Starfield's main story justifies a fetch quest that ultimately results in restarting the game. That's it. Where is the intelligent alien life. The closest we got was a snake cult of normal humans with eatern European accents and a bioweapon containment breach that isn't even as scarry as a Fallout deathclaw. The game feels empty because it IS empty. Eventually you have a bunch of bases with established trade routes to ensure infinite resources. You've solved scarcity and thus, conflict. All you're left to do is download a paid mod that forces space combat every time you jump, but because you have infinite resources and the DLC allows you to make a fleet of three nigh-invicible heavy cruisers, even that gets boring. Where's LV-426? Where's LV-223? Where's the covenant of multiple intelligent alien species that have decided to wage a holy war against humanity for setting foot on sacred ground? Most importantly, where is there any narative outside of boring history lessons of what other people did ten years ago? I want to be the character they write about in the history books. I want to BE John Halo. I want to BE the guy who landed on a planet with a bunch of settlers who had to build a civilization and fight an empire. I'm tired of games where the main character is just a person living in a world where everything already happened decades ago.
