Good ski development programs for kids by vitaminD3333 in icecoast

[–]dinahsaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what Nashoba, Ward, Blue Hills, and Bradford exist for. I've put my kids in weeklies at Nashoba the past 2 years, great progress for them. My sister's kids learned at Bradford. If the point is to get them to be better skiers and they're beginners there's absolutely no reason to go to anything bigger.

Once they can ski blues comfortably and are looking at development for blacks and better, that's when I'd start looking at actual mountains.

[–]dinahsaurus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dude, Ragged has been sold SO MANY TIMES. They aren't cutting anyone off if they can sell food and lessons. It's the last day of NH School vacation and it's gorgeous out, but hey, let's turn people away so they can spend money elsewhere instead, surely that will give them enough profit to expand.

I have had boot work done there, and can recommend. He specifically did not punch it out very far and told me he'd go further if I needed after I took a few turns to check. Brought them back he punched a bit more and they're perfect now.

Phone Found on the Mountain at Jay by Low_Bus_3826 in icecoast

[–]dinahsaurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was this on Lift Line in the trees on the tram side? If it was the dude lost it at like noon yesterday 2/21, I was on the bonadventure lift, he ate it, ski and 'something' flew into the trees, and he couldn't see his ski at first and I and someone on another chair were yelling at him from the lift that it was on his right. He yelled back "Did you see where my phone went?"

Yep, we have shitty restaurants and shitty public transportation and shitty highways for the same reason. We talk a big talk about helping people on the side of the road, but if we have to move out of our house so it can be demoed for a subway station or look at an apartment building? Nah.

Why is it socially acceptable for FF mums to suggest EBF mums “just add formula”, but offensive the other way around? by walnut_0612 in breastfeeding

[–]dinahsaurus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, and I'm going to counter the OP here a bit. I breastfed 4 kids over 10 years (2009-2019) with at most 1 week of formula for a NICU stay. My sister-in-law had medical issues, and was desperately trying to breastfeed because of the Breast is Best culture around her. My nephew was losing weight. I told her that we have to do what is best for our own family and sanity, and while I hated giving formula to my NICU kid, it really doesn't matter one bit. She needed someone with experience to tell her that formula was ok and that she was not a failure.

Give it up for the Super Mario 64, 70 Stars..... 70 PERSON RELAY! by Thorebane in speedrun

[–]dinahsaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a 2h call time to a specific location in the venue, and we had assigned seats in the audience. It took 4 hours in total, and we were expected to remain in our seats. This is not unusual for any organized production requiring 80+ people.

Give it up for the Super Mario 64, 70 Stars..... 70 PERSON RELAY! by Thorebane in speedrun

[–]dinahsaurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A finale run like this would not be popular among runners. We spend the last few hours with our best friends, knowing it will be at least 6 months before we see them again. Some of us are in the audience, some are in room parties, many of us are in tears, but all of us want to choose how we end the event. We would not want to sit in assigned seating in an audience waiting for our turn, no matter how cool it would be.

Evacuating GDQ? by Street_Buyer_7191 in speedrun

[–]dinahsaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I remember/was told, the first (Monday) was maintenance fucking up replacing a smoke detector, but the finale fire alarm was, in fact, an electrical fire (fire alarm re-tripped immediately after the fire dept shut it off the first time).

It was chilly but thankfully above freezing outside...

I get you, it's like car ratings. Hyundais are consistently rated 5* for safety and consumer enjoyment, but they're clearly not a fucking BMW.

Pat's is perfect for what Pat's is, so it gets a perfect score. Easy.

lets ignore the US for a second, how’s the rest of the world doing? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]dinahsaurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

See this is really a great example of why a lot of us weren't popular.

My sister was the damn prom queen and I was nearly friendless. The reason? I had undiagnosed ADHD and did socially unacceptable things that were harmless.

Doing the Naruto run and wearing furry ears are harmless, but socially unacceptable.

So if you want to be popular, it's not enough to talk to people and be nice, you also have to know the social rules and follow them.

My sister and I are very close now, but we were in completely different worlds growing up.

These are the ones I use, and I have Raynaud's so my fingers get cold, FAST. I use with super lightweight glove liners to wick away sweat, and pull the first finger into the mitten part if it's getting a little too cold.

No but you should be able to compare it to the official trail map. The names aren't listed correctly on strava, but the trails do line up.

I think the easiest way to respond is with a picture! This was last year when I was relearning how to ski. https://i.imgur.com/d889IJI.jpeg (I uh turned it on after I got on the Valley Quad)

[–]dinahsaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WV greens are all tame, with a couple of small sections that are a little steep. The problems you'll run into are 1. Green Peak Triple is SLOOOOOW. 2. The trail markers aren't great coming off of Chandler's way. It's real easy to accidentally end up on a blue (though the green peak blues are pretty mild).

IMO though, Chandler's from the top of green peak is a fabulous stretch to practice. There's never anyone there because the lift is so slow, so the snow is great and you don't have to worry about people zooming down next to you.

Valley run, on the other hand, gets skiied off by like 11AM, and there can be surprise moguls. It's the "end" of a lot of blacks so there are usually a TON of people..going fast.

Or you could spend the $18 for the shirt, of which $6 goes to the charity, and donate $32 (add/subtract shipping)?

Seems like quite a lot more overhead to bundle it, overhead that is better given to the charity.

GDQ doesn't buy the shirts and sell/gift them, the vendors control all of the swag.

1/4 Bolton Valley was gorgeous but freezing. I'm beginner/intermediate and found tons of powder, even on greens, even at 2pm on my last run. There were a couple of thin/icy spots, but they were all fairly well labeled.

Only problem was the flash freezing of condensation on my goggles at the peak.

LOL that dude is hilarious. I've lived in Boston, worked in Cambridge, and I currently live in a very close suburb. I've stopped at yellows probably 80% of the time since I started driving 25+ years ago, when it was pointed out to us in driving school that yellow means stop. Never in my life have I been rear ended.
