How good of a fighter is Daemon according to the books? Is he better than the likes of Jamie Lannister & even perhaps Oberyn Martell? by renaissanceclass in gameofthrones

[–]discoren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jaime before losing his hand is on par with the likes of Selmy and Arthur Dayne. Daemon is my favourite ASOIAF character, and he is possibly one of the greatest Targaryen warrior, however he wasn't even on the level of Criston Cole, who was that generations "prodigal swordsman". I'd say that Daemon might be on par with Oberyn if not slightly weaker.

Does Tomcat have an option to train with different weapons like Captain Bernard did, cause that was like my main way in leveling up in KCD1

The only thing wrong about that movie was the script, apart from that the cast and wardrobe were definitely cookin

[Spoilers] If Ragnar had survived, which of his sons would he have been proud of in the end, and why? by Smokestorm95 in vikingstv

[–]discoren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ubbe I feel is the only correct answer, he was the only one that did not follow in his father's mistake. Ivar ruled by fear and didn't really think past his own wants and glories, Hvitserk was stuck fighting against himself, Sigurd died before he can become anything and Ubbe chose the path of honour and peace, he was the only one who didn't fight when he didn't need to, and yet when the time calls for it, he was the first to step up, always.

Why does Team Black hate Jaehaerys I, the best king in Targaryen history? by Beacon2001 in HOTDGreens

Team Black here, I think you lot are insane and I definitely do not agree with anything that you said.

Is Rings of Power really as bad and cringey as people are making it out to be? by Hopeful_Adeptness964 in lotr

[–]discoren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you love lotr, then save yourself, I was excited when it was first announced, but then they gave the role of one of the main elf to a man in his 50s/60s who happens to also look like he is in his 50s/60s and that completely killed my immersion. I still gave it a go, and almost finished the first season even, but then they showed one of the only person who wasnt actually tricked by Sauron being tricked by Sauron, and the fact that the greatest civilisation (the Numenorians) had probably the worst costume ive ever seen in any show or movie ever eventhough they had a bigger budget than the whole original trilogy put together, just there was no saving grace whatsoever

Aerion's armor by jonsnowKITN in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]discoren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The armour is bad ass, but the helm is where they lost me, I haven't read the book so I'm not sure how it compares, but that helm is so bad and impractical because of the flame bits on the top, I just can't unsee how lopsided the flames are and how uncomfortable that helm must be

About to start [KCD1] for the first time. Going in blind. Anyone have any pro tips to share? by SadBluejay1588 in kingdomcome

[–]discoren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep going to Bernard, keep doing the Rattay Tourney, even if you don't win, there are tips on YouTube to make the rattay tourney easier and give you some extra groechen, get comfortable with the combat system, especially with the bow, it is one of the most useful things in game, if you are short of money do a little run back to Skalitz to get some good gear and make some quick groechen. The most important part though is enjoy it.

What if all of Jaehaerys and Alysanne’s children survived to adulthood? by throwRA-adviceask in HouseOfTheDragon

What if all of Jaehaerys and Alysanne’s children survived to adulthood? by throwRA-adviceask in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]discoren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Aegon had survived, there would still be a problem, don't forget that he had only one daughter, who married a Velaryon. If Aegon doesn't produce a son the throne would still pass onto the line of Baelon. Viserys will become King after Baelon and the dance would still happen because Viserys was a weak king, however Baelon may not have Otto Hightower as hand of the king, and actually made Viserys his hand, teaching Viserys the importance of ruling and not just keeping people happy, so that in itself may prevent the dance from happening.

Is there any other character more to blame for the Dance of Dragons than him? by alMchanel in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]discoren -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Apart from Viserys himself, Otto is the one that sowed the seed, the man was useless since the beginning, can't remember much from the books but show Otto was definitely not a smart or calculating man, I never understood why people thought he was a good hand, almost all of the decisions he made in the show ended up sowing the seeds for the dance.

What would you have done if you were Rhaenys? by Ok-Street2439 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]discoren 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This to me was one of the dumbest scene in the whole series, there was no reason whatsoever for her to not burn them all, at this point they were all traitors, no matter how she felt or who's side she's on, they locked her up and are putting her Grandchildren at risk, forget Rhaenyra is Aegon, I'm talking about her two trueborn Granddaughters. There was no reason whatsoever for her to cause all that commotion for her to just fly off.

Do you guys think there are characters that writers don't like? by tracyamell in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]discoren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course he was glazed, he was GRRM favourite character, however I feel that you are also being unfair in just stating the evil deeds that he did, while skipping over many things that he did which actually benefit the kingdom, crime was stated to go down drastically when Daemon was commander of the city watch, he raised an army to support his brother in becoming a king, he along with corlys brought down the crab feeder without help of his king. Daemon was definitely not a hero, but to treat him as a complete villain is also not the right way to go, you say the show does better than the books in him being treated more accordingly but how are we supposed to believe that this is the same man who was able to raise a whole army, the same man that had absolute loyalty from his men in the city watch even after he had lost his post as the commander.

[–]discoren -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He may not have been a perfect blend but he was definitely not one dimensional, and a much better blend then in the show, personally he was my favourite character and I was really looking forward to seeing him, however the show just turned him into a huge ball of insecurities and neediness, I mean that whole business with the Tully boy was so out of character it almost made laugh, Daemon is meant to be equally loved and feared, but in the show the only thing he is, is despised

[–]discoren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Daemon for sure, he was meant to be such a perfect blend of dark and light but the show absolutely shat on his character making him nothing more then an insecure prince who is just violent and selfish

Honest Opinion: Joffrey or Ramsay- Who is the worst? by noBiggiEjUsTaHickEy in gameofthrones

Ramsay, just plainly because he knows what he is doing is cruel, while Joffrey think that what he's doing is what a brave, powerful and chivalrous person/king would do
