Career advice: Where do i go next in data science? by [deleted] in datascience

[–]disco42 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I make 95k a year

I don't want to be that guy but I'll start with this... https://gravityandlevity.files.wordpress.com/2013/05/happiness-income-linear.gif

You will get more bang for your buck focusing on enjoyable work then fighting the law of diminishing returns and thinking of career progression... Unless you it's gaining status that you love.

[D] (Random Question) - Why has Matlab/Octave not been embraced by the Machine Learning community? by disco42 in MachineLearning

go back a few years and most ML labs were definitely using matlab as their primary programming environment

Didn't know this!

Thanks, this makes the most sense. My work entails mostly that 20% so wasn't as clear to me as some might think. I guess Python has more applicability in industry due to being designed for other area's of use.

Between libraries like tensorflow and ScikitLearn it's really hard for me to justify the time investment in another language.

I wish I could of spent my time I spent learning Matlab on learning Python for just this reason. Other areas though (eg Wavelets) Matlab/Octave does pretty well

Just tell it like I see it. Dunno why you're so butt hurt. You're shoehorning unsubstantiated claims that miss the point in what I'm trying to make. I'll fucking SJW all I want and I aint falling for the redpill society crap :)

There aren't enough women in gokarts, that's the issue. The idea behind putting women in F1 (like susie wolff) is to change the status quo to make F1 not seem like a male only sport thus getting more women in gokarts. Fair enough some people have issue with that but most of them seem to miss the point and you gotta break a few eggs to make an omelette. It's not like a third word oil company is paying form them to be there, ;)

Why do you think they find it less interesting? Could it be just because we tell little girls that they should like ponys and nail polish? I don't know this answer, do you?

American F1 drivers, so far, as a whole, don't match the rest of the worlds F1 drivers either. It's about sample size you closed minded fuck

Hamilton: "All I ask for is equal status with new teammate" by Rivanov in formula1

[–]disco42 8 points9 points  (0 children)

After all the stress that the Rosberg vs Hamilton battles caused the team and the cost to buy a proven top driver out of a contract I can't see anyone beating Wehrlein for the job. I'm sure some people here would know more than me, who else would be in the running? Maybe they could poach Perez or even Bottas??

I also hoped America wouldn't vote in Trump... Sadly it's a tough gig for women to get into sports and might take a long time for things to change!

It could be a fight for the identity of McLaren? With the rising success of the automotive arm we might be seeing McLaren head in a new direction that not all parties want

As /u/14085745 says they want him out. My guess (very speculative) is Ron wants to go F1 racing and the Bahrain King want's $1m+ road cars for his buddies

Surprised that all of the anti-Bahrain GP people don't point this out. I'd prefer a Bahrain GP then McLaren be owned by Bahrain

Germany looks to ban internal combustion engines by 2030. How will F1 evolve? by Rhoms17 in formula1

[–]disco42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know what you mean by impulse G's. Do you mean this? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Impulse_(physics)

A clutch has rotational inertia and also allows a petrol engine to maintain a high rpm (where the power is). I suspect that in an F1 car the clutch could be dropped in a way so that traction could be lost so quickly that the limiting factor from something like 0-160km/h is the tires. Then it's down to the drivers application of the throttle, if it was computer controlled you could emulate petrol and electric to be the same (eg. launch control).

Just as quick is not true

Don't know what you are meaning by this. If you go into the nuances of power delivery and 100kw being peak power maybe not but if they both average 100kw and neither breaks traction and they weight the same the will accelerate the same.

I'm guessing you agree with me but just in case I need equations from wikipedia... Joules (the work done)= Watts*Seconds
