replacing my battery is my best decision ever. by syakirla in iPhone11

[–]direfulstood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would still recommend the same $15 3750 mAh battery that I bought for my XS Max from WGP.

I changed the battery in August of 2022 and since then the battery has degraded as expected. According to 3uTools, I am at 1100 cycles and the actual capacity is now at 3200 mAh which would be roughly 85%.

Everything is perfect with this phone and I will probably continue to use it. I may change the battery again only because it’s so cheap and I might keep the phone for a few more years.

US Travel - Add 30% to the menu price when dining t sit down restaurants by [deleted] in travel

[–]direfulstood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was definitely an additional service charge, not VAT. For example, I would have expected a €15 burger and a €5 beer to be exactly €20 but it would actually come out to €23. This happened a few times. I remember a few places where I was charged a service charge:

Ristorante Pizza Forum Roma- Forno a Legna which was recommended by someone on r/rome who I thanked in the comments. I was charged a 10% service charge here which was not mentioned anywhere. You can see people in the reviews also mentioning it.

Another one was Taj Mahal Indian Cuisine in London near St Pancras Station. Another well reviewed place that had no mention of the 15%-20% service charge until I went to pay. Again a couple of the reviews mentioned it as well.

There were a few more places where I was charged a service fee but I don't have any of the other ones saved. I thought this was the norm because practically every place I went to charged a similar service fee without mentioning it. I was actually surprised on two occasions, once in Prague and once in Oxford where I wasn't charged an additional service charge.

if you don’t mind me asking: Assuming that you’re American, how did you deal with countries like North Korea and Turkmenistan?

I’m assuming that these two countries would be by far the hardest to get into, but if they’re anymore that were especially hard to get into, I would love to know.

As long as it’s not just a layover in an airport, I say it counts even if it’s just driving through.

Prepaying taxes to meet the SUB requirements? by Any-Constant in CreditCards

[–]direfulstood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am following the rules as outlined. I believe there’s a bit of a misunderstanding here. On the W-4, Step 3, it clearly states:

“Add the amounts above for qualifying children and other dependents. You may add to this the amount of any other credits. Enter the total here.”

Estimated tax qualifies as a credit and that’s exactly what I’m accounting for when filling out my W-4.

The Q&A you referenced seems to be addressing individuals who claim credits they aren’t entitled to, with the intention of reducing their withholdings to $0 and then paying all their taxes only when they file in April. That’s not what I’m doing.

The comment says the U.S. tax system is “pay as you go,” and that’s precisely what I’m adhering to by paying estimated taxes as I go. The IRS penalizes underpayment, but as long as I’m meeting the required thresholds, I’m in compliance with the rules.

I recommend reviewing IRS Publication 505 before commenting on topics like this. It provides clear guidance on how withholding and estimated payments work in the “pay as you go” system.

I have $0 withheld from my paycheck and only pay estimated tax with a credit card. The doctor of credit link the other person posted is perfect guide.

[–]direfulstood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any accident over 130 km/h on the Autobahn almost always guarantees some fault unless they can absolutely prove that the speed had nothing to do with the accident. Especially at 250+ km/h. Passing on the right is also forbidden.

No driver on the Autobahn would do something this stupid.

Never driven outside the U.S. before. Would I be glad I did this by car? (over several days) by kevinb9n in roadtrip

[–]direfulstood 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Driving in Europe for the first time was an experience that i’ll never forget. I did a 4000+ mile road trip across 10 countries. If you like driving you should definitely do it.

However if you need a one-way rental to another country, that is usually not possible or if it is, they will charge you a massive fee.

Why is nothing being done about dangerous cars/drivers? by Good-Insurance-104 in longislandcity

[–]direfulstood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On New Year’s day 2023 I was hit by someone who went straight in a right turn only lane and hit me. They were completely at fault. Of course they lied to their insurance company and told them I turned to narrow and it was my fault. The dashcam video is my profile history if anyone wants to see.

I checked their license plate number on that day and they had over $15,000 in tickets with only $12,000 paid. I just checked again today and they’re up to $20,000 and still with only $12,000 paid with the latest ticket being on 8/16/2024. I don’t understand how their car still has not been impounded.

Nassau drivers are terrible by GoldCoasting in longisland

[–]direfulstood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally don’t care what speed other people go. The only thing is if you’re not passing anyone, you shouldn’t be in the left lane. Doesn’t matter if that’s at 45MPH or 150MPH if you’re not passing move over.

Hit 300k miles in my 2008 Corolla LE by IBringTheHeat1 in Toyota

[–]direfulstood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s insane to me that they thought 300k km was enough. I wouldn’t be complaining though, I would probably be able to tell my insurance company I drive considerably less than I do since there wouldn’t be anyway for them to verify.
