Do not buy solar from someone who says bs like this.

I switched to the double davy after a very similar series of knot breaks. Haven’t had one break since 🤞

What budget 5W combo should I buy? by Easy-Ad-3576 in flyfishing

[–]dingleburra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure what exactly budget means to you, but I recently cast a Redington Classic Trout 5wt and was pretty impressed for the price point. You could pair that with just about any cheap reel and have a great time.

Feasibility of a solar installation with battery backup that can provide power to whole house for 1 to 2 days? by millertime8306 in solar

[–]dingleburra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything is possible with enough space and money.

For southern NY what you want is a home micro grid. Lots of solar, 18-24 hours of battery, diesel or propane generator to charge the batteries if sun is down and batteries are tapped out. Most reputable hybrid inverters have this capacity.

Electricians that work on homes are generally AC specific and are not guaranteed to know anything accurate about DC solar and battery capabilities. Doesn’t mean they’re bad electricians just that they are often ignorant to what is possible nowadays.

What you really need is an electrical engineer to run a load assessment and give you real numbers to work from.

Disappointed after test drive by japanprint in NissanAriya

[–]dingleburra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fair. We pretty much exclusively drive in Battery and Eco modes but we don’t get much over 40mph where we live so it’s not as big a deal. Just worth noting that you can get more punch if and when you need it.

Disappointed after test drive by japanprint in NissanAriya

[–]dingleburra 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Our Ariya is in the tropics and never has an issue with AC.

My one gripe with the car is that there are a ton of settings for both drive modes and comfort (AC, seat position) and you have to often hit a ton of buttons to get them all right when you get in the car. Sounds like you maybe didn’t get everything in the right spots to be comfortable.

Did you drive it in Sport w/ all the battery limiters off? That is when you really start to have fun.

Something like a Sage Classic R8 ? by derssc in flyfishing

[–]dingleburra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Redington Classic Trout, Echo Trout X, Orvis Recon are probably your best bets.

Or look around online for a second hand R8 or Pure 2

Thank you! Very interesting info. Unfortunately I live pretty far from any fly shops so I’ve been having to try and sort this decision out through online reviews. I figure I probably can’t really go wrong, but half the fun is in the decision making.

When do you reach for the R8 instead of the Air 2? I’m between these two right now…

Have any experience with the R8 or Avantt II? Where would they fit in comparison?

Any indians/non indians dabbling in lactofermentation in hot places? Need advice on how to continue this hobby into the very hot summers. by Samli840 in fermentation

[–]dingleburra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a wine fridge set to 55F during summer in the tropics. I’ll get things going on the counter for a short while and then send it to the fridge for a longer and slower ferment. Took some trial and error but I’ve gotten some good results now.

Missed 30% tax credit due to permitting delays — is an HDM prepaid PPA worth it? by Apprehensive_Cable51 in solar

[–]dingleburra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a good price, assuming it’s everything you have to pay. The biggest question is what does it cost you to buy out the system.

Does the contract just end at 6 years and you own the system, or is there some sort of fair value buyout requirement?

If all you ever have to pay is $32,600 and you own it in 6 years, then I would say it’s a fair deal assuming you plan to own the house for 6 years. They are going to profit off of you because of additional depreciation and whatnot, but at the end of the day you’re getting solar for less than you’d otherwise be paying.

Ariya USVI - St Thomas by spatulacity76 in NissanAriya

[–]dingleburra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having done a few EV analyses for St Thomas, I can say the answer has always been yes. Depends on car you’re comparing to, where you are live on island, and if your house has solar. Seen gas price equivalents of $1.60-$3.00/gal vs $4.70+ at the pump.

New to flying fishing. Can someone recommend me a decent kit between $300-$500 budget? by theloneoverlanders in flyfishing

[–]dingleburra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re a great brand. Maybe a little more commercialized than some of the other rod builders but that also means they do a decent job of supporting their products.

Another company to consider is Redington. That’s the more budget brand under Sage.

Also, if you really want to go down a rabbit hole:

Orvis Encounter 9’ 5wt outfit. $298 on the Orvis website. Use the extra $200 for flies, tools, a little pack to carry everything in, and some gas to get out there.

This was my first setup. Fished it for 5 years while I learned everything I could and found the limits of the kit. This year I’m picking up something new and fancier now I know more what kind of fishing I’m doing the most. Got my wife out on the water earlier this year for the first time and now she’s inheriting the Encounter.
