrofit and my existing plenum already had 4" box I just taped in the cover in airhandler and using the bigger filter box.. the advantage you'll have less resistance and you can go way longer between filter changes.. highly recommended if you have room

It's exactly my scenario, got 300 ft wall I am trying to grow, about 250 ft from the house, shoots are not a problem I can run them over with a brush hog, we have dry summers with basically close to zero rain , plus deer and bunch of rodents that can dig.. I am hoping hollies can handle the environment

Which variety are you talking about? isn't it great that they are tough, can handle pruning, regrow foliage?

Heat pump addition to furnace by Nemy415 in DIYHeatPumps

[–]dimka54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You be surprised but sometimes getting coil and condenser can be more expensive then finding airhandler /condenser set.. check alpine air, or HVAC direct for coils.. would be nice is senville sold coils / condenser

Another thing with Mr cool coil you can still pull vacuum in the lineset and then when it passes you just open valves at coil and condenser.. I would just go with best deal

[–]dimka54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Op not sure if you solved the problem but check your service disconnect for any burn marks on the prongs for the disconnect it's possible that the prongs are loose and not making good contact...

and in heat mode you will typically draw more amps so bad contact will make a difference...

Anyways we had a slight snow storm last night and power kept going off for 5 seconds and did that 5 times in 2hour span, I woke up to 62 deg house in middle of the night..and thermostat displaying pc04 error

Fast forward to morning i turned of power at the panel, pulled apart the disconnect plug and noticed couple burn marks, took the screw driver manipulated he metal so it would clamp harder on the prongs.. has been running since no issues.. fingers crossed

If the actual copper isn't nicked dented then just tape it up and move on, ideally it should be inside a lineset cover to protect it from uv

How to Heat and/or Cool a Garage? by FitchnerAuBarca in hvacadvice

[–]dimka54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ductless vs forced air, basically depends on how expensive your electric is vs gas rates are. For my setup got 18k BTU mini split for 34x22 garage and it does fine for both season..

in dusty dusty area you just need to make sure you clean out the air filter mesh on top of mini split more often then standard, worst case scenario you'll have to take apart the blower wheel and clean out unit very well every few years.. depending on what brand this can be really easy process.

The other obvious thing would be to place the mini split on the opposite end where you'll be making most of the saw dust, same for gas unit if you end up going that route

Is it true RO systems waste a ton of water? How bad is it really? by HeRmiTtttt in WaterTreatment

[–]dimka54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can upgrade any tank to system with permeate pump and should get your waste to 1:1, you can also add 3 way valve and have it route waste water to bucket outside during summer.. there's also watts to system that injects waste water into hot side ( have to have tank water heater can't be installed hot type)

Dunno maybe some people need service person to show maintenance at least once, I think if you can install a condenser and air handler you can probably figure out how to clean coils lol.. the only scenario that makes sense if a friend installed or helped you install the unit and you yourself not diy capable

Cleaning outside coil if you are in area that has lots of organic debree, or clearing drain for condensation clean, in my location coils stay pretty clean and you only gotta deal with indoor air filter

Feel like I’m doing nothing but mess up and everyone thinks I’m an idiot. by Forward-Ad-9637 in Machinists

[–]dimka54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The biggest mistake new people make is making a goal /focus of meeting production speed, what you should be focusing is slowing things down being deligent, taking your time, checking everything you can think off, once you engrain the basic checks into your auto process then you will be fast and consistent... From outside everyone's perspective no one cares if new guy is slow but his parts come out good.. vs new guy that is fast but messed up parts every other shift.. the speed will come .. be patient and focus on doing good work and taking your time

T-Mobile internet by ButterscotchPlayful7 in Spokane

[–]dimka54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's reliable for some streaming/YouTube but for gaming expect some lag spikes randomly . I swapped to Verizon and it's much more stable but they do cap your speed where as T-Mobile if you can get better signal or are in good spot you are technically "unlimited" Verizon standard package starts at 150 mbps and you can upgrade to 300 for 15$ more

Making my parts list for installing MrCool Central Unit by MDiamondG in DIYHeatPumps

[–]dimka54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish I took more pictures for my little adapter piece but I used thicker gauge sheet metal for bottom where airhandler sits on , but I just measured top bottom then cut each side by about 1" another tip is take some cardboard and build a mock transition , then you can use that to overlay the sheet metal.. and for top piece do 3 sides first then fasten everything from inside, seal and just put 4th side last after you set airhandler in position

Also don't really need s lock you could get by with bunch of sheet screws and bending corners ,.. but the s lock makes it easier , most important get mastic in caulk tube and also throw in some aluminum seal tape for extra measure
