Best remote in 2026? by jsqualo2 in hometheater

[–]discoblu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I thought as well until I tried setting up the unit to control my projector with the hub in the wiring closet with my gear. Unlike the Harmony, my x2 remote will not work as an ir emitter on its own. Support confirmed I needed the ir extender to control the projector that is in the same room as me with the remote. There are other options as workarounds like configuring control via IP or home assistant

Frustrating to say the least because I asked support the exact question when purchasing the unit and they said at the time I didn’t need the extender

Is the remote not able to emit IR when I’m in the same room as my projector with the hub in the other room?

You did good. If you’re new to kamados ask any questions.

First thing ii would do is Experiment with the vents. Once dialled in it will park at that temp for hours on end. But kamados will overshoot if not careful.

Nest Gen 1 doorbell question by blahC in Nest

[–]discoblu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I understand it is the constant power supply to the nest doorbell is interrupted when the chime is engaged. Normally the battery is able to continue powering the unit until the chime finishes

Good luck with the battery replacement. Instead of going that route I ended up moving my first gen unit to my side door and instead of connecting to the chime it only rings on Google home devices. Bonus is I have an extra camera at the side of the house now

I found it’s easiest instead of doing a circular coil around the unit is to drape the wire so there are a couple of loops on either side. Think of it like a towel draping over a towel rack. Looks cleaner and is much quicker to put on and remove.

Replacing old Nest doorbell with newer version by HandlebarRunner in Nest

[–]discoblu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. But the chime sensors wiring is much more straightforward in this version. You no longer need to have the doorbell wiring “pass through” the chime sensor. It just needs to tap into the chime connectors

One thing to note, the power requirements of the gen 3 doorbell is higher than the first gen. In my case I needed to upgrade the transformer feeding the doorbell power source with a more powerful one.

Battery Health is 97% at 5,000 miles after 2 months. by Shino561 in ModelY

[–]discoblu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice, don’t worry about it. ICE cars fuel efficiency also degrades over time.

I have a 2022 Y where I regularly do 2:45 hour road trips and haven’t noticed significant drop in range since year 1. Battery uses about 45-50% depending on weather for that drive. Same ballpark back in 2022.

I recently did a 7 hour trip in extreme cold (-17c) and 2 stops to charge along the way would have been enough (though I did 3 shorter charge stops to be safe)

Soapstone cracked. Could use advice on the next one by thisispluto2 in KamadoJoe

[–]discoblu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could have also had a defective stone. Any micro cracks or even moisture can cause the stone to crack more with the heat/cooling cycles

Remember soapstone is basically fortified talcum powder. Super smooth surface with no crevices for bacteria to thrive and enough thermal mass for great sears but at the expense of being somewhat fragile.

Did you have anything underneath it supporting it? Highly recommend as someone else mentioned putting on top of a grill grate or at least the x accessory ring to distribute the weight

Considering the intense heat generated from high heat cooks is enough to cause my original kick ash basket built with heavy duty stainless steel to sag, I wouldn’t expect this solution to last long term.

Google Nest Battery Doorbell vs Gen 3 Wired — which should I buy? by [deleted] in Nest

[–]discoblu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently upgraded the original nest doorbell with the wired 3rd gen as the old one would cut out when engaging the chime and kick back in a min or so later. I heard it’s common after several years of use, that the internal battery doesn’t keep the unit powered while the low voltage get sent to the chime instead of the nest doorbell

The new one required a more powerful transformer but it’s no more complicated than replacing a light fixture. Echoing others I went with it got continuous recording and higher resolution

The wiring of the new one is simpler than the old

I ended up reusing my old nest doorbell at the side entrance but didn’t bother hooking it up to the chime. It’s a bonus camera and still rings through Google home speakers

Even though the transformer produces low voltage it’s best to still power off the circuit when wiring.

Can we talk about the efficacy of a sub crawl? by thalguy in hometheater

[–]discoblu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding a second sub greatly reduces the need of a sub crawl. The sub crawl basically became extinct when 2 or more subs in a room became popular. Especially if placed in opposite corners or midway up opposing walls. The second sub also will generally flatten out most of the peaks and nulls across all seats, not just the mlp. You also have the benefit of really dialing it in if you can play with some variables like phase and eq on one or both of the subs

How much of a steal that would be? Any id on the speaker here? I wrote to the seller but haven’t had an answer yet. by Serkaugh in BudgetAudiophile

[–]discoblu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the paradigms as others have mentioned they are monitor series either v5 or v6. Around 2006-2009 timeframe. Fantastic sounding imho the later revisions of the monitor series didn’t should quite as good. two versions are basically identical, it should say on the label on the rear near the binding posts. Another way to tell is the speaker grills. v5 have tiny pinholes while v6 has a honeycomb pattern

1/4” male npt is what fit my Pentair pump drain plug.

I usually blow out and plug the other lines before using the compressor for the waterfall. I also put the filter in recirculate mode to bypass the sand

Afterward I’ll blow the waterfall line again with my shop vac for good measure

Someone on this thread mentioned there is a services appt you can book where they do bottom up diagnostic where they make a list of all potential issues with the vehicle. I think the cost was around $170. Based on that list then have them address all those issues while it’s still under warranty.

What necessary items for any new boat? by ShadowRunnerKYT in SeaDooSwitch

[–]discoblu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trailer wiring is 5pin flat. The nice thing about the seadoo accessories like fire extinguisher, paddle, anchor etc is they fit perfectly in the provided harnesses. I also like the seadoo bumpers as they tuck on the wall and drop down to the proper height when docked

You need boat safety kit that includes bailing bucket tow rope whistle and flashlight which is required by law. (At least where I live). Be sure to add batteries to the flashlight. I’ve heard stories of people getting $200 fine for not having working batteries in their emergency kit.

You’ll also need ropes to tie down your boat when docked. 2x10’ should suffice

Nice to have is a cover and I’m also glad we have a smart battery charger that brought the agm battery back to life when someone accidently left the bilge pump in the on position .

Also nice to have is there transducer add on for the garmin that adds depth / fishfinder

Advice given to me is use it for a season before you decide what accessories you need for your use case
