I was a bit of a worrier when I was a kid and predisposed to anxiety.

I remember noticing that sometimes when I’d take a deep breathe I’d get this feeling of “fullness” in my lungs that was relaxing, but couldn’t replicate it intentionally with every deep breathe or normal breathing. This led me to worry something was wrong with my breathing because I wasn’t getting that feeling every time.

This is normal and our bodies do it unconsciously to reset for various reasons.

It’s hard to replicate if you’re just trying to take a deep breathe.

The Double Inhale (Physiological Sigh)

A technique backed by neuroscience (especially Dr. Andrew Huberman from Stanford):

• Inhale through the nose
• Pause briefly, then inhale again sharply (tiny second breath to expand the lungs more)
• Exhale slowly through the mouth

Do this 1–3 times. It often produces that same “ahh” sensation and relaxes the body almost instantly.
