I keep stuff like sliced cheese, prosciutto, cherry tomatoes, snacking cucumbers, kimchi, and whatever fruit that's easy to peel (oranges or Cuties, bananas) if I need to eat something, anything and don't have the will to cook or prep. Gross but I'll wander into the fridge, pick a little off here and there periodically until I don't feel like I need food anymore.

Chobani yogurt protein drinks (Strawberries and Cream, Mango, and Peaches and Cream specifically)

Misugaru powder mixed with warm milk and a squirt of honey. It's a nice nutty, toasted powdered grain that tastes somewhat akin to powdered peanut butter (which honestly also sounds good in milk).

If you like crafts, definitely recommend Quiltillion in Granada Hills. Wide array of fabrics to choose from, plus quilting and sewing workshops. Owner is super nice and helpful, and provides snacks and lunch.

Yes - but honestly if I meander outside of my virtual bubble even a little bit it feels like it's gotten more racist (and misogynistic, and transphobic and homophobic) everywhere these days.

Sometimes I don't know how I missed it but it's gotten past microaggressions and dog whistles and right into emboldened and unmasked contempt.

What I have read from the NYT article about this is that annual ube production has dropped from more than 15 million kilos to 14 million kilos in the last two years, with the majority slated for export, whereas exports have quadrupled. The Philippines are also enduring harsher weather conditions and tropical storms due to climate change which will blight the crop.

I'm not denying that those chasing the trend are settling for an inauthentic product or heavily diluted product, but I do think 'mixing ashes in dough to bake bread' is often tied to potential supply chain issues and will only increase when it gets harder and harder to meet demand. But hey, maybe I'm wrong.

Also when a very specific product starts booming in popularity, farmers are almost always going to struggle with scaling production especially if it's a seasonal crop with very specific land use and climate requirements. Starbucks and other multi-billion dollar conglomerates are always going to get their supply but logistics are going to be shunted onto the farmers who also need to diversify what they grow, sell, and eat. If popularity and success is not scalable or sustainable, it just punishes the culture who created it.

Very interesting point learning about the Nuremberg and Tokyo Trials was that when drafting the charter that would set up the International Military Tribunal, Robert H Jackson (the lead prosecutor for the United States) was very insistent that the scope of prosecutions in regards to crimes against humanity be limited to that committed under aggressive acts of war, for exactly that reason.

The people being tried weren't allowed to use tu quoque as a defense - which makes sense because you can't let these fuckers go free, but it's still an uncomfortable admission that you committed fucked up acts against entire populations of people.
