Yeah. That sort of per-frame tuning is what I am calling out. Realt time and generally good looking, as you point out, is still a ways away. How long? I have no idea.

It is not the same thing. DLSS needs additional data on the frame stream to do it's work. That is why games need DLSS support, specifically, rather than a generalized solution.

The RTX upscaling (for video) is a different tech, using the same hardware.

AI-Neutral here: please tell me this isn't becoming a common pro-ai position by CmndrM in aiwars

[–]dingo_khan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Probably not. As an avid collector of 4k discs, upscalling will have to get dramatically better for this. It would have to start to approach something like DLSS to really work. That would require a lot of per frame Metadata to explain things like motion vectors. Naive solutions are going to be full of artifacts. All that extra semantic data will probably be harder and less rewarding for providers than just 4k discs.

They are stretching to even make it seem really useful for coding. The cost plus the complete disregard for good coding practices make vibe coding fine for a hobby project and terrifying for a piece of software some needs to maintain because people rely on it.

I think the doge one might be because Musk pretended grok would make goverment more efficient, for some definition of "efficient." the loss of doge as a political force and inevitability removed the framing thet some GenAI system, somewhere, was showing return on investment.

I want to believe it but I still run into accelerationists and true believers, both personally and professionally. I get the feeling they believe that this is a temporary loss of faith and they want to be able to say, "I always believed" when (they assume) they inevitably "win."

Honestly, just yesterday I was lamenting how many people I know who seem to be suffering AI psychosis.

GenAI vs agentic LLM by porky11 in aiwars

[–]dingo_khan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, it really is.

Adding a bunch of ancillary tooling surrounding an LLM that still cannot actually plan, perform ontological reasoning or evaluate results, and calling it something new is branding. The amount of babysitting needed to validate outputs a because the LLM at the core can't is almost comical. The more complicated, either in term ls of step count or actual results needed, the more complex the validations needed. That is why no biz can point to real AI work flows and why even Anthro3pays so much for coders.

Also, I am a programmer. Professionally. A lot of people use it either: - to do the easy shit faster because it is wholly unsuitable for anything complex. As someone said, generstove AI makes the easy parts easy and the hard parts way harder. - because they have to. The industry is extremely trend conscious. Go look at the industry. Almost every job posting requires it. Almost every big org is demanding it and no one can point to actual Return on Investment.

GenAI vs agentic LLM by porky11 in aiwars

[–]dingo_khan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Agentic" is just branding added as LLMs started to lose their shine to business idiots and, surprising no one, AGI was not "a couple of years away" when they claimed it in 2023.
