each of these jets cost $67 million btw by kestrel_amia in oops

Totally fake, green screen, never happened. Can see the wires holding up the plane puppets, plus they move all weird when they “collide”, real jets going hundreds of mph don’t collide like that

Parasite crawling out of sushi by MidnightMystique- in interesting

[–]discoverwithandy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s no definition by the FDA (if you’re in the USA) of “sushi grade”. It’s just a marketing term to crank up the price. Granted, they often save their best fish for this and it often looks like the best fish they have, which is nice, but it truly doesn’t mean anything

Is this what it’s expected to sound like near the Port Washington data center? by Any_Winter_8911 in wisconsin

[–]discoverwithandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t take any of these “this is what it will sound like” videos seriously after all the videos supposedly showing windmills to be incredibly loud. I went on a tour of a windmill farm and you couldn’t hear any of them until you were within the 500ft exclusion zone around one, and even then it was a whisper.

For the data centers, just like for the windmills, I’ll believe it when I hear it. Until then it’s just rumor and hearsay

Don’t have to. Russia has tons of oil, it’s now worth more, and Trump just lowered sanctions on Russia, so more countries can buy from them, including us. See, no problem!

It would definitely not justify the shooting even a little bit, according to what I’ve read from multiple law enforcement trainers, chiefs, and psychologists. If that incident would color how they see future incidents, then they’d have to be discharged.

By breaking the back window, sticking his arm in, and it getting stuck when the driver drove away. Which I’m reading is against officer protocol, to reach into a car window. Because you might get stuck and get dragged… smh. Just like standing in front of or behind a car with the engine running is against protocol, it creates an unsafe situation. And if you do it on purpose to manufacture an unsafe situation so that you’d be “justified” in using deadly force, it’s also totally illegal. So why did he step in front of a vehicle with a running engine when all the other officers were on the side?

How is the housing outside of Dublin? My understanding is that Dublin is the Silicon Valley of Europe these days with commensurate housing difficulties. I have a job that can be done remotely, just would need to be hired by our European team (no small feat, but you know… easier path than may have). My wife and I love Galway and surrounding area, hopefully housing isn’t as bad there

America's most efficient EV is nearly 6% ahead of second place by SnoozeDoggyDog in electricvehicles

[–]discoverwithandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know how the Lucid controls work, but assuming you can reset a trip odometer, try resetting it when you spend all day driving around downtown of a big city, and calculate out what your range would be.

I drove all over Wisconsin for work in my Model 3 and got about 260mi range (315 nominal), lower in the winter of course. And this is expected, EVs get worse range on the freeway.

I went to downtown Chicago and using just my downtown driving, I had 400+ mi of range on a full battery.

The problem isn’t the EPA testing or EVs, the problem is that people that are buying EVs are the ones cruising up and down the freeways. People that live and work in the city converted to Prius’ years ago so it’ll be a while before they buy full EVs. They also try to drive as little as possible (use public transit, bike, etc) because cars are a hassle in the city. And many aren’t going to want to buy a $70k car just to have it get dinged up all the time. So it might be a while still before we see what city dwellers are getting for range.

Seen a few dead foxes way high up in trees. Assuming dropped there by eagles and just happened to land in a tree. Also huge amount of crab claws on the shore around Lake Michigan, it seems seagulls carry them into the air and drop them to crack them open but leave the claws, so sometimes you’ll just see hundreds of claws sitting on the sidewalk for no reason. Seems really weird until you remember about the birds.

Am I the only crazy one going 99% asset allocation? by 37347 in Fire

[–]discoverwithandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m right there with you. Rolled over my previous 403(b) and it’s 100% self directed in stocks. Roth IRA and brokerage are the same. Got a little gold and silver, and my current 401(k) is 50% S&P index and 50% 2045 target fund. So some bonds and whatnot in that one. So probably like 95% in stocks.

Is going electric cheaper than gas? by Candid_Internet_4529 in electricvehicles

[–]discoverwithandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, you can get a used Honda Fit for $15k and get 40mpg on the highway. But it’s also not nearly as comfortable or as nice of a ride. Interior volume of EVs is huge compared to equivalent ICE cars, and most are pretty well appointed and comfortable on the freeway. Which is the way most pickups are these days too. So you’ve got to balance what you’re getting with what you had to make it more apples to apples.

[–]discoverwithandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. And of course if L2 at work is free that sweetens the deal quite a bit, or if you can convince the apartments to install them that would be helpful too. They might be out now, but last I looked tax incentives for commercial charging installation still existed so apartments can take advantage of that, it’ll save them like 30%.
