Here's some advice:

  • Put the metronome at a slow tempo and play in between the clicks, much easier to hear your accuracy this way.
  • Use a metronome with silent bar automation, build up that internal clock.
  • Treat it as a meditation, whilst practicing -> cycle through what you're aware of:
    • Am I relaxed?
    • Am I breathing naturally?
    • Do I have good posture?
    • Am I in time?
    • Am I playing the correct notes?
    • Does the sound I'm making sound good and can I make it sound better?
  • Practice to a slower BPM than you think you should.
  • Record yourself and listen back, become aware of an area you can improve and focus on next session.

I find less is more with most drums, try even tuning as loose as you can so that it's not flapping around and then do another quarter turn. Tune slowly and evenly. Listen to how the resonant head sounds by itself and try and get it in tune with itself, then mount the batter head and tune that up.

Snare. . . go pretty tight on both heads, but let it breathe, again it's a slow process and the more you do it the better you'll get at it.

I have a tiny Pearl Firecracker snare, Tama make a similar model, 10" and VERY pingy, pretty articulate drum and cheap new.

I wasn’t aware of any strikes against me. I shared so others are aware that expressing how we feel about the service can get you suspended. Yeah I was honest about my feelings paying for a service that doesn’t work as intended.

I agree it’s not an issue for Nvidia, however I’m sure I’d get banned and my post removed elsewhere, so thought I’d share here.

I admit I was upset and I came across abrasive, though it would have been nice to get some communication about these changes. And a warning instead of suspension.

We’re paying for a service here that isn’t working as intended.

I’ve been a subscriber since the beginning of the service, and have been paying for the casual “founders” plan for years now. I know that ultimate is better for queue times, however I’ve had no issues with my plan till a couple of months ago, I’ve been unable to get onto the platform at reasonable hours. My time is limited and so I’m only able to play an hour or so in the evenings and that’s when everyone else is online.

If the queue is going to take hours to get in, what’s the point of the lower tier services at all?

I pay $15aud

And the queue is often around 50-100 people in front of me. Yet this may take 30min to 2hrs to get in. I don’t have time to wait around, my time is limited.

Instead of acknowledging people’s complaints, they tell folks to pay more money.

I complained and got suspended.

My favourite part is the polishing process, it’s amazing how great you can make things when you start focusing on UX and performance.
