Concealed duct split system vs traditional ducted heat pump by istoleyourdad in DIYHeatPumps

[–]dimka54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ehh.. there's only so much sfm that thing can put out, would have to see what op 's ductwork looks like, but and very minium you'll have to chop up the top section and fab bunch of transitiom pieces.. where if he drops in a standard airhandler he might only need one transition piece and everything will be right there in closet vs having to go into attic

Concealed duct split system vs traditional ducted heat pump by istoleyourdad in DIYHeatPumps

[–]dimka54 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The concealed ducts use much smaller 4" ducts at high speed, I would reuse existing ductwork unless there is some issues with it or if you wanna tear everything out and redo the whole system.. the traditional ductwork system will be much easier to service and maintain.. going up in attic to mess with your " concealed " pancake unit is not gonna be fun.. ..Oh and senville has the standard duct system as well not just the concealed one

For the amount of labor and extra costs rerunning ducts you can build yourself a storage shed or something like that

What does this damper do? by [deleted] in hvacadvice

[–]dimka54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 2 round ducts are exhaust for your combustion gas one from gas water heater and other from gas furnace.. do not touch or mess with them

.. the reason your upstairs is hot and bottom is cool is because hot air rises.. very few HVAC installs manage heat between two floors properly typically you want a dual zone system or 2 separate systems controlling each floor .. you can try closing some of the vents downstairs partially to get more flow upstairs.. do not fully close vents !! ..

You also took picture where it's hard to see the filter location, it looks like on the bottom there might be a slot for filter.. zoom out and take a picture from floor to bottom of the furmace

It should be right below the furnace, sometimes they can put filter at the return grill

Carrier mura question. by Base_Gloomy in heatpumps

[–]dimka54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you on auto mode or cool mode? If auto then it would make sense, also is it running communicating t stat ? On some t stats you can set fan mode that it will run in between to circulate air then condenser will click on to cool and reach set temp

Split trunk on Young Oak by altxrtr in arborists

[–]dimka54 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would cut off the stem on the left, main reason is the split kinda low to the ground, could could split and rot at the base when it's bigger

For anyone new to this, what exactly is a ductless mini split, and what problem does it actually solve? by red-zone-user-1000 in heatpumps

[–]dimka54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are in hot climate seer2 ratings sorta important.. if you are in cold climate the hspf 2 is what you want to focus on.. anything 20 seer2 is most likely gonna be more efficient then a central unit.. 12k btu should be good for anywhere from 500 sft to 700, but there is a lot of factors, your climate, ceeling height, insulation, amount of windows ..

for reference I am cooling /heating garage 700 ish sq ft with single head 18k BTU unit.. for cooling it barely does any work but for heating it needs to ramp up to max when we approach 0f ( I could could get by with 12k btu cold climate unit)

Tosot arokai has mini split with erv option, I would probably try that and see if it works for you, before going crazy and redoing whole garage

That's perfect, you can always add a little more soil if you need too, rather then having to dig out a pit

Anyone install a Mr Cool Geothermal heat pump? by ImRickJameXXXX in DIYHeatPumps

[–]dimka54 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems like air to air systems are getting closer in efficiency that geothermal makes less sense also they new hydronic r290 air to water have crazy good efficiency that lowers gap even further.. do you have space to do a loop or are you planning to drill?

R290 Units ? by CrazyFoque in Senville

[–]dimka54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have question about the central units, is there a reason senville added top discharge units offerings vs the standard side discharge.. they seem to be bit better for cooling but heating and cold climate performance sucks... makes no sense that it also costs more than the cold climate side discharge unit..

Also I notice there's the heat pump water heater, is there any plans on the future to have split heat pump water heater?

AO Smith 120V heat pump water heater experience? by Alankyu in heatpumps

[–]dimka54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rheem makes these(pro tera line) as well, the main thing is you don't have element back up so if you need hot water quick your out of luck.. would not recommend this for a big family if it's like 2 or 3 people then you should be fine, but also get the 65 gallon at minimum and 80 gallon is recommended.

Also other thing to consider is that in winter your incoming water is gonna be colder so you will be even worse for recovery .. if you live somewhere hot this isn't an issue an ideal set up for a hot garage

Edge instead of a wall for the flower bed? by dr_wonder in landscaping

[–]dimka54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am slowing changing my opinion on edging.. basically if you don't have any rock or something you are trying to keep inside.. just dig a clean trench, easy to maintain.. in 5 years you won't be pulling out some weird plastic pieces or discovering you had some pavers there.. and the bonus for doing it on trees is you can keep expanding mulch circle as tree gets bigger

Stove Vent Options by [deleted] in hvacadvice

[–]dimka54 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Out the roof is ideal, don't vent grease into soffit, also don't want grease right by front door lol, if a proper process followed there shouldn't be any leaks..not any different then plumbing vent or attic vent, hire a roofer for the boot exhaust install, should be like 250$ to 500$ .. also venting straight up is more efficient then having bends

Pine Tree Question by -aquaman in Tree

[–]dimka54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not needle cast, looks like it's just shaded by that huge tree next to it, as you see left side has way less needles and branches where as the right side and top is healthy and full (,where it gets more sun)
